Argentina legend Diego Maradona has urged Brazil star Neymar to stop diving.

The Paris Saint Germain forward scored his side's opening goal during their 2-0 victory over Mexico in their round of 16 encounter.

They will now face Belgium in the next stage of the championship, but the 1986 World Cup winner feels diving at every opportunity will give him a bad reputation.

"Neymar is a star player too. He is still lacking something but he is a star," Maradona was quoted by the Sun after the match.

"He has to know that today diving is a yellow card and VAR exists.

"He already had one taken away against Costa Rica. Neymar has to change the 'chip' in his head a little bit."

The 57-year-old believes Cristiano Ronaldo remains a top star despite his failure to help portugal reach the quarterfinals of this championship.

Fernando Santos' men were ousted of this year's competition by Uruguay in their round of 16 clash.

"Well, that is a silly questions because he is clearly a star player. He truly is, there is no doubt.

"If Cristiano has to stay at Real Madrid or not he has to decide, I am not getting involved in that.
