Suspects involved in the murder of Alex Badeh (retd.), the immediate past chief of defence staff are set to be paraded by the Nigeria Police Force. The suspects will be paraded at the headquarters of the NPF in Abuja on Thursday, December 27.

“We have made a breakthrough in the case and we’ve arrested suspects who will be paraded on Thursday,” a source told Punch.

The former CDS was killed in the evening of December 18, 2018 while returning from his farm.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng security sources refuted reports that late Alex Badeh met with chief of staff to President Muhammadu Buhari Abba Kyari, in Aso Villa, three weeks before his death.

A top security source said from available records, there was no evidence that Badeh visited Aso Villa in the last one month.

“For visitors to Aso Villa, there must be evidence of visit as there are daily records of activities such as signing of visitor’s register.

“From our findings, there is no iota of truth in the report that the late Badeh visited Aso Villa in the last one month.

“We have checked all the security records and there is nothing to prove that the late Badeh visited Aso Villa,” the source said.

Also, while reacting to the killing of the former defence boss, Dr. Ona Ekhomu, president of the Association of Industrial Security and Safety Operators of Nigeria (AISSON), urged the directorate of Air Provost of the Nigerian Air Force to lead investigation of the murder of the former defence chief.

- The story that about 167 policemen absconded from duties on the Boko Haram frontline in Nigeria’s north east has been dismissed as a fake news

- According to the police, all the 2000 policemen deployed to the region have all reported and are on ground for combat operation

- They added that the men are in high morale and high spirit in the operation

The Nigerian Police Force(NPF) has described as fake news the story about 167 policemen absconding from duties on the Boko Haram frontline in Nigeria’s north east.

The police said all the 2000 policemen deployed to the region have all reported and are on ground for combat operation in the region, fighting alongside the Military.

Contrary to the fake news report, the men are in high morale and high spirit in the operation.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the police said:

The attention of the Nigeria Police Force has been drawn to a story by an Online media, captioned “167 POLICE OFFICERS ABSCOND FROM DEPLOYMENT AGAINST BOKO HARAM (FULL LIST)”.

2. The Force wishes to categorically state that the story is untrue, absolute falsehood and a deliberate attempt to cast aspersions on the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force in the ongoing fight against the Boko Haram insurgency.

3. The insinuation in some quarters and as reported in the story that 167 out the 2000 additional Police Officers recently deployed by the IGP absconded is not correct and should be disregarded by members of the public. These 2000 Police personnel are to complement the efforts of the Military to add new impetus to the fight against the decimated Boko Haram insurgency.

4. This story was investigated and it was found out not to be correct, there is no reason whatsoever that Police personnel deployed for the operations in the North East would abscond. The Police Mobile Force (PMF) personnel have been engaged actively in the front line along with the Military in the fight against Boko Haram terrorist group since the inception of the insurgency.

5. These 2000 Police Officers recently deployed are in addition to several thousands of Police Personnel already engaged in the fight against insurgency with the Military in the North East. The list of 167 names attached to the story is fake as the Officers mentioned are on ground in the North East.

6. The 2000 police personnel deployed are in high morale and high spirit in the operation, the Force sees the story as a deliberate attempt to promote insurgency and dapple the morale of Officers and Men of the Police and other services who on daily basis lay down their lives to protect our dear Nation, Nigeria and ensure security of all citizenry.

7. Members of the public are hereby implored to disregard the story in its entirety as a pure misinformation and hearsay.

8. It is evidently clear that the writer of the story has never visited the venue of training or witness the deployment of the Police personnel in the operation but rely ignorantly on hearsay from misguided individuals who are being used to work against national interest and security.

The Nigeria Police Force will continue to hold the media in a very high regard as a veritable partner in ensuring adequate security and success of the fight against insurgency, however, the media are implored not allow their esteemed publication be used publish falsehood capable of misinforming and misleading the public.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that following their deployment to the north east, 190 police officers have reportedly fled. This reportedly led to the police headquarters ordering for their arrest and prosecution.

Sahara Reporters claimed the officers were about to be deployed to the north east to support the military in the fight against Boko Haram insurgency.

- The former president also claimed that he is most qualified person to criticise President Buhari

As another election year draws closer, former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has on Wednesday, December 26, claimed that his support for then APC candidate Muhammdau Buhari ensured the party's victory at the 2015 presidential election.

Obasanjo insisted that Buhari would not have won the election without him.

Going further, the former president also claimed that he is most qualified person to criticise President Buhari, having presided over the affairs of the country at different times.

Obasanjo said this at this year’s 2018 Ibogun Day celebration with Ogun state Governor Ibikunle Amosun and others in attendance, Vanguard reports.

‘I know Buhari and he too knows me. Till the day I die, Buhari will continue to address me as ‘sir.’ In 2015, if I didn’t support Buhari, he wouldn’t have won the election. I have what it takes to correct him. Nigeria should not be in the position we are today. Nigeria can be better. God has given us all that we need.

“I am qualified to speak against Buhari. One, I have done it before. Two, I have shed my blood for this country. Even my biological son has shed his blood. Why can’t I speak about what is best for this country? I am doubly qualified to do that.”

Going further, he said: “I am particularly happy that the governor, Ibikunle Amosun spoke against violence. I want to tell you, if you do not stop violence among your supporters, you will have yourself to blame. There is no earthly reason we should not have a peaceful election in the state”

“I have made my choice, it may not be in tandem with yours. Let my choice be and let yours be and let God decide and whoever gets there let all of us support him.” he added.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that as the 2019 elections approaches, Nigerians have been urged by former president Olusegun Obasanjo to keep working for peace.

Indeed, the Christmas celebration which normally happens annually on December 25 has come and gone. But its memories are still with us, fresh and new. During the festive yuletide season, some extraordinary deeds were done by Nigerian celebrities.

One of the people that went all out to celebrate Christmas was Falz. The singer who had quite a good year marked the festive season in a very unique, surprising way.

He took to the streets to commemorate the yuletide period with the needy and common folks who dwell in the said location. But he did not just go empty handed.

The musician went with a lot of goodies and niceties for the people of the place he visited. These lovely presents were nicely packaged in souvenirs which Falz and his crew handed out to those on the streets.

But the singer did not just dole out the surprising packages on his own accord. The entire project was organised and done under the umbrella of Sweet Boys Association. This is very obvious judging from the T-shirt worn by Falz and the other men.

On the T-shirts, the logo of the association which Falz created during the late quarters of this year was boldly engraved. Many people were all too happy to receive the singer and collect whatever present he had for them.

The word 'doctor' is generally meant to denote a person whose primary assignment is to diagnose illnesses and prescribe suitable treatments for them. However, in today's world, there is much more to that word. Now, a doctor can simply be someone who has earned a honorary degree either by means of merit or recognition.

One of the advantages of being a celebrity either in Nigeria or elsewhere is that, alongside the fame and prestige, a lot of recognition is bound to follow. What this means is that they do not only get accreditation from fans and followers worldwide but they also get to be acknowledged by well lettered individuals.

In this regard, several Nigerian celebrities are usually recognised by academic institutions every now and then. Most of them get plaques, statuettes and certificates which bestow them with a honorary degree and confer upon them the title of a doctor.

The year 2018 was no exception. Several popular Nigerians got the opportunity to be awarded with academic degrees during the course of the year. Some of these people who have earned the rights to be called doctors come from the entertainment industry and others are simply politicians.

With this in mind, here are six popular Nigerians who had the opportunity to be awarded with academic degrees from reputable academic settings.

Don’t be misled into voting for a party that sees corruption as normal - Presidency

- Garba Shehu criticised the PDP for creating lies about President Muhammadu Buhari

- The special assistant to the president said the PDP wants to make corruption appear normal

- Shehu urged Nigerians not to be misled by the PDP’s lies

The presidency has advised Nigerians to be wary about what comes out from the opposition, especially the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), so as not to be misled into voting for a party that sees nothing wrong with corruption.

Malam Garba Shehu, the senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, gave the advice when he reacted to allegations levelled against the Buhari administration by the PDP.

Shehu, in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday, December 26, said the PDP would rather have “everyone drenched in its colours, as they irretrievably are.’’

According to him, the PDP has continued spreading lies about the Buhari administration in the mistaken assumption that its toga of corruption will dissipate if it succeeded in black painting every other person as corrupt.

He said: “The strategy is to make corruption appear as normative and that everyone is equally involved. They think by so doing, Nigerians will forgive them for their sins. This is a huge mistake.

“The PDP has become an ill-wind on the country today and the elections next year present the citizens an excellent opportunity to save the country from it.

“We can’t imagine a sane organisation shamelessly telling Nigerians that President Buhari is looting, as they themselves did of the recovered loot, the $322 million lately recovered from the Abacha family. This is an irresponsible lie.’’

The media aide explained that the $322 million recovered was being used to make the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) of a monthly amount of N5,000 to more than 300,000 poor homes across the nation under the Social Investment Programme introduced by the Buhari administration.

He added that this was in line with the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed between the governments of Nigeria and Switzerland as a condition for releasing the funds.

According to Shehu, as part of the MoU, the World Bank is monitoring the application of the funds, noting that the Bank has equally given an additional facility to support the on-going cash transfers.

Nigerians are hereby advised to be watchful of what comes out from the opposition, not to be misled into voting for a party that sees nothing wrong with corruption and would rather have everyone drenched in its colours, as they irretrievably are,’’ he said.

Meanwhile, President Buhari has vowed to retrieved all stolen fund. The president said that though that some critics refer to hm as 'baba go slow' in the manner he fights corruption, he lamented that the slow judicial system has hampered the fight against the scourge.

President Buhari owns shares in banks - Atiku raises allegation

- Atiku Abubakar called on relevant agencies to probe President Buhari

- The former vice president claimed the president and his relatives own shares in some banks

- The PDP presidential aspirant accused the APC of using government fund for campaign

Atiku Abubakar who is the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has raised allegation that President Muhammadu Buhari and his relatives own billion dollar shares in a Nigerian bank as well as a telecommunication company.

The Cable reports that this was contained in a statement issued by Phrank Shaibu, one of his aides on Wednesday, December 26.

Atiku said the call was necessary in view of reports that members of the president’s family own substantial share in Etisalat Nigeria, estimated at $2 billion.

READ ALSO: Why I am most qualified to criticise Buhari - Obasanjo

The statement read: "Atiku also expressed shock at reports from unimpeachable sources that the first family now plays big in the nation’s financial sector after acquiring mouthwatering shares in Keystone Bank with total assets of $1.916 billion (equivalent to N307.5 billion) as well as purchasing about ₦3 billion worth of shares in the new Pakistani Islamic Bank.

“I know that last week was turbulent for President Buhari and I apologise for adding to his woes, but as he is insistent on the myth that he is spotless and anti-corrupt, if this is found to be true, this scandal would break every rule of corporate and public governance, since this will be the first time members of the first family will be openly involved in a once-in-a-lifetime deal that would make them all richer beyond their wildest dreams.”

Atiku also criticised the Anchor Borrowers Programme of the All Progressives Congress (APC) government for farmers. He claimed the president was using state resources and machinery for the 2019 presidential poll.

“The other day, a man who scored 15,424,921 votes to win the 2015 general election was reported to have been nominated by 14 million APC members at the Presidential primaries for 2019.

“Now, over 12 million farmers have donated to his campaign. Are they indirectly spewing out outrageous figures of people they intend to claim voted for them in the coming elections? Could that be why the President was flashing an occult double four hand signal that has gone viral? What did the hand signal mean? Does it mean that the President has jettisoned the idea of a free and fair election and telling Nigerians that no matter how they vote, he will return for a second term of four years?

“In any case , if the farmers who just took a loan through the borrowers anchor programme and have not liquidated the facility can donate this huge sum or any sum for that matter, it means the ‘Association of widows and children of all those slain by Boko Haram and herdsmen will donate N5billion to the Buhari campaign. In fact, the 23.1 million youth who lost their jobs between 2016 till date will donate about N12billion to the Buhari campaign.

“Assuming but not even conceding that such a huge sum of money was donated to President Buhari by Nigerian farmers as his handlers would want Nigerians to believe, wouldn’t such donation be in contravention of Section 91 (9)of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended) which says no individual or other entity shall donate more than N1m to an aspirant or a candidate.

"We have no stand on whether or not President Buhari should run for office. That is his prerogative and that of his party. But we believe it is improper for public office holders to forcefully loot public funds, on behalf of a sitting president seeking a second term in office. What this means is that there is a ‘war chest’ which apparently is from the national coffers.”

Meanwhile, the presidency has advised Nigerians to be wary about what comes out from the opposition, especially the Peoples Democratic Party, so as not to be misled into voting for a party that sees nothing wrong with corruption.

Malam Garba Shehu, the senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity gave the advice when he reacted to allegations levelled against the Buhari administration by the PDP.

Leave Buhari’s family out of 2019 campaign issue - Presidency warns PDP

$

- The presidency called on the PDP to leave family issues out of 2019 discoure

- Garba Shehu warned that if this is not adhered to, the APC will retaliate appropriately

- The presidency said the PDP's campaign against the Buhari is a failure

The Presidency on Wednesday in Abuja advised the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against making President Muhammadu Buhari’s family an issue in the forthcoming 2019 general elections.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, who gave the advice in an interaction with State House correspondents, said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would gladly accept the challenge if the PDP failed to adhere to the advice.

READ ALSO: Why I am most qualified to criticise Buhari - Obasanjo

While reacting to various comments by several organs of the opposition party on remarks made by the President on views publicly expressed by his wife, Mrs Aisha Muhammadu Buhari in an interview, the presidential spokesman said questions raised of the President by the PDP in regard to his wife only amounted to an own goal.

“If the opposition Peoples Democratic Party wants to make family the issue in the coming elections, the APC would gladly accept the challenge.

“Let this be the subject for 2019 election,’’ he said.

He added that the PDP leadership could not “afford to make family an issue in this campaign. Need I say more?

“The only thing I want to add is that PDP is engaging in mud-slinging because it finds it easier than speaking on their despicable 16-year record in the course of which they abused the trust of Nigerians.

“They made a mess of everything including the economy, security and infrastructure. It has come to the destiny of President Muhammadu Buhari to correct their mistakes.

“The PDP doesn’t see anything beyond grabbing power, power at all costs. As an opposition party, they have failed.’’

The Presidential aide further stated that the PDP had remained disconnected with the masses in the country.

According to him, it is an irony that a party that boasted as being the largest in Africa is now begging small parties for alliances, saying that even if they get all those `paper parties’ behind them, they will still fail.

Shehu opined that a Presidential contest was more than the issuance of daily press releases containing falsehoods.

“They have launched a campaign for the Presidency, a campaign that has failed to get any traction.

“PDP members are themselves admitting that the campaign hadn’t made a good start, that attendance at rallies had unarguably been thin. The whole thing is not working; that President Buhari is unstoppable,’’ he said.

He continued, “rather than a so-called cabal, an imaginary creation attached to all past governments of the country, President Buhari is remote-controlled by the 200 million-plus Nigerian people whose interest is uppermost in everything he says and does.

“The PDP doesn’t have the strength and support to fight President Buhari. They don’t have the records in security, economy and the war against corruption to mount any meaningful challenge.

“They have no records of accomplishments in infrastructure. In the 16 years they held sway, they have nothing to show for the colossal oil revenues earned, including 16 billion dollars doled upfront from the Central Bank for power, without a single megawatt to show for all that money.

“That is why they are dragging the President’s wife into their politics.”

Wife of the President Aisha Buhari had on Dec. 4 revealed that two men in the Buhari administration had hijacked the Buhari administration.

Aisha, who spoke at a leadership conference tagged; `Project 4 + 4’ in Abuja, challenged Nigerians to fight the “two or three people who have dominated this government.”

But, President Buhari challenged all those making allegations about a cabal pulling the strings in his government to unveil the cabal and prove their allegation.

Buhari threw the challenge in a yet-to-be aired interview with the Hausa Service of the Voice of America.

In a short teaser of the interview released on social media on Monday, Buhari was asked to clear the several allegations by his wife, Aisha and others that he was not in control of the government.

“That’s her business,” the president retorted, in the report.

He added that, “I am a true democrat by allowing everybody to have an opinion.’’

However, the People Democratic Party advised the President not run away from the allegation levelled against him by his wife.

Atiku cannot stand shoulder-to-shoulder with President Buhari in matters of integrity - Festus Keyamo

$

- Festus Keyamo called on Atiku not to compare himself to President Buhari

- The director of the Buhari Campaign Organisation said Atiku benefitted from Nigeria’s failed system

- Keyamo dismissed the former vice president’s corruption allegation against Buhari

Festus Keyamo, the Director of Strategic Communications, President Muhammadu Buhari Campaign Organisation(PMBCO) says Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s latest adventure seeking to stand shoulder-to-shoulder in matters of integrity with President Muhammadu Buhari is a political suicide mission.

Keyamo stated this while reacting to a statement credited to Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, disputing the assertion by President Muhammadu Buhari that “the system in Nigeria allows corruption to thrive because the system is slow in tackling corruption’’.

READ ALSO: Why I am most qualified to criticise Buhari - Obasanjo

He said the handlers of the PDP presidential candidate would have tried to steer him away from embarking on political suicide mission, “but alas! They have decided to test the waters.

According to Keyamo, locally and internationally President Buhari stands several miles away from Atiku Abubakar in matters of integrity.

He said: “When the President used all his life in public office building a reputation and a name, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar used all his life in public office to build mansions and acquire personal wealth.

“Now Judgment Day has come when the credentials needed by the Nigerian people for the highest office are not the buildings and wealth but the simple quality of integrity.

“Alhaji Atiku Abubakar cannot eat his cake and have it.’’

Keyamo described Atiku Abubakar as one of the greatest beneficiaries of the failed system in tackling corruption that was in place before President Buhari took over in 2015.

“We know he is aware of this, hence his latest diatribe against President Muhammadu Buhari amounts to nothing but disgusting grandstanding and an attempt to mock the system.

“If the system in Nigeria was indeed working, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar would not have acquired substantial shares in INTELS in clear conflict of his duties as a Customs Officer whilst in office. Those shares would have belonged to the Nigerian people by now.

“If the system in Nigeria was indeed working, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar would not have run a monopolistic company called INTELS all these years, ripping off the Nigerian people and the Nigerian State before Muhammadu Buhari came and broke that monopoly.

“If the system was working, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar would have been prosecuted and jailed for various acts of corruption and abuse of office after he left office as Vice President, some of which are:

“(a) For himself and his boss, President Olusegun Obasanjo, granting themselves licenses to build universities as President and Vice President whilst in office in clear breach of the Code of Conduct for Public Officers. Those Universities would have been probed, seized and transferred to the Nigeria State and the Nigerian people by now.

“(b) Laundering slush funds to the United States of America using phony companies, part of which was used to fund his present American University in Adamawa State through which he is also extorting Nigerians through exorbitant fees.

“It is public knowledge that this indictment is contained in a US Congressional Report that has led to the prosecution and conviction of his accomplices in the US, which are William Jefferson and Siemens.

“They were convicted under a system that works, whilst he has been walking free in Nigeria and even aspiring to the highest office in the land. It is also public knowledge that his ban from entering the United States was as a result of these indictments.

“(c) His indictment and recommendation for prosecution by the Report of the EFCC over the PTDF scandal whilst he was Vice President,’’ he said.

Keyamo also underscored the case filed against Atiku Abubakar by some public spirited Nigerians alleging that Abubakar never paid his Personal Income Taxes as at when due, yet he wanted to ‘get Nigeria working again’.

Keyamo therefore challenged him to publicly display his Personal Income Tax receipts for the three years preceding 2018 to show that he did not just run to FIRS in 2018 to pay his backlog of Personal Income Taxes.

“For the information of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, President Muhammadu Buhari’s gallant efforts in tackling corruption headlong has led to the conviction of the President’s own party men and ex-Governors who served under PDP and for acts they committed whilst in PDP,’’ he said.

He added that 703 persons and institutions had been convicted by the EFCC under the watch of President Buhari since 2015.

According to him, the biggest recoveries of stolen public funds in the history of Nigeria are being carried out by President Muhammadu Buhari.

He stated that these recoveries were made from principally Abubakar’s party men who now wish to lead Nigeria with him.

He also listed some of these recoveries/seizures/forfeitures (interim and final).

They include 407 mansions since 2015; N794 billion, over 261 million dollars, 1.1 million Pounds Sterling, 8.1 Million Euros, 259 Automobiles and a fully functional hospital, St. Solomon Health Care Centre at 24, Adeniyi Jones Street, Ikeja Lagos.

He also urged the PDP to stop making wild, unsubstantiated allegations of corruption without a modicum of proof.

“We have no time to respond to any allegation by the PDP without the backing of some kind of document or proof.

“When we see some scintilla of proof, we shall respond appropriately. And that is how we have treated the recent allegation of acquisition of shares in Etisalat and Keystone Bank by some supposed ‘family members’ of the President.

“No name was mentioned and no document was shown,’’ he said.

Meanwhile, President Buhari has vowed to retrieved all stolen fund. The president said that though that some critics refer to hm as 'baba go slow' in the manner he fights corruption, he lamented that the slow judicial system has hampered the fight against the scourge.

Free Christmas transport: Beneficiaries thank Governor Ugwuanyi

Indigenes of Enugu state who benefited from Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s free transportation to return to the state for the festive season have poured encomium on the governor for his magnanimity and commitment to the wellbeing of the people of the state.

The returnees who thanked Gov. Ugwuanyi for making it possible for them to be home to celebrate Christmas and the New Year with their loved ones, recalled that the governor extended the same gesture to them last year.

The visibly excited indigenes, after they were formally received by the Managing Director of Enugu State Transport Company Limited (ENTRACO), Mr. Bob Itanyi and his team, stated that they had a smooth journey and appreciated God for the safe trip.

The beneficiaries asked God to bless the governor and also prayed for his resounding victory at the forthcoming general election in 2019, declaring their support for his re-election bid.

Speaking, Mrs. Ngozika Mmadu who returned from Benue State said: “We thank God for this magnanimity from our Governor, for remembering us by giving us free transport. May God bless him. It shows he has us in mind. I was not prepared to come back before but immediately I heard that our Governor has given us free transport, I decided to come home.

“What I have to tell Enugu people is that as 2019 approaches, that they should please re-elect him, so that he will continue to lead us because his administration has been very favourable to us. He will win by the grace of God."

Another beneficiary, Reverend Godwin Ude who returned from Taraba State added that “we did not pay for the transport fare at all. Governor of Enugu State provided it and urged anyone willing to come back to go and join the motor and when we entered the motor no fare was taken from us.

“Since the governor has the heart to do this for us, we pray that God will grant him the opportunity to continue and we pray that God will also grant him more wisdom”.

According to Daniel Okoli, a returnee from Lagos, “we are happy and we are praying that next term he will do better than this. We are going to support him which we have been doing. It is certain that 2019, he will win based on what we can see and what he has been doing”.

Expressing her gratitude, Paschaline Onyema who returned from Kano state said: “I feel so happy. I appreciate him (Ugwuanyi). I wish him more years in government. I pray that this coming election he will still come back to continue with the good work he is doing.

“I am always happy because my brother is a beneficiary of the governor’s scholarship programme. This has been a great help to me and the entire family. We appreciate.”

Many others who spoke equally commended the governor’s gesture and declared their support for his re-election in 2019.
