- A renowned cleric, Prophet Christopher Owolabi has spoken about President Muhammadu Buhari's second term bid

- Prophet Owolabi on Tuesday, January 1, predicted that President Buhari would govern Nigeria beyond 2019

- He, however, urged Nigerians to learn from their past mistakes, misdeeds and shortcoming by embracing righteousness in the new year

A renowned cleric, Prophet Christopher Owolabi, on Tuesday, January 1, predicted that the tenure of the present administration under President Muhammadu Buhari would extend beyond 2019.

Owolabi, general overseer Christ Apostolic Church Ori-Oke, Irapada, Omu-Aran, made the prediction during the Church’s crossover night service tagged: “Seeking for Nigeria’s Democratic Sustenance Beyond 2019” in Omu-Aran, Kwara.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the cleric told the gathering that the prediction was not borne out of any personal or political interest whatsoever, but God’s divine guidance and direction for the country.

He also predicted a rapid socio-economic recovery for the country in the New Year, saying the leaders needed the urgent intercession of the citizens through prayers to consolidate on the gains of the government’s anti-corruption fight.

According to him, “it is based on God’s interest in directing the affairs of the country at this critical period of its history as it is revealed to me.”

Owolabi said election of leaders in the country presently has gone beyond personalities or individuals but through a divine intervention.

He said: “No matter any act of political commission or omission, God is the one presently in control and directing the affairs of the country.”

Owolabi, who was known to have made many predictions as regard the nation’s current affairs including the emergence of Sen. Bukola Saraki as the leader of the 8th Senate, urged politicians to play according to the rules.

He said: “The present leadership in piloting the affairs of this great nation as was revealed to me will extend beyond 2019 and there is going to be a brighter light at the end of the tunnel socially and economically.

The cleric who decried the incessant killings, kidnappings, armed robbery and backbiting that had pervaded the land, urged Nigerians to learn from their past mistakes, misdeeds and shortcoming by embracing righteousness in the New Year.

Owolabi also used the opportunity to advise government to urgently formulate a clear cut policy toward stemming the negative trend associated with social media platforms, especially as it concerned the youthful age bracket.

He said: “It is very glaring that the country is dangerously heading to a halt as far as hate speech, intolerance, religious and ethnic bigotry being perpetrated through social media platform are concerned.

“Such needs to be treated by government as a matter of urgent national importance to move the country forward.”

He urged religious leaders, traditional rulers and parents in the country to use their preachings, counseling and parental advice in ensuring a reliable and productive future for the youths whom are regarded as the leaders of tomorrow.

He said: “The future of our nation depends largely on the readiness and preparedness of our teeming youths in terms of quality educational background, information and technological advancement in taking over the mantle of leadership.

“This to me should be the major preoccupation of our religious leaders, traditional rulers and parents alike.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that the media and publicity department of the State House said it has put together a 58-minute documentary on the efforts of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration in tackling the challenges it met on the ground.

Femi Adesina, the special adviser to the president on media and publicity, announced this in a statement in Abuja on Monday, December 31. According to the presidential aide, the documentary, entitled, ‘FIRST TERM OF PRESIDENT BUHARI: IS CHANGE HERE?’, gives more insight into various attempts by the administration to make Nigeria a better place.

The release of the list is a u-turn from Aisha's threat in a 2016 interview with British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) that she would not support her husband's re-election bid if the alleged stranglehold on his government by some powerful people continued.

Legit.ng had reported recently that Aisha expressed continued dissatisfaction at the way some individuals were frustrating her husband's good intentions towards Nigeria.

She lamented that two powerful personalities were messing up the president's effort to perform and grow the nation beyond how he met it.

Aisha said she was disappointed in men who rather than fight these two men, will go to them in the night begging for favour.

But similarly, in another instance, with less than three months to the 2019 general elections, Aisha in December, 2018, expressed her readiness to support her husband, President Buhari for re-election.

The statement affirming the First Lady's support was contained in a tweet by a pro-Buhari group on Twitter, The Buhari Centre.

The centre is a platform that plays host to various supporters of President Muhammadu Buhari on all social media platforms.

"I want Nigerians to think anew, the daunting task before us is achievable, we can have a brand new Nigeria where we can give our children quality education, where youth unemployment and restiveness can be reduced to near non existence, we can also have quality and affordable private and public health system for our kids, adults and aged ones. - A win for Pep Guardiola's men will help them in the race for the Premier League title

- They are currently seven points behind Liverpool who are topping the EPL standings

Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling has expressed confidence that his club can beat Premier League leaders Liverpool in Thursday's crucial EPL encounter.

But the Englishman added that this can only be possible if his teammates play to their potential against their unbeaten opponents.

''If we can play the way we know we can play, we can beat anyone.

‘'It’s going to be a great game on Thursday and we’re all looking forward to it,'' Sterling explained according to Metro.

Manchester City have suffered two costly defeats in the Premier League, and a lose for them against Liverpool could end their chances of retaining their EPL title.

Liverpool are currently topping the Premier League standings with 54 points after 20 games, while Manchester City are placed second with 47 points.

Previously, Legit.ng had reported how Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola made it clear that it will be hard for his wards to retain their Premier League title if they should suffer a defeat against Liverpool in their next tie.

The Etihad landlords have not been finding it rosy this season in the Premier League losing three games and they are occupying second position with seven points behind leaders Liverpool.

On Sunday, December 30, Manchester City defeated Southampton, and Guardiola said that the title race would have been over if his wards had not beaten their last opponents.

Since the arrival of Maurizio Sarri from Napoli last summer, Luiz has experienced a turn around this season, missing just 90 minutes of Chelsea’s Premier League fixtures so far.

Interestingly, under former boss Antonio Conte the Brazilian centre-back struggled for game time, but Willian is confident the highly-experienced defender will remain in London.

“For sure, of course. I want [him to stay].

“We have to see if they, the club, will want him. I think they want him. For me, I want him to stay,” added Willan, who was repeatedly linked with a switch to Manchester United before Jose Mourinho’s sack.

Chelsea are expected to sign a new striker this January with Sarri eyeing the pair of Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson and AC Milan’s Gonzalo Higuain.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously had reported that Chelsea have surprisingly called off their chase for Real Madrid playmaker Isco after the Spaniard demanded for extra money.

According to a UK Metro report citing Sun, Chelsea and Isco representatives had agreed a £75m deal including add-ons sending the deal to £100m, but the Los Blancos star suddenly demanded for more ‘cash’ after late interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

Isco now faces a tough spell at the Los Blancos as the Santiago Benerbeu dwellers are no longer counting on him in the club’s long-term plans.

The don described Christians as the closest people to Islam but lamented that Nigerians were divided by selfish politicians who hide under religion to achieve personal desires.

He said: “Killing one another is an imaginary life; in the actual sense it doe not exist; we are all created by one God, we must therefore, endeavour to live together in peace with one another.

“We should share joy, happiness and sorrow together. Our leader, Sheik Ibrahim El-Zakzaky said we should learn to live together in peace.

“When we are united as Nigerians, nothing will break us apart and nothing will go against the peace of the nation, not even Boko Haram nor militants or any other thing else.”

Responding, the parish priest, Reverend Father Michael Ibrahim-Bazai, expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as the first of its kind.

He said: “We are happy to receive our brothers and sisters from Islamic faith here in our Church to celebrate with us today on 1st January 2019.

“It is true that sometimes we are scared of each other, this is because some of us are ignorant of the religion but we are all one.”

Ibrahim-Bazai stressed the need for followers of the two religions to always practise their religion according to its tenets to pave way for peaceful and harmonious relationship.

He encouraged the two faiths to respect, accommodate, embrace and tolerate one another towards building a stronger society and by extension, a stronger nation.

The priest lauded the frantic efforts of the movement for rescuing and providing medical treatment to some Christians during religious crises in Zaria and urged them to sustain the tempo.

He sought for consideration of Christians in areas of admission quota, especially in some professional courses in ABU as well as consideration for job vacancies.

The visitors were hosted to a lunch and refreshment at the church premises.

Former Army Chief speaks on Boko Haram insurgency

- A ex-chief of Army staff has cautioned the media over reports on the fight against insurgency in Nigeria

- Alani Akinrinade said the media should be involved in information gathering for the military

- According to him, the irreparable loss of troops, lives and property has been the hallmark of citizens' lives in the past few years

A former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Alani Akinrinade added his voice to the ongoing fight against Boko Haram insurgency in the northeast.

Akinrinade also cautioned the media on false reports on happenings in the war against Boko Haram insurgency.

Speaking during the 81 Division West African Social Activities (WASA), at the 65 Battalion parade ground Akinrinade said the exaggerated and sometimes entirely fabricated falsehood on the social media and the possible repercussion on the morale of our troops are incalculable.

The former Army Chief also urged the Nigerian military to persuade the media to go to the front lines, to have first-hand information on activities in the northeast.

According to him, the media can be persuaded to have some of their experienced field operators to be attached to some of the forward headquarters.

He said such efforts can provide the Nigerian military with authentic information as to happenings on the front-lines and reduce the mischief that is pervasive on the social media.

Akinrinade said: “I salute you all for the efforts you have exerted.

”I believe I speak for all our citizens when I say we recognise and lament the irreparable losses in both military and civilian lives and property. That  has been the hallmark of our lives in the past few years.

“Our hearts go out, especially during this festive season, to our men and women on Operation Lafiya Dole.

“I know the feeling, having spent three consecutive Yuletides in the swamps, mangrove and creeks of our country and the disparities then were not as stark as today," Akinrinade said.

Also speaking, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Musa Yusuf, explained that WASA was aimed at celebrating the end of a successful operational year.

Yusuf said: “It is in keeping with this age-long tradition that we are here gathered today to witness yet another WASA."

“There is no doubt that 2018 was characterised by numerous security challenges, such as insurgency, farmers/herders clash, kidnappings, armed robbery, pipeline vandalism and other criminality.

“To overcome these challenges, the division requires a high degree of professionalism by personnel which is achieved through realistic training.

“In this direction, 81 Division has conducted and implemented all training activities consistent with the vision of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and in line with the Nigerian Army Training Directives," Yusuf added.

He said the division would redouble it efforts toward ensuring that troops were adequately given mission and specific training.

The GOC said this was necessary, especially in anticipation of likely tasks the Division would be expected to carry out in the conduct of the 2019 general elections.

“I, therefore, urge all personnel to remain focused, professional and apolitical in carrying out their constitutional duties during the elections,” he said.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that residents of the northeast have commended troops of the Nigerian Army fighting Boko Haram over their efforts to keep the country safe.

A civil society organization, the North East Coalition against Terrorism (NECAT) said the gallantry displayed by the military in the ongoing military operations in northeast Nigeria and other parts of the country is worthy of commendation.

Speaking on behalf of the group, the secretary general of NECAT, Nasir Babagana, said the Nigerian military has indeed displayed commitment to protecting the territorial integrity of Nigeria as against what some mischief makers want members of the unsuspecting public to believe.
