The council also asked the federal government to refund to the state about N43 billion spent on the rehabilitation of federal roads and bridges in the state, Punch reports.

NAIJ.com gathered that the demand was made in a nine-point communique the council issued at the end of its meeting held at the governor’s lodge in Awka.

The communique partly read: "The present system needs to be restructured to achieve true federalism and guarantee greater unity and political stability in Nigeria."

The council expressed worry over the unwholesome activities of the herdsmen in most parts of the country and recommended commercial ranching “as the best method for meat and dairy production".

It urged the Anambra state government and other southeast state governments to reject President Buhari's proposed cattle colony policy, noting that it would have adverse security implications.

The council congratulated the governor of the state, Governor Willie Obiano and his deputy, Dr Nkem Okeke, on their re-election at the November 18 polls. It expressed confidence that the state would in “the next four years witness productive governance".

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that the president general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, John Nwodo, explained what led to the decision of Igbo leaders to clamour for the restructuring of Nigeria as against breakup.

Nwodo explained that no ethnic group has more stake in the Nigeria project than the Igbo and as such Igbos cannot consider a break up as a viable option, as such decision might affect them gravely.
