If you are a car enthusiast, you have probably heard about the Sultan of Brunei cars collection. If not, then please let us introduce you to one of the biggest collections of exclusive and rare vehicles in the world!

The many cars of Hassanal Bolkiah
Many extremely wealthy people enjoy spending money on some extremely expensive cars. Sultan of Brunei Hassanal Bolkiah is no exception. He and his brother Jefri spent decades on creating a collection of cars, which has since become known to millions of people.
Almost every car in this collection is either custom-made or one of the rarest models in existence. According to various reports, the size of this collection is speculated to be from 2,000 to the whopping 7,000 cars. The amount has also changed overtime, as Sultan and his brother bought new cars and sold some of the old ones.

Among this collection, one could find hundreds of Ferraris, Jaguars, Porsches, Mercedes, Lamborghinis, as well as many other luxurious brands. A big chunk of his cars are painted yellow, as it is Hassanal’s favourite colour. Many cars, even the rarest ones, are presented in different colours and modifications, so the garage looks almost like a toy store full of brightly coloured toy cars except, each of these toys is worth millions.

As for the Sultan of Brunei gold cars, we are certain that he has a few, but the one we know about for sure is his Rolls Royce covered in 24-karat gold. It is said that this particular car cost him $14 million, no big deal.
Over the years, many people have tried to list down all the cars in possession of the Sultan. If you are interested to learn more, you can click here or here to see the specific car models or even take part in the discussion.
Sultan of Brunei cars: list of top 11 rarest cars in his collection

As it would probably take us ages to list all of 2,500-5,000 cars that belong to Sultan of Brunei, we have decided to focus our attention on 11 rarest vehicles that are in his possession. Here are 11 incredibly rare cars that can (or at least could) be found in Hassanal Bolkiah’s garage.

Ferrari FX
This is a modified version of the 512M model, the Sultan reportedly has six of them.

Jaguar XJ220 Pininfarina
It is said that Bolkiah sent a couple of cars of this model back to the design house they came from in order to change their design to his liking.

Aston Martin V8 Vantage Special Series II
He owns three of them, which have all been designed especially for him.

Italdesign BMW Nazca M12
This was initially just a concept design, but Sultan liked it so much he asked Italdesign to create a working model for himself.

Lamborghini Diablo SE30
There are only 150 of them in the whole world, and it is unknown how many are in Bolkiah’s possession.

Mercedes Benz CLK GTR Roadster
This model is one of the rarest in his collection, as there are only six of these in the world, and two of them belong (or at least belonged) to Hassanal.

There were eight of these in Sultans garage, some of which he had to sell.

Cizeta V16t
Out of 11 such cars that exist in the world, three belong to Bolkiah.

Ferrari F40
There are between seven and ten vehicles of this model, and all of them have a steering wheel on the right side, which is unusual for this type of car.

Dauer-Porsche 962
Sultan has at least six iterations of this car in his garage.

Ferrari Mythos
This car was also initially just a prototype until Hassanal decided otherwise and ordered to have two made just for him.
You might be wondering why we wrote ‘could’ at the beginning of this chapter. You can find the explanation below.
The sad fate of the Sultan of Brunei cars collection

You might think that a person with such love for cars would take proper care of them. After all, isn’t this guy a billionaire or something? Well, it turns out that he and his brother only thought about how to acquire the cars and not about what they would do with them afterwards.
A few years ago, Jefri ended up in a big trouble because of his penchant for buying expensive cars, as it plunged his whole family into crisis. Because of that, a large portion of the cars was sold or auctioned off to other wealthy buyers. But there have been issues with the collection even before that.

As Brunei’s tropical climate is not the best thing for large pieces of metal on wheels, it is no wonder that some vehicles have been damaged by the harsh weather conditions over the years. Many cars were reportedly rotting in the garage, which made them rather useless for both the royal family and potential buyers.
Moreover, judging by the pictures of said garage, it was stuffed with cars, which meant that most of them have not been driven for years, if not decades. This pushed their degradation even further.

These days, nobody knows for sure how big the Sultan of Brunei list of cars is. Many are said to be sold or ruined by time and weather. It is incredibly sad that such beautiful vehicles have ended up in such inept hands. Hopefully, the ones that remain are being taken care of.
