In the years of her husband Sani Abacha’s ruling, Maryam Abacha, which is the name of the General’s wife, has been very popular. This woman was born on March 4th, 1945. Her birthplace was Kaduna State, and her mother’s name was Nana Jiddah. Nowadays, she is 73 years old. She has two residences: one is in Maidiguri, Borno State, in her native Nigeria, while the other one is in the United States.

Unlike many other Nigerian first ladies who were usually in the shadows and did not appear publicly too often, Maryam Abacha was always a very active participant of the public affairs. She was present at many international conferences and events, either together with her husband or by herself. Maryam Abacha’s nickname was “The Crusading First Lady”, because of her many travels and meetings. She was the chairwoman of the First Ladies Summit, which took place in 1997 and featured a lot of first ladies. They also went on a peace mission project together, which was led by Maryam Abacha herself. Among her other initiatives, there were multiple programs related to education, family support, poverty, immunization, and economic advancement. She always attempted to help other people, especially the fellow women and those who lived in poverty.

Maryam Abacha was also the founder of the National Hospital Abuja, the original name of which was the National Hospital for Women and Children. She also contributed to the building of the other hospitals all over the country. When she commented on these projects, she said that she never did anything to benefit personally, and everything she has ever done was for the good of the country. However, she is no longer a part of the government since her husband passed away, so she is not actively involved in these projects anymore. As the first lady, her ambitions were mostly bringing the development to all the areas but mostly helping out those women who make a part of the rural population. The rural areas were always a large focus of Maryam Abacha and her team’s initiatives because people from the remote areas of the country also needed social guarantees.

Maryam Abacha and her husband have met during the regular circumstances, just like any other couple. She instantly liked him because of his charming personality and handsome appearance. They quickly became friends, which later evolved into something more. Maryam described Sani Abacha as an affectionate and loving husband, and a very caring father and grandfather. However, she expressed her gratitude to all the people who have supported her and her family in these hard times and the hope that those who have estranged will come back. In general, since Sani Abacha passed away, their family has become even closer, relying on each other in these difficult times.

Speaking of the controversial decision of Goodluck Jonathan to grant Sani Abacha the centenary award, which Maryam has received personally, she said that it made her feel happy, and she is hoping that Nigeria will reconcile soon. She believes that all the Nigerians need to sort out their differences and put their energy into stabilizing the country. Still, she said that she does not want to run for the president, as she only wants stability, peace, and development for the country. She firmly believes that the President alone would not be able to create a government.

Whenever Maryam Abacha comments on her husband’s actions and their influence on Nigeria, she is convinced that General Sani Abacha has done everything for the greater good of the country. She considers all his political affairs to be something he put a lot of effort into and tried his very best.

Sani Abacha's children

Maryam Abacha has been the love of General’s life, and together, they had ten children. The couple was blessed by seven sons and three daughters. Their names are Ibrahim, Mohammed, Abba Sani, Mahmud Sani, Sadiq, Zainab, Fatima Gumsu Sani, Rakiya, Abdullahi, and Mustapha. As many of them are now married and have their own children, the late General Abacha had a lot of grandchildren – precisely, fifteen of them. It is known that there are seven boys and eight girls among his grandkids.

Probably the most known child of Sani and Maryam Abacha is Mohammed Abacha, who is also their eldest surviving son. It is difficult to say that he is known for good things, however. He has been connected with his father’s money laundering scandals, and reportedly participating in them first-hand. During the military rule of Sani Abacha, Mohammed was his helper and together with his father, he was involved in money looting.

Mohammed Abacha was also arrested with the attempt of murder. He was accused of murdering two people. However, later after the process, he was released. The Abacha family also agreed with the government that they will return back all the embezzled money that Sani Abacha and his son have stolen. Mohammed Abacha also had to undergo the trial connected with his father’s financial crimes, though he later also was released.

As for the personal life of Mohammed Abacha, he used to be married to the woman named Munirat Fatima and had five children with her. With his second wife, Samira Adi, he has one child.

Another popular child of the late General Sani Abacha is Gumsu. She is very active on social media and often posts various family photos, indicating that their family is very friendly.

She lives in France and is very rich, and it is assumed that other Abacha children also have residences all over the world.

All the existing countries have close relations with each other. We have mutual trade, political relations, some countries share same territory and so on. As all the countries become reachable, your knowledge in this sphere can make you feel better and show yourself as educated person just in case you meet something out of your own “zone”.

The musician who had earlier not responded to the supposed word of wisdom meted to him was full of fury after he successfully scaled through.

Shatta Wale had earlier in the year received a prophesy by many 'men of God' that he was bound to die within this year if he did not change his ways.

Many of these prophecies have been flamed by social media as many people could not help but wonder if any of the prophets' utterances were going to come true.

The controversial musician, in turn, had fought off these doom prophecies with threats of burning down some churches if the prophecy failed to come to pass.

More recently, Prophet Stephen Adom, the same person who has one of Ghana's popular female celebrity came out to warn Shatta Wale to be careful or he would die on December 24, 2018.

Buba Galadima who is a spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of encouraging corruption in his administration claiming his relatives are now wealthier.

Speaking on Sunrise Daily on Channels Television on Wednesday, December 26, Galadima alleged that some individuals close to Buhari, who were poor in 2015 when the President assumed office have now become billionaires.

Galadima made this claim during a debate with an All Progressives Congress member, Senator Ayo Arise, who had faulted the amendment process of the Electoral Act.

Arise had said: “If the President says, ‘I will allow a free and fair election, there is the propensity for people to trust him more than the other candidate in this country that is currently running because he has demonstrated it times without number that he has integrity.

“For me, that is what I see in the President and that is why I am one of the strongest supporters and believers in him.”

Galadima however countered the claim that the president had integrity accusing him of allowing some of his relatives to profit from his position.

He said: “I can’t see any integrity whatsoever on the side of Mr President. Which integrity? Somebody who condones corrupt people around him. We know of his relatives. We know of his friends who were bankrupt before 2015.

“We know of his relatives who took N2,000 transport money from us to go to Kaduna. Today, they are multibillionaires. They have assets all over the world. They have estates all over the world. I can show anybody that wants to know. So, the issue of integrity with this government is not an issue.

“Go to Daura GRA. When you go there, all the houses that make you feel as if you are in Dubai, London or Beirut were built by whom? To whom do those properties belong?

“So, please, I don’t want any All Progressives Congress man to talk to me about integrity. This should be the last time anybody engaging me in a debate would talk about integrity; I will take them to the marketplace.”

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, has charged Nigerian Air Force (NAF) front-line troops to remain focused while maintaining the highest level of vigilance and combat readiness to guarantee the security of Nigeria and Nigerians.

The CAS gave the charge on Tuesday, December 25, 2018, while hosting troops of the Air Task Force (ATF) Operation Lafiya Dole to a Christmas Day Luncheon in Maiduguri.

The luncheon, which has become a tradition in the NAF, is held during major festivities to appreciate the troops and alleviate the pains of their inability to celebrate with their families.

According to the CAS, such get-togethers also help to foster comradeship while providing an avenue to commend the efforts of all those involved in the fight against insurgency.

Speaking further, the CAS, who was represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans (COPP) NAF Headquarters, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Mohammad Muhammad, expressed delight to be in Maiduguri to celebrate with the troops.

He reminded them of the need to sustain their efforts in order to ensure lasting peace and stability in the Northeast and other parts of Nigeria. According to him, "we all are aware that so much is at stake for us in this war against insurgency.

As such, we cannot allow ourselves to be taken unawares. While thanking God for his mercies and keeping us alive to see this celebration, I appreciate all your efforts and that of our families for their unending support", he added.

The CAS also seized the opportunity to thank the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari, for providing the resources that enabled the NAF to effectively perform its constitutional roles.

He pledged the determination of the troops to reciprocate by remaining disciplined and exhibiting the highest level of professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

Earlier in his welcome address, the ATF Commander, AVM James Gwani, expressed the gratitude of officers and men of the ATF to the CAS for his commitment to the morale and welfare of the personnel as well as for providing the necessary facilities and enabling environment that ensured effective and efficient mission accomplishment all through the year.

Apart from the officers and airmen/airwomen and civilian staff of the ATF, the Bulama and some other members of the host community of Gomari were also present at the Luncheon. A similar event is scheduled to hold in Yola on Boxing Day.

In a statement, Col. Onyema Nwachukwu, the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, said the insurgents had on Monday, December 24, at about 6: 30 pm, attacked a Military Forward Operational Base, in Kukareta community of Yobe.

Nwachukwu said that the gallant troops engaged the insurgents in fierce battle and repelled the attack, killing many of them, adding that a soldier was wounded in the attack.

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETfund) has predicted Nigeria would become the 14th best economy in the world by 2050.

The executive secretary of the fund, Dr Abdullahi Baffa-Bichi said this during an interactive session with members of the Buhari Support Political Group, “One 2 Tell 10’’, on Wednesday in Kano.

According to him, indices of growth and development are manifesting following the sound and excellent economic policy introduced by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

He noted that a report released by an established global economic expert, PWC, had also predicted that Nigeria would be the 14th biggest economy in the world in 2050.

Baffa-Bichi disclosed that the report, titled `The World in 2050’, which was released recently, attributed this to the current economic revolution introduced by the Buhari administration.

He said the Nigeria’s economy is now on a sound footing as evident by the stability in the business and investment environment.

The TETfund boss commended Buhari for his good economic policies and initiatives which were responsible for the country to get out of recession within just two years.

According to him, this feat was certified by the major financial players in the world such as IMF and World Bank.

“If not for the prudent management of resources instilled by the administration, Nigeria would have been in a serious economic crisis,” he said.

According to Baffa-Bichi, who is the Director-General of the “One 2 Tell 10’’ movement, explained that getting out of recession was by no means a great achievement.

He expressed optimism that Nigerians would soon be among the best economies in the world if these policies are sustained.

He therefore said such achievement alone should make Nigerian electorate to renew their mandate to the government.

Baffa-Bichi further commended the group for their steadfastness and commitment towards ensuring the success of the APC administration.

He urged them to redouble efforts in their campaign for the re-election of Buhari and the APC at all levels in the 2019 general elections.

“Nigerians are now wiser and they have seen the good works of President Buhari, giving him another chance in 2019 will certainly go a long way to further secure our country and launch her among the comity of advanced nations.

“On assumption of office, Buhari had three major programmes which are ensuring security, fighting corruption and economic recovery.

“We are all living witnesses today that our country is enjoying peace with the taming of the activities of insurgents and pipeline vandals.

“While efforts are on top gear to quenching the activities of bandits in other parts of the country. Economically, Nigeria is now on a sound footing while corruption has been reduced to the barest minimum.”

He pointed out that agricultural activities have been growing, following the availability of farm inputs at affordable prices; unlike in the past where fertiliser and other incentives were out of reach.

The chairman of the “One 2 Tell 10’’ Buhari support group, Mr Yuguda Abdulazeez, had earlier assured that the group was all out to ensure the success of Buhari and all APC candidates in the 2019 elections.

Confirming the Development, Commander of the Livestock Guards, Linus Zaki, disclosed that one herder named Kunje Saija was also arrested in the course of the operation.

He explained that in accordance with the Benue State Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law, the impounded cows will be quarantined for seven days before being auctioned, if the owners fail to pay the fines stipulated by the law.

He cautioned herdsmen against the consequences of flouting the law, stressing the need for ranching of all forms of livestock in the state.

The governor had also emphasised that anyone who vilolates the law will be prosecuted.
