Saraki accuses APC ministers, governors of paying alleged 'budget padding' protesters

- Bukola Saraki has accused ministers and governors of sponsoring National Assembly protesters

- The Senate president said the ministers and these governors are in the same ruling APC

- He also urged President Muhammadu Buhari to investigate the matter

The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday, July 3, indicted governors, ministers over the growing number of protesters at the National Assembly over alleged budget padding and killings in Nigeria.

At the plenary on Tuesday, the Senate president, Bukola Saraki, said the protesters who stormed the National Assembly to protest an alleged padding of the budget by the lawmakers are being paid by some governors and ministers.

Saraki said the ministers and these governors are in the same ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) party.

The Senate president said: "There is no secret in this. If you go out there, those boys will tell you who the minister or the governor they are collecting the money from. And these are ministers that we are in the same ruling party.”

He also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to investigate the matter and call all those involved in hiring the protesters to order.

“I think that Mr. President needs to investigate this and call to order those involved," Saraki said.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that some protesters, on Tuesday, July 3, stormed the National Assembly.

The protesters who blocked the main entrance protested against the alleged increase and introduction of new projects into the 2018 budget.

The alleged padding was said to have been done by the legislative arm of government and President Muhammadu Buhari reportedly lamented while signing the budget.
