Legal committee withdraws lawyer’s nomination for SAN 4 days to swearing-in

- The Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee (LPPC) accuses a lawyer, Ikhide Ehighelua, of knowingly engaging in gross abuse of court process

- The committee says the lawyer conducted himself in a manner which is clearly in contravention with the provisions of guidelines of the conferment of Senior Advocate of Nigeria

A lawyer, Ikhide Ehighelua, has been withdrawn from the nomination of the coveted rank of the Senior Advocate of Nigeria by the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC).

The committee also barred Ehighelua from applying for the rank of senior lawyer for the next five years starting from 2019, The Punch reports.

The legal body disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday, September 20, that it took the decision following a petition accusing Ehighelua of obtaining an ex parte order of interim injunction in a manner that violated the guidelines for the conferment of SAN rank.

The chief registrar of the Supreme Court and secretary to the committee, Hadizatu Mustapha, said the lawyer of was found to have knowingly engaged in gross abuse of court process in relation to obtaining the interim court order.

“That Ikhide Ehighelua Esquire being an officer in the temple of justice and an aspirant to the exalted position of Senior Advocate of Nigeria has conducted himself in a manner which is clearly in contravention with the provisions of paragraph 22(2) (a) & (c) and 23(a),(b),(c)& (d) of the 2018 Guidelines of the Conferment of Senior Advocate of Nigeria,” the LPPC stated.

In another report, the inspector general of police Ibrahim Idris and and men of the IGP monitoring unit have been dragged before a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos over alleged invasion, unlawful arrests and detention of some residents.

Vanguard reports that the defendants were dragged before the court by residents of Millennium Citi Centre Estate in Gbagada.

NAIJ.com gathers that the residents are demanding N250 million as damages from the defendants.
