- The state government said Governor Ortom did not set the DSS after Suswam

- It said, contrary to reports, it never petitioned the secret police to go after his predecessor

- However, it confirmed that a petition was made to the DSS but said it was about killer herdsmen attacks on Benue committee

The Benue State Government has denied that Governor Samuel Ortom has anything to do with the arrest of Gabriel Suswam, an ex-governor, by the Department of State Services.

Ortom’s chief press secretary Terver Akase said in a statement sent to NAIJ.com that claims the arrest followed a petition by the state governor were not true.

The statement read in part: “We wish to categorically state that Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom did not write a petition which led to the arrest of former Governor of the State, Gabriel Suswam, contrary to some media reports.

"Such reports are false, misleading and mischievous."

The statement follows claims by an aide to Suswam that he was arrested after a petition by Governor Ortom.

The government however confirmed writing a petition to the DSS against the leaders of Miyetti Allah as a result of the killings by suspected herdsmen in the state.

“The Benue State Government has written a petition against leaders of Miyetti Allah Kautal H*re and has filed a lawsuit against the group. The State Government has evidence to prove that the socio-cultural organisation is responsible for recent attacks and killing of innocent people in the state,” the government said.

“The Ortom administration will not be distracted from its commitment to get justice for victims of mindless attacks on the state.”

NAIJ.com had reported that former governor of Benue Gabriel Suswam, was arrested by DSS over an alleged connection with the killings in the state.

Suswam was arrested after the incumbent Governor Samuel Ortom, allegedly petitioned the DSS over the security situation in the state.

The DSS had arrested the former governor in 2017, after it said it uncovered a large cache of arms and ammunition from a property allegedly belonging to him at number 44, Aguiyi Ironsi Way, Maitama-Abuja.

Popular tourist attraction in the city of Abeokuta known as Olumo Rock is a world class destination that stands as the only one of its kind in Africa and presumably the world.

The centre consists of a fast food joint, museum, and a giant telescope to view Abeokuta, a fountain of atonement, a recreational park, and an amphitheater among others.

According to history, Olumo Rock served as a shelter and fortress to the Egba people during the Yoruba Intercity wars in the 19th century.

The rock served as a shelter for many of the survivors, who were said to have hidden in specific areas inside the caves located inside the rocks to evade attacks from enemies.

Some of these people eventually built small apartments inside the rocks and created places where they carried out their daily activities for about three years without getting into town.

It was not until after the war that most of these people started coming out of their hiding to see the other people who survived the brutality of that period.

Since then, they regard the Olumo Rock as their protection shrine and they make annual sacrifices to its deity. People from all walks of life still go there for divine consultations.

Recall that about 2 years ago, NAIJ.com spoke to a 131-year-old woman, who has lived under the famous Olumo Rock almost all her life.

Chief Mrs Sinatu Aduke Sanni explained how she grew up under the rock and witnessed the coronation of about four Alake of Egbaland as well as her strong belief in the god of the rock which has been protecting her.

"I have been here almost all my life and although it was not easy at first, there was nothing we could do other than stay here until the end of the war," Iya Orisa said.

"We were not scared of any dangerous animal attacking us at the time, despite the fact that we were surrounded by bushes then.

"The god of this mountain has kept protecting us over the years and we get everything we want from the rock. Anything you want in life, just ask.

"The rock is the protector of every Egba indigene till date and we are proud of what we have," she explained further.

He said: “The APC faction under the state chairman, Alhaji Surajo Garba Mai Katako Gusau. We were elected in the parallel APC state congresses of 5th, 12th and 19th May 2018 in Zamfara state.

“We are here in Abuja to express our happiness, support and solidarity with our party over the national convention holding today to produce new national leaders for us.

“So, we are in Abuja to witness this convention as Zamfara state national convention delegates and supporters of Senator Kabir Garba Marafa, CON, for governor of Zamfara state in 2019 and also supporters of President Muhammed Buhari for second term in 2019.

“We are here with all our delegates and over one thousand supporters but we have been denied entry into the Eagle Square. So, we hereby appeal to our new national party leaders to be fair and recognize our faction as the legitimate APC leadership in Zamfare state.

“Our faction fulfilled all the requirements or contesting party positions. While the Abdullaziz Yari faction didn’t fulfil the requirements. The Governor Yari faction didn’t pay for the forms for contesting elections to party positions but our own faction fulfilled all the conditions including the payment for all the nomination forms.

“As you can see we are the majority but the security operatives stopped us from entering into the venue of the convention. Right now we don't know where our chairman is. We will take appropriate action to seek redress. We are duly and legitimate elected executives of APC in Zamfara state. They stopped us because some of our supporters were wearing T- shirts with the photograph of our leader, Senator Kabir Garba Marafa.”

Insecurity: APC governor accuses minister of inefficiency

$

- Governor Yari says Dambazzau's condemnation of his decision to quit his CSO position in Zamfara was unbecoming of a minister

- He says the security challenges facing his people were because of the minister's inefficiency

- He also demands a public apology from Dambazzu who he accuses of trying to incite Zamfara people against him

Zamfara governor Abdulaziz Yari has lashed out at interior minister Abdulrahman Dambazau for condemning his resignation as the chief security officer of his state.

According to Governor Yari, Dambazzau has no moral justification to comment on good governance because the security challenges have lingered due to the minister's inefficiency.

The Cable reports that Yari, who defended his decision to quit as Zamfara CSO, issued his condemnation of the minister in a statement on Friday, June 22.

READ ALSO: APC convention: Protests as security prevents delegates from Zamfara state entry

The statement read: “Gov Yari wonders how a minister of the Federal Republic could expose himself in making such a public statement.

“Is the minister’s refusal to visit Zamfara as minister of interior who is in charge of internal security, to assess the situation there, listen to and address the complaints by the junior security personnel, sympathize with the people of Zamfara state and offer professional advice that is good governance?

“Is the minister’s inability to control the infiltration or influx of foreign agents with evil intentions into the country, paving ways for criminality, that is good governance? Or is it keeping soldiers with him cleaning his shoes instead of sending them to the front line that is good governance?

“It is totally misleading and insulting to the intelligence of Nigerians to blame a state governor for the failure of security when he has no power and control over the deployment of troops to fight the bandits and protect lives,” he said.

“Most of the bandits and terrorists in Nigeria are foreign nationals, how do they find themselves in the country if the ministry of interior under Dambazau’s watch is carrying out its responsibilities efficiently and effectively?

“Is it not shameful on the part of the minister that internal security of this country under his watch become worrisome more than ever before? We are utterly surprised that the minister of interior should be blaming the victims of insecurity instead of making a case for Zamfara state for prompt and decisive action to defeat the armed bandits committing atrocities in the state.

“We should also like to ask the minister why he didn’t blame poor governance for terrorists attacks in other northern states or why he thinks state governors should be blamed when they have no power to order troops deployment.”

Governor Yari also demanded a public apology from Dambazzau.

He accused the minister of blackmailing the Zamfara state government and inciting the people against him, the chief executive officer of the state.

Meanwhile, chairman of Senate joint committees on petroleum resources Senator Kabir Marafa has said that the Federal Government has vindicated him on the failure of Governor Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara to stop banditry in the state.

The government had through the minister of interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, during a panel session at the opening of the 67th International Press Institute Congress on Thursday, June 21, blamed the governor for the festering banditry in the state.

Marafa, an All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker, in a statement sent to NAIJ.com, said his numerous calls on the governor at different fora including on the floor of he Senate fell on deaf ears.

Sadly, with both player and manager in no good terms, it is looking likely that the Portuguese boss will have his way, but time will definitely tell.

According to Spain’s sports news outlet, Diario Gol suggest the former Real Madrid boss, who is currently in Russia as a pundit, has concluded plans to offload the box-to-box midfielder this summer.

The report noted that it is no longer a hidden affair that both player and manager are not in good working terms and hardly see each other since 2018

The highly-experienced football manager was unhappy with the Les Bleus midfielder after the Red Devils were nailed 2-0 by Tottenham in February.

Subsequently, the French star stopped enjoying first eleven action in the next two Uefa champions League fixtures against Sevilla.

The Diario Gol report noted that the Portuguese boss insists that Pogba is not good enough for the Old Trafford dwellers going forward.

The report added that Mourinho has already advised the midfielder to start looking for new suitors ahead of the new campaign as he will be in his plans for the coming campaign.

La Liga champions, Barcelona are reportedly considering signing the French international but that are unaware how much eggheads at Old Trafford will be looking at.

In the main time, ex-Manchester United defence ace, Patrice Evra has advised compatriot, Pogba to pay more attention to his game rather than exchange banters with his club boss.

“I was begging him to stay when he left for United,” Evra was quoted as saying on ITV.

“The problem with Paul is that his image is becoming bigger than his football. He’s got everything, he just needs to be more consistent.

“He doesn’t have any special haircut today so the focus can be on his football.”

“He’s a really shy guy, people think he’s arrogant, he’s really humble, he wants to be the best.

“When he has a good connection with his manager [Mourinho], he will go to his best.”

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously had reported that the Manchester United boss has revealed teams that are likely to progress to the round of 16.

Mourinho did not failed to look in the direction of the five teams that will be representing Africa at Russia 2018 as the Portuguese attempted to predict the winners and runners-up of all eight groups according to the UK Mirror report.
