“If the ownership of the club really do want a higher quality of football then they’re going to have to live through the change.

“Now’s not the time to go weak on that. Now we’ll see in the next 24 to 48 hours whether Chelsea have the belief that they do want to follow through with it.

“In the past I agree, they’ve changed [Andre] Villas-Boas, they’ve changed [Luiz Felipe] Scolari. Are they going to stick with Sarri?

“If they really want this type of football in the long term they’re going to have to maintain a position of the club and live through the pain and change,'' the eight-time Premier League winner explained according to Sky Sports.

“Some people put the law in their hands; property lost and some destroyed and there was total mayhem which cannot be tolerated.”

The commissioner said that investigation was ongoing to ensure that whoever was responsible for the mayhem would face the law, adding that “no one is above the law.

“Nobody should use the children of the poor for political thuggery while their children are not among those carrying weapons.

“Enough is enough; a new sheriff is in town. I assure the good citizens of Kano state that the Nigeria Police Force and its management do not belong to any party, we are neutral.”

Wakil further called on religious leaders, stakeholders, parents, brothers and sisters in the state to join hands in the war against drug abuse.

The Nigerian election is upon us and many celebrities have lent their voices to preaching about a free and fair voting process as well as shunning electoral malpractices.

Most people in Nigeria would describe election periods as a time to be more vigilant, seeing as opposition parties can go to any length to win.

Entertainers in the country have also tried to sensitise the populace on the things to do and also to avoid during this period, whether through posts on social media, campaigns and sometimes through music.

Fast rising singer, Victor AD, has also joined the growing list of socially conscious celebrities. He recently spoke about the ills that prevail in Nigeria during election periods as he lamented about the situation of things in the country in a new song titled Why.

Victor also sang about the importance of people not selling their votes because they would suffer for it if an incompetent leader is elected.

The song is rather touching and would have one thinking about whether collecting bribe in place of voting for the wrong candidate is really worth it.

The music star also featured Warri artiste, Erigga, who also lent his voice to the cause.

The video was directed by Dindu.

Meanwhile Legit.ng previously reported that the Warri based rapper, Erigga, recently made a joke that Nigeria's underwear has been used.

In recent times, there have been several harrowing reports about ladies undergarments being stolen by mischief makers for ritual purposes.

It has been claimed that people who have their undergarments stolen might start to experience tough times and find it hard to prosper in life.

Nigeria went against international human rights with Onnoghen’s removal - UN

The United Nations (UN) has berated the Nigerian government stating that the suspension of Chief Justice Walter Onnoghen as the head of the judiciary by President Muhammadu Buhari breaches international human rights standard.

Aljazeera quoted Diego Garcia-Sayan, the UN special rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers, on Monday, February 11, as saying: “International human rights standards provide that judges may be dismissed only on serious grounds of misconduct or incompetence.

READ ALSO: NAIJ.com upgrades to Legit.ng: a letter from our Editor-in-Chief Bayo Olupohunda

"Any decision to suspend or remove a judge from office should be fair and should be taken by an independent authority such as a judicial council or a court.”

The report said Diego Garcia-Sayan, mandated by the UN human rights council to investigate legal and judicial independence, lamented that sending judges packing without following the due process is an abuse of the independence of the judiciary.

The UN alleged that some of the judges and the defence lawyers involved in Onnoghen's case had been facing serious threats, pressures and interference.

Legit.ng earlier reported that the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) accused the National Judicial Council (NJC) of conniving with the presidency to retire Justice Walter Onnoghen and recommend Justice Tanko Mohammed as the substantive CJN.

Reports by Guardian claim that the council had earlier fixed Monday, February 11, to consider responses from Justices Onnoghen and Tanko over the petitions written against them.

In a statement issued in Abuja through its spokesperson, Ikenga-Imo Ugochinyere, the group said: "The compromised draft resolution contains the decision that the suspended Onnoghen be forcefully retired while Justice Mohammed be confirmed as the substantive CJN.

"It also contains the defence of Justice Tanko that as at the time he made himself available in the villa to be sworn in as acting CJN, he did not have much of a choice as security operatives were detailed to bring him to the Villa on his way from the Mosque.

"The acting chairman of NJC, Justice Abdullahi has already sealed a deal with the presidency and has already commenced his role of persuading members of the NJC to support the government and adopt the resolution."

Traditional leaders and community groups demand EFCC desk at communities

- Traditional leaders in Abuja have demanded that the EFCC set up in FCT and local governments across the country

- The leaders say it will intensify oversight at the local level and strengthen the process of accountability by public office holders

- The call was made in Kuje area council during a town-hall meeting organised by Say No Campaign

Traditional leaders across the area councils of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have demanded that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) desk be set up in the area councils and across the local government areas in the country.

The leaders say it will intensify oversight at the local level and strengthen the process of accountability by public office holders.

The leaders made the call on Friday, February 8 in Kuje area council during the town-hall meeting organised by anti-corruption group, Say No Campaign.

Participants, who consist of, traditional rulers, religious groups, youth, women groups, vigilantes, and the leadership of the area councils, insisted that while attention is concentrated at the centre, severe acts of corruption are ongoing at the local governments and area councils unchecked and the absence of the anti-corruption agencies in these communities make it extremely difficult for members to report or follow up on a petition.

PAY ATTENTION: Access your favourite news site Legit.ng instantly in 3 simple steps

While discussing approaches to combating corruption, participants noted that an anti-corruption fight must begin with addressing the root cause of corruption, which is highly embedded in poverty and unemployment, and government has a major responsibility in that regard.

They stressed that honesty and integrity will be meaningless to a hungry man who is unjustly treated and has a huge debt to pay.

They also advised on improved remuneration of public servants by the government to reflect the economic reality of the day, as only then will individuals be encouraged to desist from enabling corruption or selling of votes, giving the opportunity.

Community members bemoaned the reckless abandonment and non implementation of projects across the area councils, blaming it on lack of active oversight by community members.

Hence, they resolved to set up a community anticorruption monitoring group that will facilitate an effective monitoring of projects to combat the ruthless diversion of funds in communities across the FCT.

At Bwari area council, participants observed that retail corruption, as perpetrated by artisans, has equal disastrous effect on the society.

Some of these fraudulent acts as reported involved adulterating and injecting food items with harmful chemicals and substances to forcefully ripen and boost their appearances.

While calling on government to set up legislation to curb these fraudulent practices to protect the health of unsuspecting Nigerians, participants urged members to imbibe the culture of honesty and integrity in their affairs.

Similarly, participants applauded Say No Campaign for providing a platform for brainstorming ways of tackling corruption at the grassroots, stressing that to win an anti-corruption fight, both the people and the government must be sincere and committed, the fight must be happening concurrently, both at the top and bottom.

Meanwhile, a group of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) have called on the federal government to protect whistle blowers in Kano state against victimization.

In a statement sent to Legit.ng on Monday, January 28, the CSOs specifically made a case for Mr Jafaar Jafaar, an online news publisher who exposed the alleged corrupt deals of Kano state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, in series of videos that went viral online in 2018.

READ ALSO: NAIJ.com upgrades to Legit.ng: a letter from our Editor-in-Chief Bayo Olupohunda

In the video, Governor Ganduje was seen receiving what seemed like dollar currencies in bundles from an individual. The video suggests the governor was receiving bribe payment from a contractor handling construction works in the state.

The CSOs cautioned that is important that Jafaar and the contractor, are given every support needed to ensure that they are not victimized by the agents of the Kano state government.

- Alliance for Democracy as adopted President Buhari as its presidential candidate

- The party made the declaration on Monday, February 11, in Ibadan, Oyo state

- Oyedele Alao, the governorship candidate of the party in the state, said Buhari was chosen over Atiku because of achievements in office

Six days to presidential election, the candidate of All Progressives Congress, President Muhammadu Buhari's chances of winning the poll has again been boosted with his adoption by the Oyo state chapter of Alliance for Democracy (AD) as its presidential candidate.

Legit.ng reports that the governorship candidate of the party in the state, Oyedele Alao, made this known while addressing newsmen in Ibadan on Monday, February 11.

He said the midway withdrawal of AD presidential candidate, Emiola Ojajuni, geared the party to look for other candidate whom they believed could serve the interest of Nigerians better.

”Arising from this, the national body of AD, has given each of the state chapter of the party to adopt presidential candidate of their choice.

”We have taken time to critically look at the situation on ground, viz-a-viz, the two leading candidates, Buhari and Atiku Abubakar, before settling for Buhari.

”The personal attributes of Buhari as a spartan personality with integrity raises him far above his PDP counterpart. The current president has been doing his best to put the country on the right track.

”PMB has in the last four years began to lay the foundation of a new Nigeria. Therefore, to halt the process now will amount to taking back the country to the year of locust pilfering and shameful pillage of the common wealth.

”I hereby direct our members and supporters across the state to cast their votes for Buhari, the man with pure, genuine desire and clean heart for the true growth and development of Nigeria,” Alao stated.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Adeola Adepoju, the state chairman of the party and other party supporters witnessed the declaration. (NAN)

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that pandemonium broke out at the campaign rally of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abeokuta.

The campaign took a new twist when Ogun state governor, Ibikunle Amosun came on stage to campaign for the APC and Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

It was reported that in response, former governor Aregbesola came on stage to oppose the governor, asking the people to vote for only the candidates of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

A Federal High Court sitting in Calabar, thecapital of Cross River state, on Monday, February 11, sacked Senator John Owan-Enoh, a factional governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) currently recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The court, after sacking Senator John Owan Enoh, also disqualified other candidates of the APC currently recognized by INEC ahead of the forthcoming elections in the state.

Channels Television reports that also sacked was the factional leadership of the party led by John Ochalla, which is loyal to Owan-Enoh.

The report said the decision of the court presided over by Justice Simon Amobeda came in a two-hour judgement that ordered that Usani Usani should become the party’s candidate.

“INEC should only receive and accept the names and candidates for the 2019 elections that emerged from the lawful executive led by Godwin Etim John,” the court ordered.

It was learnt that Justice Amobeda ordered all those currently parading themselves as the executive members of the APC in the state to desist forthwith while the one led by Godwin Etim John should be recognized.

Counsel to the claimants, Ayei Okpa, who spoke with journalists after the judgement was quoted as saying: “The judgment clearly is in support of the rule of law as it also supports the yearning of the common man.

“Once a judgment is delivered in a court of law, everyone affected by that judgment is supposed and ought to comply with the said judgment and that is what this court today has confirmed.”

According to Okpa, INEC must now publish only the names that emerged from the lawful executive as declared buy INEC.

“If INEC refuses, the judgment will be enforced against INEC to ensure compliance.

“The court has every power under its disciplinary jurisdiction to undo what has been done unlawfully and the electoral act commands INEC to obey section 155 of the electoral act to obey where the court gives an order.

“INEC has every reason to comply with that order, what INEC did by publishing unlawful names is unlawful,” he said.

On his part, Ntufam Godwin Etim John said he was pleased with the judgement.

He said he was not surprised with the judgment since it arose from the disobedience of a court injunction and judgement.

Legit.ng earlier reported that the Supreme Court recently upheld the position of the High court in Port Harcourt nullifying the primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers.

A panel of five justices, presided by Justice Mohammed Dattijo on Friday, February 8, overruled the objection of the Tonye Cole-led faction of the APC that it had earlier withdrawn from the appeal against the court's ruling.

It is time to retire the political oligarchs in Kwara - Lai Mohammed declares

- Alhaji Lai Mohammed warns the people of Kwara not to return those he calls political oligarchs who have taken over the state

- Mohammed says the Kwara state government and those behind it have been blaming the Buhari government for their failure

- The minister lists major achievements of the federal government in Kwara state

Nigeria’s minister of information and culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, says the time has come to retire those he called political oligarchs who have appropriated Kwara state and its resources to themselves to the detriment of the people.

A statement from Segun Adeyemi, a presidential aide attached to his office, said Mohammed made the remarks while addressing the mammoth crowd that attended the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential rally in Ilorin, Kwara state on Monday, February 11.

“It is time to retire those who have held Kwara state down and made our people and our state very poor. They have been deceiving the people. They have been blaming the federal government for their failure.

“When they can't pay workers salary, they blame the federal government. When they can't provide infrastructure, they blame the federal government.

“They forgot to tell the people that Mr President has graciously approved bailouts and Paris Club refund for states, including Kwara. Ask them, where is the money? What did they do with it?” He queried.

The minister argued that that voting the present crop of leaders in the state into power again “is like giving them another licence to embark of a looting spree, and urged the people to be wary of their Greek gift under the guise of offsetting workers' salaries

“With elections approaching, their leader, I said their leader, not the state government, suddenly brought out N2.5 billion from his kitty to pay workers. Where do individuals pay state workers?

“Where did the money come from? It is your money that they have been keeping. They have brought out some of it because they are desperate.”

He noted that the Buhari administration had executed various infrastructural and social development projects in the state.

He listed some of the projects to including the rehabilitation of Ohan and Moro bridges on Ilorin-Igbeti road; construction of Patigi-Kpada road and the rehabilitation of Ilorin-Jebba-Mokwa road, which used to be a nightmare for motorists.

According to Mohammed, others being rehabilitated or constructed include the Ilorin-Kabba Obajana road; the Ajase-Ipo-Offa-Erin Ile-Osun state boundary; Kaiama-KIshi Road; Offa bypass in Offa as well as the dualization of Michael Imoudu Ganmo/Afon junction road Ilorin

Alhaji Mohammed said about 50,000 Kwarans are benefitting from ‘Tradermoni’ and ‘Marketmoni’, 9,886 homes in the state are benefitting from the conditional cash transfer that gives N5,000 monthly to the most vulnerable while the anchor borrowers' programme has seen the number of rice farmers in Kwara grow from 5,000 to 30,000.

He pleaded with the people of the state to vote for President Muhammadu Buhari, the APC governorship flag bearer in the state, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, and all other candidates of the party in the forthcoming elections.
