A former governor of Oyo state, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, on Sunday, December 2, officially dumped African Democratic Congress (ADC) for Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).
Daily Trust reports that the name of a former secretary to the state government, Alhaji Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, was on Saturday, December 1, sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the party’s new gubernatorial candidate to meet the commission’s deadline for substitution of candidates’ names.
Legit.ng gathered that Alli, a grassroots politician, was the first elected local government chairman in Ibadan north at age 28.

A close associate of the former governor, Bimbo Adepoju, told reporters that Ladoja had instructed him to address reporters on his movement to ZLP.
Speaking on his grouse with the leaders of ADC, the former governor told Daily Trust last week that the leadership of the party was not serious about winning elections in the state.
He said the ADC leadership was not magnanimous about sharing of positions, pointing out that the people of Oke Ogun and Ibarapa zone would feel cheated with the current arrangement in the party.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that a former governor of Oyo state, Rashidi Ladoja, formally announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a ceremony witnessed by his associates and loyalists at his residence in Ibadan on Friday, August 3, the former governor said the national leadership of PDP was unfair to him despite his genuine intention to return to the party he jointly built and on whose ticket he governed the state between 2003-2007.

He had said that the efforts and sacrifices he made to stabilise the PDP in the state and in the country went unrecognized as the party leadership sidelined him in drawing up lists of candidates for ward, local government and state congresses.
