Governor Wike faults Okorocha's pardon to cultists

- Governor Wike says the granting of pardon to members of the notorious cultist group behind the New Year Day killing in Rivers state is without impact

- The governor points out that these same cult members are kingpins in the gang of the late Don Waney

- He states that the N20 million bounty placed on the recently pardoned cultists still stands

Nyesom Wike, Rivers state governor, on Tuesday, February 6, slammed Governor Rochas Okorocha for granting amnesty to the cultist gang responsible for the New Year Day killings in Omoku community which claimed the lives of about 23 residents in the state, Channels Television reports.

He said the amnesty granted by the Imo state governor to the cultists will have no impact in his state as the N20 million bounty placed on the cultists by the Rivers state government still stands.

Governor Wike told news men at the government house in Port Harcourt that these same cultists recently pardoned are top members of Don Waney's gang. He stated that these cult member are wanted men in Rivers state.

Earlier, NAIJ.com reported that hundreds of cultists connected to the late cult leader and kidnap kingpin, Ejima Igwedibia also known as Don Waney, surrendered their weapons to the government during a ceremony held at the Heroes Square, Owerri, Imo state on Monday, February 5.

Among the weapons surrendered by the cultists were explosives, rocket launchers and high-calibre rifles such as AK-47.

Before the event, Governor Rochas Okorocha who spoke to journalists at the Government House said he had been busy with several phone calls about the success story that the followers of Don Waney had agreed to handover their arms, describing the development as a healthy one since it was believed that it would ensure lasting peace.
