Mimiko asked Jonathan to prosecute Buhari for “certificate forgery”, disqualify him from contesting 2015 election - New book reveals

- Former Ondo state governor, Olusegun Mimiko, allegedly wanted Goodluck Jonathan to prosecute and disqualify Muhammadu Buhari in 2015 presidential election

- He allegedly wanted the then candidate prosecuted for “certificate forgery”

- Mohammed Bello Adoke, former attorney general of the federation was said to have argued against such action

- Consequently, Adoke, was said to have been blamed for the loss of Jonathan by the former president's supporters and wife

Bolaji Abdullahi, a minister under Goodluck Jonathan from 2011-2014 alleged that former Ondo state governor, Olusegun Mimiko wanted presidential candidate Buhari prosecuted for “certificate forgery” and disqualified from contesting in the 2015 election.

He said Mimiko wanted then attorney general of the federation, Mohammed Bello Adoke to issue a fiat that would have given the power to a private citizen to prosecute Buhari for certificate forgery which could have led to his disqualification from the election, “or at the very least, disrupt the electoral process”.

But Adoke, despite the pressure, refused to initiate process for Buhari's disqualification, hence, he was blamed by supporters and even Patience Jonathan for the eventual loss of the former president.

Abdullahi made this allegation in his upcoming book: ‘On a Platter of Gold: How Jonathan Won and Lost Nigeria’.

The former minister, however, claimed that Adoke blocked the move by Mimiko and others after he argued that there was no legal basis to prosecute Buhari.

It should be recalled that Buhari had initially claimed that his secondary school certificate was with the military authorities, but they denied having it. He later got a replacement from his alma mater, Government College, Katsina.

The Cable reports that, in the advance copy of the book it sighted, Abdullahi described Jonathan as a man who had “a distinct aversion for taking any action that could be regarded as unlawful or illegal”.

And as a result of this, the attorney-general became central to most of the decisions the former president had to make.

It also reported that Patience Jonathan called Adoke a “useless man” for not helping to disqualify candidate Muhammadu Buhari.

Abdullahi wrote: “Two days after the election, Adoke had gone to see the president in respect of the appointment of a new chief judge for the FCT. While waiting in the outer room, the First Lady walked in. He rose to greet her. But she took one long look at him and hissed: ‘Useless man. You betrayed my husband. Now that he has lost the election, you are happy. It was the same Attorney General that Bayo Ojo used to disqualify Atiku for Obasanjo (in 2007). It was the same office that (Mike) Aondoakaa used to make dead man (Umaru Musa Yar’Adua) to rule Nigeria. But when it comes to my husband, you will be shouting, constitution, constitution."

Going further, he wrote: “There were a number of other issues that led many in the president’s immediate political circle to conclude that Adoke was the reason that President Jonathan failed to act with the required toughness on some issues,” Abdullahi wrote.

“When in May 2013 the president declared a state of emergency in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe, some of the president’s men, led by Ijaw leader Edwin Clark, had asked him to sack the governors of those states as part of the emergency measures. Adoke, on the other hand, counselled the president against sacking the governors, insisting that such action had no constitutional backing. Clark fired back, asking the president to sack Adoke himself.

“Prominent lawyers and civil society groups promptly weighed in on the side of the minister, and commended him for being a ‘constitutional purist’. They noted that he could easily have allowed the president to act differently, if he were so minded, relying on the precedent set by President Obasanjo in the case of Plateau State and Governor Joshua Dariye in 2004 – a matter concerning which the Supreme Court had declined to make a definite ruling.”

Abdullahi said a similar situation arose after five governors left the PDP to join APC in November 2013.

“Some PDP governors had gone to the president and asked that their decamped (defected) colleagues be removed and be replaced by their deputies. Their argument was that those governors did not contest the elections by themselves but on behalf of the party. They pointed out that this had been determined in the case of Amaechi vs. INEC (in 2007), in which the Supreme Court ruled that it is the party that contests election and not an individual,” he wrote.

“The mandates held by those governors were therefore held in trust for the PDP and could not be transferred to another party. If a governor left the party, as the five governors had done, they ought to leave their mandate behind. Where their deputies did not follow them to APC, those deputies should be sworn in as governors without delay. Whereas, where the deputy governors had also decamped, a sole administrator should be appointed. Failure to take these steps would amount to robbing Peter to pay Paul.

“The president summoned the Attorney General and asked for his opinion. In line with his established character, Adoke told the president that the position being canvassed by the governors could not withstand the test of the law. The constitution did not grant the president such powers and had spelt out clearly how a governor could be removed from office. If Jonathan were to act as the governors were canvassing for, it would amount to an impeachable offence. And that was the end of the matter.”

The book will go on sale nationwide from November 30, 2017 after the launch.

The Anambra governorship election was largely successful

Before the election, Senator Oduah had advised the people of Anambra state to come out en masse and vote candidates of their choice in the election.

The advice was given by the senator who represents Anambra North Senatorial District, following threats by some groups to the citizens to boycott the election.

Oduah who dropped out of the PDP governorship primary which produced Oseloka Obaze as the party's standard bearer, stressed that irrespective of political affiliation, the interest of the state comes first.

Top facts you are to know about stub networks

If you are interested in various networks, or how the Internet works, you have probably come across the term ‘stub network’. But what is a stub network? How does it work? Today, we will try our best to explain what this term means. Check it out!

What is a stub network?

What is stub network?

So what does ‘stub network’ mean? According to Technopedia, it is a network that, by default, only has one path to hosts outside of the local network. It does not know anything about the outside network. All of the non-local traffic from the stub network comes through only one logical path when coming in or out.

Stub networks could also be considered LANs (local area networks) that either have no connection to the outside networks and transfer data packets inside their own network, or know about only one exit out of the network and are essentially a dead end.

If we had to define stub networks in simpler terms, we would use the bridge analogy. Imagine an island that is connected to the mainland via only one bridge. People can come in or out only through that bridge. The island might also have some extra bridges, but they all lead to one point somewhere on the mainland.

Stub networks operate by using a stub router that can have different configurations. These configurations include:

  • Redistribute. Routers in this mode can advertise redistributed routes.
  • Summary. This mode means that stub routers advertise summary routes.
  • Static. Router only advertises static routes.
  • Connected. This mode allows the router to advertise networks that are connected directly.
  • Receive only. If router is in ‘receive-only’ mode, it will not advertise any other networks.

Default modes of stub routers are ‘summary’ and ‘connected’. You can combine and choose any options that suit your needs, apart from ‘receive only’. Routers in this mode will deny all advertisements, which means that other configurations are incompatible with this one.

Examples of stub networks

stub network

Now, what could be some examples of stub networks? Let’s see:

  • One of the examples of a stub network is an OSPF area (open-shortest-path-first) that, by default, has one OSFP routing path. This area can have several routers that, by default, only know about one exit route.
  • Another example is an enterprise-level local area network that is connected to the corporate intranet through one router or several routers that are connected to a single logical destination.
  • LAN can also be a stub if it does not carry multiple data packets via the router. All of the data traffic goes to or comes from local hosts.
  • A person (or a group) can also be a stub network if they use a single router to connect to an ISP (Internet service provider). ISP considers such individuals or groups as stubs.

That is all we can tell you about stub networks. We hope we have been able to adequately explain the concept. Next time, when you come across this term, you will not be confused again!

11 important things you should know about NYSC certificate in Nigeria

$

Most Nigerians dream about acquiring the NYSC certificate. The NYSC stands for National Youth Service Corps – a Nigerian organization started by the government in attempts to involve younger people into national service. Is the certificate as important as it sounds? Find out about the main advantages and disadvantages of NYSC certificate for Nigerian youths and their participation in the country service.

NYSC youth in Nigeria

What is the NYSC program and how does it work?

Let us take a quick and brief course in history. In 1973, the National Youth Service Corps was launched for the first time. Ahmadu Ali was the first Director-General. Since then, a compulsory requirement for graduates of Nigerian polytechnics and universities is to participate in the program every year. The aim is for them to serve their country and learn the value of Nigeria’s rich culture.

The NYSC journey begins with the graduates spending three weeks away from their family and loved ones, at a designated military-controlled boot camp, which is widely known as the “orientation” camp. All the National Youth Service Corps participants are sent here in order to learn to be independent, meet a lot of new people from different social backgrounds and cultures, and learn new things about the various historical and cultural aspects of the state.

At the end of every year, the participants are required to take part in the “passing out ceremony”, which is set up as a parade – this is the time for all the NYSC participants to officially receive their certificate and return to their respective homes.

NYSC camp

The main benefits of the program

Basically, the program was established and developed in order to help Nigerian youths find their place in life. The historical importance of NYSC certificate is understood and valued by most of Nigerian students and graduates because when they finally receive it, it means that all the doors are now open for them. They become eligible for the list of jobs which can be available only for people who have completed the compulsory national service of one year, and these jobs are mostly in governmental establishments, as well as a few private ones. The exceptions are only given to the people who are older than thirty and physically disabled individuals.

Many students look forward to their mandatory service because of the unique experience it offers and to learn patriotism and loyalty to their country and each other. Most youths in Nigeria never get the opportunity to find out about different cultures, and they value this chance given to them by NYSC.

So why are people arguing about the importance of NYSC?

Despite all its benefits, people have mixed opinions about the importance of NYSC. While some see that it's advantageous, others doubt its usefulness mainly due to its reputation in recent years.

Here are a few advantages and disadvantages of completing NYSC program and receiving a certificate. The choice is up to you, so regard all the points and choose wisely.

NYSC certificate

Advantages:

  • Driving: You can drive without a license as long as you are an NYSC corper and can prove it with a special identification.
  • You are validated: If you are a corper, you are known and respected by people – for example, police will not randomly stop you and interrogate you or search your car. Just tell them you are a corper and prove it with your ID card.
  • Federal immunity: This privilege means that people who have completed the NYSC course can enter special places where ordinary people without a certificate cannot (in some cases it can even be dangerous for them as they can be kicked out by the police or owners). With the NYSC documentation, you can safely enter these areas.
  • Respect: Yes, this aspect was already mentioned – those who have National Service certificate are generally more respected in Nigeria than those who don't.
  • Jobs: It is quite difficult to get a respectable job if you don't have the NYSC certificate. In most cases, people who have it successfully get well-paid jobs.
  • Mental side: Nigerians who have undergone the “school of life” offered to them by the National Youth Service Corps development program usually come out of the corps mentally tougher and physically stronger. It is a real help when it comes to searching for jobs and later in life whenever situation seems hopeless and desperate. The society needs more mentally strong youngsters to develop the nation’s spirit in general, so this factor is actually more important than you may think.
  • Socialization: The program unites people from all over Nigeria, no matter what their social, religious or ethnic background is. The scheme of NYSC helps people to unite and make new freinds. Besides, the various connections definitely would useful to you later in life – you never know who may help you when you are in need.
NYSC in Nigeria

Disadvantages:

  • Scheme: Sometimes young people complain that the current scheme of NYSC should be better developed because in the state it is now the country just seems to waste their resources and time. Some of the youngsters are put into situations totally foreign to them which actually would not have any use in the future. As a result, the certificate has become more important to the young people than the spirit of national service.
  • The lack of insurance: This matter is a big problem for those who are planning on participating in the NYSC – there is no good scheme of insurance for them, and many graduates want the government should develop it as soon as possible.
  • No guarantees regarding jobs: Surely those who have done NYSC are more likely to find a prestigious or just decent job, however, there is no definite guarantee for this. People mostly only find good jobs when they thoroughly search on their own.
  • NYSC certificate importance: It was already mentioned that the actual paper is given more attention than the skills of the employee when the graduates start working, and people with the certificate are just treated better in general.
NYSC youth performing their duties

Partaking in the NYSC program in Nigeria and getting the certificate surely brings more good sides than bad, and the majority of Nigerian youths possess the knowledge of how important and significant the course is for them. Even though the program needs improvement and development, it is a great part of the country’s culture and history. There are those who still agree that their NYSC course was an adventure of a lifetime.

Jason Njoku

Jason Njoku

Jason Njoku is truly one of the most inspiring entrepreneurs in Nigeria. He was born in Great Britain and his life is a perfect example of how difficulties roads can lead to beautiful destinations. Njoku’s first business was a students magazine with an ambiguous name “Brash”. Despite his youthful enthusiasm and ambitions, this venture turned out to be a total failure. After that, Jason tried to build up another news portal called “Roll On Friday”. And again, he faced failure — “Roll On Friday” worked for two years and closed down. Njoku tried his hands in sales just to pay his bills and keep food on his table, but he never forgot his ambitions.

IrokoTV main page

Jason finally found his business breakthrough in the Nigerian Movie Industry. Who is the father of nationalist movement in Nigeria?

Career path

The first Nigerian nationalist, Macaulay, returned to Lagos in the autumn of 1893. He became a surveyor and collaborated with the colonial service until 1898 when he left the post due to his dissatisfaction with the western impact on Nigeria. The land no longer had its customs and culture, and had become a European colony in everything except the name.

Some authors also mentioned several service accusations and disputes in their works concerning Herbert Macaulay; the colonial government noted that Macaulay's actions were not always fair. It is believed that he helped his friends get dirty money, used false names to obtain grants and then received profits from sales he carried out.

In 1898, he was granted a license of a surveyor for private work. In the sphere of his interests were E.J. Alex Taylor's house, Henry Carr's residence, Akinola Maja's house and Doherty villa.

Herbert Macaulay - father of nationalist movement in Nigeria

The development of nationalist movement in Nigeria

At first, Macaulay had moderate views on European colonial policies. However, at the end of the 19th century, he sacrificed his position in society and his professional career in order to defend the interests of his compatriots. He defended the aborigines and opposed slave trade, so in no time he was leading the nationalist movement in Nigeria and obtained the loyalty of the masses.

Up until his nationalist movement began, Lagos was divided into groups. Each part of the society communicated with representatives of its hierarchical level and poor people despised their privileged neighbors. However, Macaulay managed to unite all the indigenous Nigerians to achieve common interests.

Throughout his later life, he actively opposed the colonial power. Representatives of the European administration claimed that they act in the best interests of the indigenous population. Macaulay understood that "the interests of Nigerians" are nothing more than filling British pockets at the expense of the aborigines.

father of nationalist movement in Nigeria

In 1908, he turned public attention to European corruption and how representatives of the government unfairly disposed of the finances of the railway.

In 1919, he dragged the issue of the land occupied by colonists before the London Privy Council. As a result, the European masters paid monetary compensation to local chiefs.

In 1909, he expressed a public protest about the prohibition of alcohol consumption by the Nigerian population. He believed that such a measure would reduce government revenues and lead to higher taxes.

From 1900 to 1930, he confronted the European authorities on a number of issues that were of great importance to the inhabitants of Lagos including water supply, the Oba of Lagos and the central mosque. Macaulay believed that the colonial authorities set taxes that were too high on water supply without providing sufficient grounds for this.

He spoke in defense of the House of Docemo, the ruler of Lagos who could not exercise his traditional powers in accordance to his high office. Many of his rights were abolished by Europeans. Macaulay provided support to the House of Docemo in defending the Lagos lands. He encouraged the indigenous leaders to fight against colonial influence.

the father of the nationalist movement

The authority of Macaulay in Lagos increased after the incident with Tijani Oluwa lands. The colonists wanted to forcibly buy the family land of the traditional ruler in Apapa without providing any compensation. The case should have been examined in the London Privy Court Council. Macaulay served as private secretary when Oluwa went to England; he also had the support of the Oba and Ilu Committee, who also sought to protect their family lands.

The colonial authorities considered Macaulay's statements as opposing their goals. In 1920, Eshugbayi Eleko was ostracized because he supported Macaulay's statements voiced in London.

Macaulay created his own news platform, Daily News, to promote his political views. He described the situation between the House of Docemo and the British government. He also had an article about Henry Carr where was written that he must go.

During the period of 1923-1938, many political issues in Nigeria were resolved with Macaulay's direct participation. He had considerable influence and was a prominent figure in the state, he also participated in making decisions concerning the issues of elections and the appointment of leading government positions.

In addition to his political influence, he was actively involved in interactions with the women's association of Lagos. He also got on well with the uneducated population. His opinions were shared by both non-privileged Nigerians and the higher elite. He publicly protested against Henry Carr and some other opponents.

On June 24, 1923, Macaulay established a democratic organisation - NNDP; it was a full-fledged political party that achieved success in the elections of 1923, 1928 and 1933. Also, its representatives nominated candidates for the legislative council. NNDP became the basis of the democratic movement in Nigeria. The indigenous population was able to take a more active part in economic changes, social life, and the development of the educational sphere. Although, Macaulay's desire to fully control the party somewhat limited its growth.

the nationalist movement in Nigeria

In 1946, when Macaulay was at Kano, his health deteriorated. He left this world at the age of 81 after he returned to Lagos.

We hope that learning about the father of nationalism in Nigeria was interesting to you. It is impossible to deny his significant contribution to the formation of various national ideas in the country. Always remember the heroes of your homeland and honor their memories.

Useful tips for natural treatment of pelvic inflammatory disease

$

Pelvic inflammatory disease is a common problem for women (more than half of the patients who visit gynecologist are suffering from PID); it is an infection of the fallopian tubes, which results in an inflammation that could affect the ovaries. The pus formed as a result of the inflammation destroys the ovaries and causes severe pains and even infertility. It is better treated as soon as it develops, if it has reached extreme levels, one has to visit their doctor as soon as possible; however, in the early stages or for preventive purposes, it is possible to treat it naturally.

Pelvic inflammatory disease treatment naturally

PID mainly develops in adult females and does not usually affect men because of their anatomical features, however, the transmission of venereal infections can cause its pathology. If a woman has PID, her partner should also go for a checkup. Before we go into the natural treatment of PID, let us talk briefly about its causes and symptoms.

Causes

PID can be caused by several pathogens (cocci, chlamydia, intestinal and tubercle bacilli, fungi). They penetrate the fallopian tubes through the uterus and sometimes the infection pathway can flow through the blood and intestines (right-sided PID may develop). In the first case, PID could arise due to negligence in operations (scraping of the uterus, abortion, use of a spiral). Viruses and bacteria can also be contacted during intimate contacts or due to improper personal hygiene.

Pelvic inflammatory disease

Symptoms

Symptoms of PID include pain in the lower back and abdomen, elevated temperature (38-39º), chills, bloating and problems with urination. Chronic PID is accompanied by secretions and irregular monthly cycles; acute PID causes deterioration of the general health condition of women, its symptoms are similar to those of food poisoning (nausea, vomiting, lack of appetite, dizziness and weakness). In acute PID, pain occurs unexpectedly and abruptly, while in chronic PID its appearance is associated with menstruation or intimate contact.

There is a risk of confusing signs of PID with appendicitis, cystitis or stones in the urethra. Therefore, the underlying symptom is continuous secretions (purulent or foamy-purulent).

Pelvic inflammatory

Classical pelvic inflammatory disease treatment

Laboratory tests can be used to identify inflammatory pathogens and antimicrobial agents and pain medications or physiotherapy could be prescribed to ease the situation.

Acute PID treatment begins with complete rest and ice on the abdomen. Lydase injection is used to eliminate the adhesions in the ovaries. Anti-inflammatory tampons are also inserted to help the woman heal.

If all of the above actions do not treat the the disease, an operation would have to be carried out to remove the tubes (for bilateral PID) or only the affected tube.

Natural treatment of PID

Certain natural treatments for PID are effective in close cooperation with classical medicine. Completely neglecting the latter could put a woman at risk of developing concomitant diseases (cystitis, colitis, infertility and ectopic pregnancy). Applying natural treatment of PID in combination with medical treatments will significantly speed up the healing process and help prevent complications.

Natural treatments of PID, in general, can be divided into three categories: baths, douching and drinking of decoctions or juices.

1. Clay baths

Place a very liquid clay solution in a capacious pelvis or bath. Dip your hands into the mixture for 20 minutes, then repeat the procedure with the soles of your feet. Dispose of the solution after the third use. Repeat the bath every 3-4 days.

If natural conditions and weather (warm season) allow, you can fully immerse yourself in the clay bath solution, with the exception of the head. To do this, excavate a large pit in the ground, fill it with warm water and high-quality clay; your mixture should be light in mass. Soak yourself in the bath for 30 minutes to 1 hour.

clay bath

At the end of the procedure, wrap yourself up immediately, drink the herbal infusion and go to bed. The procedure can be repeated once in 3 - 4 days. The clay mixture should be changed after 7 uses.

Clay baths are especially recommended for women with chronic bilateral PID.

2. Herbal baths

To prepare this herbal bath, simply place berries and stems of juniper (50 grams) in a bucket of boiled water and leave it to infuse for 2 hours, then strain the mixture and take a bath with it.

If you cannot get junipers for this bath, you can use cabbages instead which are sold in almost every grocery store. For this recipe, simply boil fresh cabbage leaves in milk. The entire mixture should be poured into a bucket and placed under a chair with a hole cut in the middle. The woman then sits down on the seat and takes a steam bath.

cabbage

Seated steam baths can be carried out with the decoction of forest hay, sheep's wool (unwashed) put into hot water or boiled radish mixed with olive oil. A single rule for all steam baths is daily application until the inflammation disappears completely.

3. Douching with herbal remedies

In order to remove the inflammation, folk medicine recommends douching with decoctions. Alternatively, you can use tampons soaked in a decoction. Always remember that the mixtures are most effective when hot.

For this purpose, you can use the bark of forest oak, chamomile flowers, nettle leaves and some other plants thoroughly mixed together. You need to take 2 tablespoons of the mixture, add them to a liter of water and boil for 15 minutes.

4. Herbal tea

To make a herbal tea, mix equal parts of chamomile and marigold thoroughly. Scoop 2 tablespoons of the mixture into 0.5 liter of boiling water and let it sit for 2 hours. Drink 1/3 cup of this tea 6 times a day (before or between meals). Continue the process for 2 months.

Herbal tea

5. Fresh juices

It is recommended to drink the juice of one potato daily. Such a drink should be taken on an empty stomach and must be thoroughly shaken.

A tastier alternative is pumpkin juice. The dosage and time of usage are not limited (try to drink pumpkin juice and eat the dishes of this product as often as possible).

You can also try drinking nettle juice. Simply squeeze fresh nettle leaves through a gauze or sieve and dilute a teaspoon of the juice in 0.25 glass of water. Drink the solution 20 minutes before breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Prevention

Every woman must know that abortion and the use of a spiral increases the risk of purulent PID. The less you interfere with the uterus, the less likely it is for unilateral or bilateral PID to occur.

Negligence in choosing a partner also increases the possibility of the emergence of chronic bilateral PID, since they could be the carrier of the infection.

It is is advisable for women to drink curdled milk often. This product significantly reduces the risk of chronic bilateral PID and other inflammatory processes.

Happy woman

Whichever method of treatment is chosen, a woman should completely refrain from intimate relations during the therapy. The correct education of girls from a young age (observance of hygiene of the reproductive organs, the instillation of standards of matrimonial fidelity and the observance of chastity before marriage) can prevent them from permanently becoming regular patients of gynecologists and protect them from PID.

Wife of former PDP chairman's son is not guilty, not yet by George Onmonya Daniel (opinion)

Editor's note: Over the weekend Nigerians read the shocking story of how Bilyamin Bello, the son of former PDP chairman was allegedly stabbed to death by his wife, Maryam Sanda the daughter of former Aso Savings Bank boss.

George Onmonya Daniel in this piece says Maryam is not yet guilty until proper investigations are carried out on the case.

Most of these social media people out of the little they read on Facebook have concluded that the woman should be hanged. She killed her husband, she stabbed him severally, some even said he was stabbed in his private part.

Ok, I am not saying she is innocent. If she really stabbed him and he died of the wounds then she killed him. I am saying 'if' because this morning I read that the statement she wrote at the police station was different from the Facebook narrative of events that unfolded.

READ ALSO: Buhari mourns ex-Vice President Ekwueme

Ok, some say evidence may have been tempered with. We will leave that to the police. But to conduct a thorough investigation whether privately or by the police, we need more than Facebook lawyers and judges.

I am a fan of Crime and Investigation (CI) on DSTV, and one of my favourite programmes there is WOMEN THAT KILL. What I know is that nothing seem as it is in these episodes until you deeply search through the rubble of human emotion, mental health and lifestyle.

I have seen the killer pronounced innocent many times based on circumstances surrounding the case. Some of the victims asked for it and have asked for it for a very long time. In the end they end up getting what they ask for.

I have seen many cases my brothers and sisters. I am not relating them to this Nigerian case. Don't get me wrong. All I am saying is that you don't just read two passages on social media about someone killing someone and sentence the killer guilty.

It is quite sad but from these pictures I want to believe they had their moments before things turned upside down.

He said the party had never entertained fear of failure, saying it was the confidence and trust it had in God that gave it the victory.

"Some people had said that the election would mark the end of APGA, and that we would pack our bags and baggage and disappear from the political scene. But all I simply told them is if God agrees.

"It was the contributions of the opposition that helped us to win because if they had not challenged us the way they did, probably we wouldn't have put in much effort as we did," he added.

“Daniel Ford’s sole director is Adeyemi Edun, UK company records show. He has been seen on the TV series offering advice on buying and renovating flats.

“Documents show that Mr Edun has acted for the controversial Mrs. Alison-Madueke who was Nigeria’s oil minister from 2010 to 2015, the first female president of the OPEC oil cartel and a former executive for Shell in Nigeria.

“The Cambridge-educated politician has faced investigations in the UK, US and Nigeria for allegedly receiving lucrative kickbacks for oil deals she sanctioned as a minister,” the report said.

The report quotes US court papers as saying Daniel Ford ‘assisted in the purchase’ of three London properties linked to the probe of the former minister, who served under Goodluck Jonathan.

According to a statement by Garba Shehu his senior special assistant on media and publicity, President Buhari emphasized the determination of his administration to speed up the improvement of aviation infrastructure in the country for the benefit of the country’s economic development.

He stated this while receiving the President of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Muyiwa Aliu, at the State House, Abuja.

President Buhari declared his total support and commitment to work with regulatory agencies in the aviation sector to make air travel safer throughout the country.

The president, who received three awards recently won by Nigeria from ICAO, expressed delight with the high ranking accorded Nigeria in safety and security at the airports, following measures put in place to address gaps in airport security.

“I equally support a national airline for both patriotic and economic reasons. We have enough trained citizens including pilots and engineers. But Nigerians need to know how we lost the one we had before,” he said, referring to the defunct Nigeria Airways.

The Minister of State, Aviation, Hadi Sirika, who led the ICAO delegation, informed President Buhari that the Nigeria was hosting the meeting of International World Aviation Forum in Abuja starting on Tuesday, the first time such conference will hold anywhere outside Montreal, Canada.

He said over 40 aviation ministers and representatives from 70 countries, the World Bank, African Development Bank, manufacturers of planes and aviation equipment will attend this year’s conference focusing on “Financing Development of Aviation Infrastructure.”

The president of ICAO, who is a Nigerian, commended President Buhari for fast-tracking policy initiatives that changed the fortunes of air travel in Nigeria, describing the reconstruction of the runway at the Abuja airport as a rare feat.

On behalf of the ICAO, Mr Aliu presented a certificate of recognition of the School of Aviation, Zaria as a regional center of excellence; the certification of both Abuja and Lagos airports which have attained ICAO standards for the first time in history, and another certificate marking the attainment of the International Organization for Standardization ISO 9001, 2015 by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency.

- The Presidency has said that the process for return of $321m looted money will be finalised in December

- A presidential aide, Juliet Ibekaku said before now, Nigeria had no agreement or memorandum of understanding with foreign countries for the return of looted money

- She said that Nigerian government had recovered part of the Malabu fund held by the UK courts

The Presidency has said that Nigerian government is concluding plans, latest by December this year, with the Switzerland government for the repatriation of $321m looted from Nigeria.

NAIJ.com gathered that that the senior special assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on justice reforms, Juliet Ibekaku, made the disclosure on Monday, November 20, at the conversation on anti-corruption campaign organised by the Centre for Democratic Development in Abuja.

She said that before now, Nigeria had no agreement or memoranda of understanding with foreign countries for the return of looted money.

The development she said necessitated why it took Nigeria awhile to initiate the process of discussion and recovery at the international level.

“So far, we have recovered part of the Malabu fund held by the UK courts.

“We are also working to finalise the process for the return of $321m and by December, we are going to sign the MoU for the return of the money held in Switzerland.

“I am happy to also note here that some civil society organisations working in the area of asset recovery were involved in the negotiation of the MoU and will be involved in monitoring the assets.

“This is to ensure that the returned funds are managed in a transparent manner as other recovery plans continue in countries like UK, Island of Jersey and France,’’ she said.

Ibekaku said that the federal government had also opened up discussion with the US government for the return of the money that left that country for two or three years from 2013.

The Presidential aide said that an example of such money was the Diepreye Alamieyeseigha’s money, adding that different fronts were being opened up for the recovery of the money.

She said that the money recovery mission was hinged on the Open Government Partnership Initiative which was committed to four thematic areas: Transparency, Anti-corruption, Access to information, Citizen Engagement and Empowerment.

She said the government had set up one asset recovery account which made it easy for anybody that wanted to track recovered money to know where the money was going to.

According to her, this put to rest worry by Nigerians over the whereabouts of the recovered money, thinking the money was not being accounted for or managed properly.

Ibekaku said that over the years, it was identified that there was a problem with the management of recovered money, both domestically and internationally, because there was no way to account for it.

She said that when this administration came to power, the president set up a presidential assets recovery committee to monitor what was going on with recovered assets from the agencies.

Ibekaku said that the presidential committee, in turn, set the Assets Tracing subcommittee, adding that work was ongoing to determine where this money went as from 2012.

She said that the administration also created a central account in the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), called the Asset Recovery Account.

The presidential aide said the president also directed all the law enforcement agencies to put all recovered money in the central account.

Ibekaku said that the president also directed that asset recovery should now be ploughed into the budget to fund part of it, starting from 2017 “so that is what the money is being used for.

She said all the money being recovered by anti-corruption agencies would go into such to fund part of the budget.

The executive director of CDD, Idayat Hassan, said that the event was organized with support from the Open Society Initiative for West Africa and the Department for International Development.

According to her, the event is getting answers to some questions on the recovered money.

Hassain said that it was obvious that tackling corruption remained one of President Buhari’s main priorities.

She said it was in line with the presidents’ vision that the event was organised, to provide a platform for constructive review and interrogate government’s approach to anti-graft campaign.

The executive director said the platform also sought to proffer alternative opinions for robust, effective and sustained interventions in the anti-corruption fight and effective usage of the recovered money.
