- Today, Saturday, November 25 is Alhaji Atiku Abubakar's 71st birthday
- The former vice president is in celebratory mood as well wishes pour in for him from different parts of the world
- The Waziri Adamawa also revealed his most cherished birthday present
Nigeria's former vice president is in celebratory mood today, Saturday, November 25 as he marks his 71st birthday.
The retired Customs officer and one of Nigeria's grounded and well connected politician, has been receiving well wishes from Nigerians and other global citizens.
The Waziri Adamawa also revealed his most cherished birthday present today, which is the news that the university he founded, American University of Nigeria (AUN), graduated 300 pupils on Thursday, November 23.
NAIJ.com gathered that the 300 pupils are beneficiaries of the "feed and read" program, an informal education for out-of-school (Almajiri) children in Adamawa state.
The program had the backing of the European Union in Nigeria, the German government and its Danish counterpart.
Atiku caused a stir in Nigeria's political circles earlier this week when he resigned his membership from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“The party we put in place has failed and continues to fail our people, especially our young people. How can we have a federal cabinet without even one single youth.
“A party that does not take the youth into account is a dying party. The future belongs to young people,” the former vice president said in a statement posted on his Facebook page.
Meanwhile, Lagos-based human rights lawyer, Festus Keyamo, has said the excuse Atiku gave in his widely circulated statement, was not honourable.
Keyamo who made the statement on social media via his verified Twitter page, said the former vice president should have simply admitted that he left the APC in search of another political party's presidential ticket ahead of the 2019 presidential elections.
His words: “The starting point of Atiku’s presidential bid would’ve been to simply admit that he left APC in search of another party ticket. Nigerians know that already.
“It would’ve been more honourable than giving some zigzag reasons to justify his zigzag movements across political parties.”
