President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the nomination of persons that will be part of the committee expected come up with a new minimum wage for workers.

The minister of labour and employment, Chris Ngige, on Thursday, November 2, told reporters that he and the president had cleared those nominated into the committee, The Punch reports.
Ngige however stopped short of disclosing names of membership of the yet-to-be inaugurated committee.
The minister said the committee is structures as a three-party panel and included representatives of the federal and state governments, as well as the private sector.
"The old (minimum wage) law expired last year August and we are now in the process of empaneling a new national minimum wage committee," Ngige said.

“I have cleared the appointments with the President today (Thursday) and as soon as the labour people come back from the Labour Governing Board meeting in Geneva, we will take a consensus date with the governors because it is a tripartite committee involving federal, states and the private sector: NECA, MAN, NACCIMA, SMEs.
“The NLC, TUC and their affiliates have done their nominations. What we are now trying to finetune is the date for inauguration.”
Ngige said the committee would decide whether the N56,000 minimum wage being demanded by workers is achievable.
Meanwhile, Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state has insisted that President Muhammadu Buhari is not entitled to an automatic ticket to contest the 2019 presidential election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Vanguard reports that Okorocha who is the chairman of the APC governors forum however, noted that Buhari could seek the mandate of the party for his re-election as stipulated in the constitution.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, November 2, the governor reportedly advocated for democratic process to be followed in the nomination of APC candidates in all categories of position.
