The presidential campaign council of All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied any plan by the federal government to jam networks during the presidential election as was earlier reported by some media.

The council also urged Nigerians to come out and vote for President Muhammadu Buhari during the election.

In a statement made available to Legit.ng in the evening of Thursday, February 14, by Festus Keyamo, its spokesperson, the council accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of being behind the claim.

Our attention has been drawn to a story in Sahara Reporters titled ‘DOSSIER: owned by Amaechi’s friend – everything you need to know about HSLI, the Israeli company hired to jam the networks during elections’.

Whilst the story is full of half-truths and outright lies, the portion that concerns us at the campaign council is the allegation that the networks would be jammed on Saturday by the said Israeli company. The story claims that the Israeli company has links with the minister of transportation, Rt Hon Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi and one of our directors of logistics in the campaign organisation, Alhaji Nasiru Danu (The Dana Armana Dutse).

This is nothing but a figment of the imagination of the PDP, the obvious sponsors of the story. We have warned a few days ago of a series of fake news lined up by the PDP and Atiku’s campaign team in the last days leading up to the elections. This is obviously one of them.

The striking thing about all the false alarms raised by the PDP about this election is that they are obviously judging others by their own standards. This is a party notorious for all that was politically obscene and immoral when they were in power. From writing election results to ballot box-stuffing, ballot box-snatching and hooliganism during elections – Nigerians saw it all. So, this latest pontifications by the PDP about a plan to rig the election is obviously symptomatic of a man looking at the mirror.

We re-iterate it for the umpteenth time that the PDP is not ready for peaceful elections. It is said that it is a person that cannot win a civil argument that resorts to a fight. PDP has lost all the arguments during this election and have also lost the demographic projections, so they are ready to destroy the process.

For instance, the whole edifice of their campaign came crashing down two days ago when the NBS figures showed that our GDP is on a steady rise. For a party that say they want to “get Nigeria working again”, it is now obvious that PDP campaign theme has no meaning because Nigeria is already working as our latest NBS figures show. The significant thing is that Nigeria is now working for all and not just for a few.

With this latest economic news, we want to use this opportunity to appeal to Nigerians to be firm and resolute about refusing to trade the obviously successful recovery plan of this administration for empty promises by the PDP. Nigerians must also reject the candidate of the PDP who is an expert at enriching himself, his friends and cronies with public resources.

The funny thing is, the PDP fails to realize that the hunger and poverty they are screaming about was hatched, developed and promoted between 2009 and 2014 when they failed to save or build critical infrastructure as oil prices soared to an all-time high. Shockingly, it was during this same period that ‘extreme poverty’ grew from 89 million to 112 million. In addition, according to UNICEF, out-of-school children grew from 10.5 million in 2010 to 13.2 million in 2015.

As we reach the end of the campaign season, Nigerians should be reminded that this is an election like no other. It is a vote to:

- continue to grow our economy so Nigerians can continue to prosper.

- build more critical infrastructure that will improve the ease of doing business for entrepreneurs and create the required private and public sector jobs.

- intensify the Social Investment Programmes that are pulling more Nigerians out of poverty and keeping our children in school.

- deepen the fight against corruption and the grand theft of our common wealth by a few.

- further secure the lives and properties of Nigerians wherever they are in the country.

- improve our health care and education system.

We ask Nigerians to go out this Saturday, the 16th of February, 2019, and cast their votes decisively for President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

Legit.ng earlier reported how a former governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose, raised the alarm over an alleged plot by the APC-led federal government to jam all telecommunications networks from 5am on Saturday, February 16, till 5pm on Sunday, February 17, thus making it impossible for the use of internet and phone calls during the presidential and National Assembly elections.
