The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons has disclosed that there are over 21,000 Cameroonian refugees currently in Cross River state, who fled the crisis between their country’s government and separatists fighting for independence in Southern Cameroon.
The development was made public by the Commission’s federal commissioner, Ayasanya Akintunde, over the weekend, Vanguard reports.

NAIJ.com gathers that the commissioner said that the refugees have taken refuge in various areas of the south-south state; including Ikom, Etung, Akampka, Boki and Obanlikwu.
The state government is catering for them; alongside the United Nations High Commission for Refugees, donor agencies and philanthropic organisations.
Akintunde stated: “Millions of people are displaced all over the world because of conflicts in their countries and Nigeria is playing host to about 21,000 refugees from neighbouring Cameroon Republic, and we hope that the crisis will be resolved timely to enable the refugees return home.”

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that the federal government announced plans to begin the voluntary repatriation of more than 91,000 Nigerian refugees from Cameroon in July.
The development was made public by the federal commissioner, National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), Sadiya Farouk.
Farouk disclosed that a tripartite agreement to work our modalities for the scheduled repatriations had been signed by Nigeria, Cameroon and the UNHCR.
