President Buhari cancels scheduled 5-day ‘casual leave’, gives reason

$
0
0

- President Buhari had planned to go on a five-day casual leave, to be spent in his Daura hometown

- The president, however, cancelled the plan in honour of victims of the Boko Haram terrorists in the recent attack in Borno

- Recall that the president had earlier cancelled his trip to Edo state, with a new plan to visit the Nigerian soldiers at the Boko Haram war front in Borno state

President Muhammadu Buhari has cancelled his planned five-day “casual leave’’ as a mark of respect for victims of Boko Haram attacks across the battlefields in the northeast zone of the country.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the president had planned to spend the casual leave at his home country, Daura, Katsina State from November 27 to December 2.

Recall that the president had earlier cancelled his official trip to Benin City, Edo, where he was initially billed to inaugurate the Edo-Azura Power Plant and grace the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Annual Conference.

READ ALSO: BREAKING: Confirmation of EFCC secretary suspended by Senate

NAN reports that already the advanced teams of the president, who left Abuja for Katsina and Benin on Sunday, November 25, had been asked to return.

Legit.ng gathered that the cancellation of the trips would also enable the president to continue his ongoing meetings and consultations with relevant security and intelligence community aimed at addressing the nation’s security challenges.

However, the president is expected to declare the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Annual Conference, which was moved from Benin City to Maiduguri, Borno, on November 28 at the Government House Conference Hall (CGH).

President Buhari’s aide on New Media, Alhaji Bashir Ahmad, had on November 25 confirmed this development on his tweeter handle.

He said: “President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to declare the COAS Annual Conference on November 28, 2018, at the Conference Hall CGH in Maiduguri, Borno state.

“The conference was earlier scheduled to take place from 26 -28 November 2018 in Benin, Edo state."

The shifting of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Annual Conference from Benin City to Maiduguri might not be unconnected with the killing of Nigerian soldiers at Metele, a remote village bordering Nigeria and Chad.

President Buhari would reportedly use the opportunity of the COAS conference to address the Nigerian soldiers at the battlefields to further boost their morale.

Meanwhile, Oby Ezekwesili, the presidential candidate of Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN), has reacted to the killings of Nigerian soldiers in Melete, Borno state, by men suspected to be Boko Haram.

The former minister, in a press statement made on Sunday, November 25, berated the country’s internal security apparatus, wondering why it took the Nigerian Army close to a week before announcing the incident to Nigeria.

Ezekwesili, commiserating with families of the deceased, demanded that the fallen heroes must not be deprived of their honour.

Both the ribbons and the braids are richly adorned with shiny metallic and deep red polished beads

  • Here, the young Alicia has cornrows again, but these are quite unusual ones. Some are done in such a way that it’s not clear where they start. The rounded rows run from the front to the backside of her head while some of them are braided from behind her ears to the front. This hairstyle looks very authentic with all those metallic and semi-transparent beads that are attached to the braids. This is one of the loveliest styles for Alicia Keys braids with beads

Alicia has also worn simple braids without special decorations several times.

  • This hairstyle combines simple tiny cornrows braided to sides from the parting in the middle and curled braids. The cornrows are done up to the middle of her head while the part behind the crown is braided from the roots of her hair. The extensions are picked so carefully that the color matches Alicia’s own hair color completely

Apart from braiding the head all over, Alicia has shown the world many other diverse hairstyles, in which braids were just a supporting element. Let’s see how braids can be used to create a stylish and lovely look.

Alicia Keys braids

  • Wearing braids can be as simple as this. Just add a headband or tie a shawl this way and nobody will see anything except the braids that you leave hanging loosely from under the headpiece. It’s such a romantic and lovely hairstyle!

  • In this updo, Alicia has used her thick voluminous and soft braid to create a kind of bun on the crown of her head. It’s a great alternative to regular buns, which can be seen quite frequently on other women

  • Here, Alicia has a curly Mohawk right from the forehead and to the back of her head while the sides are supported by rows of braids. This hairstyle is as simple as it looks but if your face is like Alicia’s, you will be delighted when you discover how lovely such a hairstyle looks

  • In this picture, Alicia’s carefully straightened hair is done into a spiral messy braid with quite a careless set of wavy strands on the top of her head. Such a hairstyle is even suitable for an office that has no strict rules regarding haircuts and hairstyles in its dress code

  • Again, braided temples create a stunning effect due to the pattern they create. A mirror-smooth bun a little lower than the crown of Alicia’s head completes the look. With all its simplicity, the look is really worth the highest appraisal

  • Here, we can see Alicia wearing an extremely feminine and elegant hairstyle with all her hair swept backwards and done into a thick inverted braid. The braid looks like it has no beginning and no end and this illusion adds beauty to the hairstyle

  • A kind of the Mohawk hairstyle we’ve seen in Alicia’s “Girl on Fire” has an element of braiding, too. While the frontal part forms the characteristic bun, the rear part of Alicia’s hair is done into a tight secret braid

  • Some braiding into twisted cornrows, and here’s a side ponytail done on the opposite side from the braiding. The idea is so simple and so great. The tips of the braids added to the ponytail serve as a natural decoration

  • Twisted and crossed braids all around the face and tight springy curls on the back of Alicia’s head, gathered into pigtails – here’s this elegant and really smoking hot hairstyle

  • Some more thin cornrows that create a twisted pattern and leave the tips of hair free for a bun on the back of Alicia’s head.

These are the best braided hairstyles seen on the lovely Alicia. However, seeing her love for braids of different types, we can assume that something awesome is still waiting for us in the future. No doubt, having tasted the colorfulness of the orange and pink braids, Alicia is very likely to go on and surprise her fans with new hair experiments quite soon.

Have you been looking for some information on how to monetize Facebook groups? If so, you are in luck, as that is exactly what we are going to talk about today! Find out here how to make money from Facebook page, as we discuss 7 ways of monetization everyone should know about.

How to monetize Facebook groups

Photo: pinterest.com

So you have a Facebook group but you have no clue how you can make it profitable? Not to worry, as we have prepared 7 methods that can help you gain money from Facebook groups, and in some cases, the groups do not even have to be yours! So strap in and get ready to learn how to earn money from Facebook.

How to make money on Facebook through Buy and Sell

How to monetize Facebook groups

Photo: vulcanpost.com

This is probably one of the easiest ways you can make money from Facebook. You just need to find some local Buy and Sell groups and use them to sell stuff you have no use for, or you can try selling the fruits of your labour. As you can see, you do not even need to be running a Facebook group to earn money from it!

Alternatively, if you so choose, or if there is no Buy and Sell group in your neighbourhood yet, you can create one yourself. This will also allow you to make sure your products gain enough attention from the potential buyers, as you are the one controlling things.

One more option is to have a store on your Facebook group. This is for when you have actual products you can offer, not just things you have no use for anymore. Facebook has become a rather convenient platform for selling things this way, as it makes the seller-buyer communication much easier, among other things.

Not that long ago, Facebook also launched Marketplace. Now, this is not exactly a group (as far as we can tell), and it is not yet available everywhere, but it also allows you to sell items via Facebook. So if it is available in your region, you can give it a try as well.

How to make money through Facebook by offering services

Apart from things, you can also sell services. There are plenty of Facebook groups for those who are looking for people to do various things for them, so there is a fair chance that your services are needed by someone. Go ahead and see whether you can put a decent price tag on your skills.

Similarly to the first point, you can either advertise your services on already existing groups, or you can create your own group for people like you. Moreover, you can have a whole group dedicated solely to your services, where you can describe what you offer in more detail than in a single post.

Use your Facebook group to drive traffic to your other ventures

Now, this way is only for people who have something that is already monetised, like a website, a YouTube channel, a blog or something similar that could use some advertisement. It is especially useful if your Facebook presence is more significant than on your other platforms.

If you post links to your channel/website/blog/whathaveyou and share some information about it that might interest people in checking it out, the so-called ‘power of Facebook’ can bring a lot of new visitors to you purely through the word of mouth.

On Facebook, ads are just as prevalent as on all other social media. There are many options to choose from if you want to have ads on your page, so as long as you are interested in gaining money from advertisements, you can find something that fits you best.

You can collaborate with other people or brands and promote their products or services. This can be done through either pay-per-click system or affiliate programme. In the first case, you get paid for every click of your page visitors on the ad in your group. In the second case, you get a percentage from every action (sale, subscription, etc.) your visitors perform by using your affiliate link.

How to raise money on Facebook for donations

If you run a non-profit group, you can set up donations for your page. As long as you are campaigning for a worthy cause, you can use Facebook to collect donations from interested individuals. This social media website has made it very convenient, as people can now donate with a press of a button.

In order for you to get a Donate button, your page must be certified as a non-profit organisation. Once you gain the ability to add this button to your page, you will also be able to use it on your posts. That way, people will not even have to go to the page to donate, as they could do so directly from the post.

Use your Facebook group to raise funds

While this is similar to the previous option, this one is available for everyone, not just non-profits. If you have a worthy cause you want to raise funds for, you can create a personal fundraiser on Facebook. With its help, you can collect donations from people sympathetic to your cause.

Now, keep in mind that this is no Kickstarter. If you planned to raise money for your business start-up, this might not be the best platform. Personal fundraisers on Facebook can be for personal emergencies, medical/funeral bills, crisis relief, community improvements and other things of this sort. That said it is still a very useful tool that allows anyone who is over 18 to create a fundraiser for a worthy cause.

Monetize your Facebook group by charging a membership fee

How to monetize Facebook groups

Photo: isupdate.com

You might be aware that there are lots of closed or secret groups on Facebook, where you can get admitted only if you fulfill the requirements. Well, why not make one of the requirements a subscription fee? If you have some valuable information to offer, you should not offer it for free :)

A few months ago, Facebook introduced subscription groups, which make the process of charging an entrance fee to a group much easier. However, this service is not yet available in all regions, so you might have to stick to the old ways for a while.

As you can see, there are many ways you can monetize a Facebook group, be it yours or someone else’s. If you are serious about this, you should have been able to find at least a few that are applicable to you, so go ahead and implement them!

Africa is very blessed with a beautiful tradition and culture. It is no wonder that several foreigners come to the country to be a part of such lovely displays.

Nigerians are awed by the story of Austrian born woman, Susan Wenger, now popularly known as Adunni Olorisa, who came to the country and made it her home.

It all started when Susan and her first husband, Ulli Beier, came to Nigeria. Beier was a German researcher and a linguist while Susan was an artist.

Susan worked as an artist in Nigeria while her husband was a lecturer at the University of Ibadan. They lived together in Ede, Osun state.

While in Ede, Wenger became interested in Yoruba rituals despite not being able to speak the language. She reportedly got close to Ajagemo, one of the last priests of Obatala worship.

However, Susan and her husband later moved to Osogbo and they divorced soon after. Beier moved back to Europe while his ex-wife stayed behind to learn the art of being a priestess.

The huge turning point in Susan’s life came when she fell seriously ill with tuberculosis. The sickness was slowly killing her till medicine men came to her aid and gave her herbal mixtures which healed her.

Insurance: Hedging the risk of uncertain loss

$

Life is a risky business. Leciester City football club is suffering a great loss after the tragic death of its owner, Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha – a man much loved by his club and community. The club owner was often seen flying out of the King Power Stadium, rather than leaving by car. But on October 27, his helicopter went down at about 8.45pm, just 200 metres away from the stadium where Wilfred Ndidi had scored the Foxes' equaliser against West Ham United, which closed the game at a 1-1 draw.

Insurance: Hedging the risk of uncertain loss

Back in 2016: Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha (L) with former Leicester manager, Claudio Ranieri, after winning the Premier League © getty images

The 60-year-old Thai billionaire had an impressive résumé: he bought the English football club in 2010 for £39 million, owned King Power Duty Free, and ranked as the 5th richest man in Thailand (reportedly worth US$4.9 billion, as of October 2018). Only last year, he made a massive investment by purchasing six horses for £2.05 million, in a bid to conquer horse racing at Royal Ascot. In May 2017, he bought his second football club, OH Leuven in Belgium.

Life is risky. It raises the question: was Mr. Srivaddhanaprabha or his helicopter covered by any kind of insurance?

It appears so. The insurer for the crash has just been revealed. According to The Insurance Insider, the Lockton-brokered aviation policy is led by insurance giant AIG. It said the crash, which involved the tycoon’s AgustaWestland AW169 helicopter, will cost the market approximately $38 million.

The thrust of our article, therefore, is the role of insurance in wealth planning. It harps on what should painfully be the obvious: a sound insurance strategy will always minimise the impact of a disaster, and help protect people and businesses from the financial risk and consequences of life's events.

Insurance: Hedging the risk of uncertain loss

Tying up loose ends

Insurance and wealth management

insurance is often ignored in financial planning, yet it plays a vital role in a well-rounded wealth management and succession-planning strategy.

A good personal financial plan pinpoints a range of risks and determines whether to buy insurance to protect against them — and how much to buy.

The easiest and most cost-effective way to mitigate these risks is through insurance products, which cover every imaginable area of living: Special interests (aviation, yachts and watercraft, classic automobiles, Fine Art); Safeguarding property (homeowners, valuable articles, commercial property, automobiles); Added protection (flood, wind, earthquake, umbrella/excess liability); Guarding against the unthinkable (kidnap and ransom, extortion); Business and family interests (directors and officers, family office liability)

But, here’s the big question: how do you determine the type and extent of insurance you really need?

The answer is hidden in plain sight: When expert advisor Simon Tanner talks to clients about insurance, he usually starts with a simple question: “What is your greatest asset?”

Clients often talk about their homes or their investment portfolios, but Tanner is looking for a different response.

“The reality is, your greatest asset is your ability to earn an income,” he says “When you’re [considering] insurance, what you’re really looking at is protecting that asset.”

With that as a basis, the two priority areas of insurance to consider for protection against the devastating financial effects of death, disability and long-term care expenses are:

• Life insurance, which, in addition to providing a death benefit, is often used for tax planning or to clear up any remaining liabilities at death. In the event that you pass on prematurely, life insurance will protect your loved ones (estate tax relief, business succession, wealth transfer, executive benefits). Annuities, on the other hand, can help protect your retirement by generating guaranteed payments that are designed to last as long as you live.

• Living benefits, which include disability insurance, critical illness insurance and long-term care insurance that provide healthcare benefits while one is alive.

Bottomline

Priorities dictate cover

Ultimately, investors buying insurance must decide on their priorities, after which they will have a really good idea of the type of insurance that fits their needs, over what period they want protection, and how much (through comparison shopping) they are willing to pay for it.

Says Tanner: “I have never delivered a claim cheque where someone has asked what type of insurance it was. The questions at the time of death, illness or disability are: Is this enough money? Did we have enough coverage? Is my family going to be okay?”

Record breakers

Policies of the affluent

Insurance: Hedging the risk of uncertain loss

When it comes to insuring against life's hazards, the wealthy often require unique solutions. Defending a fortune against the exposures inherent in lavish living, luxury yachts, priceless art, or numerous homes requires highly sophisticated insurance policies that work in concert. Here are two instructive scenarios:

• Most valuable: life insurance policy

An undisclosed tech-industry billionaire in the US set a Guinness World Record in 2014 for the most valuable life insurance policy ever written. According to Guinness World Records news service, the $201 million policy features “a combined death benefit to be paid upon the death of the single insured.”

For anyone wondering why a billionaire tech mogul would take on such a sizable life insurance policy, the policy underwriters explained, in a 2014 interview with Forbes: "In California, there are state death taxes that are exceptionally high. If your properties are leveraged, then those loans are called immediately and need to be paid off. So if you want to head yourself against such a risk [your beneficiary] can receive the proceeds [from life insurance] without being exposed to taxes."

• Most expensive: car crash

Rowan Atkinson, the British actor made famous by his role as Mr. Bean, is believed to have received the largest automobile accident pay-out in history. When, in 2011, Atkinson crashed his McLaren F1 into a hedge, his insurance company ended up paying £910,000 for the repairs, making the compensation what is believed to be the single-largest auto insurance claim ever. Atkinson would crash the car two times while he owned it - but that didn’t stop someone from purchasing the vehicle for £8 million when the actor put it on the market.

Conclusion

Risk management forms the basis of any financial plan, which should focus on insuring for what can go wrong, so you can invest for what can go right. The thought of delegating the financial risk of death, illness or disability to an insurance service provider might not be exciting or glamorous, but it is the smart move. And it provides financial peace of mind, in all cases.

- Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibo state was reported to have arrived the state House of Assembly complex with security operatives to disrupt the plenary

- The plenary, which was disrupted by the governor, was held by five sacked lawmakers who recently defected from PDP to APC

- Governor Udom, however, justified his action, adding that being the chief security officer of the state, he has right to prevent any brewing crisis

Akwa Ibom state governor, Udom Emmanuel, allegedly disrupted the sitting of a faction of the state House of Assembly on Tuesday, November 27, Punch reports.

The governor was reported to have arrived the complex of the Akwa Ibom state House of Assembly where five lawmakers who defected to All Progressives Congress (APC) were holding plenary.

Legit.ng gathers that the five lawmakers were earlier sacked following their defection to APC, leading to pandemonium that resulted to the presence of the security operatives at the House of Assembly complex.

Earlier, the Senate had set up a committee to look into the alleged invasion of the Akwa Ibom House by security operatives.

In a report available in Daily Trust, the factional speaker, Nse Ntuen, was reportedly manhandled and harassed by security personnel.

The report also has it that the vehicle of the factional leader was almost mobbed by people said to be loyalists of the governor.

Premium Times reports that the names of other four lawmakers allegedly stopped from holding sitting include Gabriel Toby, Otobong Ndem, Mkpat Enin Victor Udofia, and Idongesit Ituen.

Defending the presence of Governor Udom Emmanuel at the House of Assembly complex, the commissioner for information in the state, Charles Udoh, said it was necessary for the governor to visit the complex being the chief security officer in the state.

He said: “The governor is the chief security officer of the Akwa Ibom state, so when there is a security threat, the governor has to physically supervise what’s going on there.

“The five dissident, sacked House members, aided by the police with thugs dressed in fake police and army uniform, had invaded the House of Assembly. The governor, being the chief security officer of Akwa Ibom state, has an obligation to be there.

“The governor’s presence helped to restore peace and calm at the House of Assembly, especially when you consider the fact that the illegality perpetrated by the five sacked members was aided and abetted by the Nigeria Police Force."

- Nollywood actor IK Ogbonna recently opened about his marriage struggles

- While chatting with media personality, Daddy freeze, he stated that no marriage is perfect and having issues is part of the process

- This is coming shortly after himself and his Columbian wife are rumoured to be separated

By now, most fans know there's trouble in paradise for Nollywood actor IK Ogbonna and his wife, Sonia Morales but unfortunately, it appears they have still not completely settled the problem. Legit.ng earlier shared the reaction of Ogbonna to his wife travelling solo and flaunting her ring-less finger on social media.

For the first time, the actor has opened up about the issue to media personality, Daddy Freeze. Chatting with the leader of Free the Sheeple Movement recently, IK stated that 'no marriage is perfect.' He went further to address the problem he has with his wife and said: “Even if we have issues like every relationship has, I feel like when we see one on one, we will sort them out. The thing I hate about Nigerians on marriage is that everyone tries to pretend like marriage is perfect. If you don’t fight with your wife, you are not in a relationship. No marriage is perfect. My wife is my best friend first. We might not agree on everything but we are true friends.”

From his tone, it appears Ogbonna is yet to see his wife since the problem that drove her out of her matrimonial home began. In fact, she's still currently enjoying herself abroad and sharing killer photos on the gram.

It however appears IK Ogbonna wants his woman back. In the chat with Daddy Freeze, the father of one recounted how he met his wife after they had been talking on Instagram for a few months. He revealed that he was completely broke when she first visited him in Nigeria.

He said: “I was stark broke when she came. I had just finished paying my rent and my account was red. I remember I borrowed like N10k from Adunni Ade. I used N5k to fuel the car to go to the airport. I had to buy Indomie (noodles) and a crate of eggs. I thought I was going to lose her.”

To his surprise, she stuck with him and even stayed in Nigeria for few more months and returned pregnant.

"At some point, I had to tell her that I am a hustling guy. I am just someone that believes in myself. She asked me one question; do I look like someone that wants to marry a broke person?. Then she said the second she saw me, she knew I was destined for something great. I had goosebumps, and instantly I knew she was my wife.” he said.

Meanwhile, recently, Ikechukwu Ogbonna called on rich Nigerian men to help the economy rather than use their money to spoil young ladies. In a chat with Vanguard, the actor noted that there are rich men who dole out money to young ladies everyday in exchange for intercourse. He advised the men to use their money to create jobs rather than give it to girls.

“I’m a hunter, I know all these bushes. I’m a professional hunter; I can delegate a team of hunters.

Kazaure, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is reportedly known for making sensational statements.

The Punch reports that in March 2018, the Rep said on the floor of the House that if women were given too much opportunity, they would eventually overthrow men.

His latest statement was in response to the latest killing of soldiers by Boko Haram insurgents in Metele, Borno state.

A faction of the sect known as Islamic State West Africa had attacked the 157 Task Force Battalion in Metele, firing rocket-propelled grenades, leading to the massacre of the soldiers.

Lawyers, doctors, engineers, actors, make-up artists, these are only a few of the many professions that Nigerians are often found to take up as lifetime careers. However, in the great sea of professional possibilities open to Nigerians, the one career that is almost not taken into consideration is the work of being a scientist.

In this regard, it is not often common to find Nigerians who are solely dedicated to studying science and being inventors of genius innovations. This can partly be attributed to the very low attention paid to science and technology in the country.

But even more, the lack of awareness and seeming difficulty attached to the work of a scientist cannot be overlooked. Most often, Nigerians are prone to the assumption that inventing something happens coincidentally and that it is virtually nearly impossible to dedicate one’s life to looking for an abstract ingenious thing that might never exist.

This is not to talk of the fact that when settling for a profession, Nigerians take the ‘money factor’ in consideration more than anything else.

However, in spite of the near absence of scientists amongst the Nigerian populace, some indigenes of the country have channeled the ingenuity in them into being inventors of great astounding concepts and technological equipment that have gained international repute.

In no particular order, here are 6 Nigerian scientists who took the world by storm and who are still holding high the mantle of science and technology.

1. Mohammed Bah Abba

7 Nigerian scientists you have probably never heard of

Mohammed Bah Abba Source: Youtube

The scientific works of Mohammed Bah Abba were born out of necessity, not curiosity. The said Northerner comes from a rural area where farmers are known to grow their own crops and rear their own animal for food in what is known as subsistence farming.

Although these rural farmers grow enough crop to take care of themselves, most of their farm produce eventually perish due to lack of a proper storage facility. Due to this, our good man Mohammed thought of inventing something that could avert this problem.

It was out of his works that the Pot-in-Pot Preservation system evolved in the 1990s. This machine solved the problem of the lack of refrigerators. For this accomplishment, he received the Rolex Award for Enterprise in 2001 and used his $75,000 award to make the invention to expand his reach across Nigeria.

Needless to say, there are awesome Nigerians who are excellent in Mathematics. But then, being a Maths expert is different from being a mathematician. Professor Gabriel Oyibo is a renowned mathematician whose works were both controversial and useful. He founded the popular theory called “God Almighty Grand Unified Theorem (GAGUT)”.

This theory has been massively criticised by some scholars. While some people see him as a man not thinking with his right faculty, others perceive him as a genius. Whatever the case, Professor Gabriel is known to have a full curriculum vitae.

For one, the professor obtained his Ph.D. in Aeronautics and Mathematics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) Troy, New York where he worked for four (4) years on NASA/AFOSR sponsored research. He made a lot of contributions in aircraft design, aerodynamics, aeroelasticity, mathematics and taught several courses. This achievement made His Royal Highness, Attah of the Igala Kingdom bestow upon him the honour of Knighthood.

A statement by Segun Adeyemi, an aide to Alhaji Mohammed, said the minister was represented by the director, public relations and protocol, of the federal ministry of information and culture, Sunny Adejoh Baba.

“This effort should not be seen as the sole effort of Mr President or the government alone. The media has a duty to ensure that the programmes of government, meant to uplift the lots of the citizenry, are projected as a national cause and not just as that of Mr President or the administration,” the minister said.

The minister, who said the BON general assembly is taking place at an auspicious time in view of the forthcoming general elections, charged the broadcasting organizations not to yield their platforms to the purveyors of hate speech and fake news.

Mohammed said the broadcasting outfits should instead promote the unity, stability and the development of the country.

“Anything short of this would amount to a criminal abdication of a sacred duty which could spell doom for our collective national life. We have had enough sordid examples to learn from that we ought not to allow a repeat at this critical time of our national development.

“It is therefore of utmost importance that the media and specifically, broadcast media, do not allow itself to become a purveyor of fake news and hate speeches,” he said while restating the federal government’s commitment to allowing the press to carry out its assigned watchdog roles.

He, however, said the government expects the press to be guided by national interest above every other interests.

- He disclosed that he still has the APC ticket for Imo West (Orlu) senatorial election

Despite the crisis rocking the Imo state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Governor Rochas Okorocha of has reiterated that he is still in the ruling party, adding that his support for President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election is intact.

Speaking at the Government House, Owerri, during a media briefing on Tuesday, November 27, Governor Okorocha added that the embattled state APC governorship candidate, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu, remained the best candidate for the election in the state.

“He is visionary, dutiful, hardworking and a proactive young man. He remains the best among all the candidates for the governorship election in the state,” he said.

Okorocha, however, maintained that he was still in the APC having been one of the founding fathers of the party in the country.

He said: “I cannot be part of destroying the mansion I have helped in building. I totally support the APC and all of its candidates for the 2019 general elections.”

He further described what played out in the APC governorship primaries in Imo state as a political injustice.

Boko Haram attack: Send your service chiefs packing - Afenifere makes demand of Buhari

- Afenifere demands the immediate sack of Nigeria's service chiefs by President Muhammadu Buhari

- The pan-Yoruba socio-political group laments how the Boko Haram insurgents could kill about 100 soldiers even when $1 billion was recently pumped into the fight

- The group slammed the federal government for its alleged indifference to the attack by the insurgents on soldiers

Afenifere, the pan-Yoruba socio-political group, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately sack of all the nation’s service chiefs, because of the recent killing of over 100 soldiers by the Boko Haram insurgents in Melete, Borno state.

Afenifere made its demand on Tuesday, November 27, in Akure, Ondo state after its monthly meeting. The group slammed federal government for reportedly being indifferent and insensitive to the killings by the insurgents.

In a communiqué it issued at the meeting, the Afenifere noted: “First, it kept quiet for six days after the incident and when it found its voice there were no soothing words for the bereaved families

“We were more pained at this tragic and monumental loss by the high insensitivity the federal government displayed on this matter.”

READ ALSO: 2019: Southeast PDP governors' absence at Atiku's installation unsettles party

The group lamented that the killing of the soldiers occurred despite the injection of $1 billion by the federal government to equip the military in the fight against Boko Haram some months ago.

The communiqué which was read by Yinka Odumakin, the group’s spokesperson, stated: “The massacre of our ill-equipped troops by the evil sect raises serious concerns about the state of our armed forces to combat readiness in spite of the unappropriated $1b the government claimed it disbursed months back to equip our military against insurgency.

“Meeting was devastated by the killings of over 100 Nigerian soldiers in Melete a week ago by the dreaded Boko Haram terror group.

“It had hardly made the bland statements before descending into the gutter of political quarrelling over the killings at a time a more sensitive leadership should have declared national mourning for the high casualties recorded which many countries never matched in wars that lasted for several years.

“Afenifere demands as a first step the immediate removal of the service chiefs who are already in their retirement years but are still kept in service by the president in what many have interpreted as partisan needs as we move towards the next elections.

“Their illegal stay, in spite of not being effective, it has equally killed morale in the armed forces as three sets of officers have now had their careers stagnated.

“The sack of the service chiefs should be followed with a probe of what has happened to defence allocations as we as a people cannot reconcile our extremely vulnerable troops and wailing soldiers in the forest with the heavy spendings the government claimed it has committed to security.

“It is our prayer that God will comfort them and intervene in the affairs of our country and give us a leadership that is more than equal to the challenges we face.”

PAY ATTENTION: Download our mobile app to enjoy the latest news updates

Afenifere also complained about the continued rate of kidnap in south west region, especially Ondo state saying the meeting was “briefed about the continuous criminal activities of armed herdsmen in the South West as evident in the kidnapping of six Ondo indigenes on November 14 as they were returning from Akure to Ikare Akoko.

“The people who were kidnapped at Ago Ajayi, a farm settlement between Ose and Ikare in Akokoland included five men a woman snatched in two cars.

“They were released after three days in captivity after being subjected to live threatening experiences and ransom paid.

“Their abductors made them view the horror of decapitated bodies of their previously Killed victims as they wielded AK 47 rifles.

“These unhinged security challenges continue to daily show that the country’s security architecture has collapsed under the crushing weight of unitary arrangement that concentrates the country’s Security apparatus only in the hands of the federal government

“We cannot continue without decentralising the police for proper security at state levels.”

President Muhammadu Buhari had, on Tuesday, November 27, cancelled his planned five-day 'casual leave’ as a mark of respect for victims of Boko Haram attacks across the battlefields in the northeast zone of the country.
