- Some chieftains of PDP in Imo state on Wednesday, August 15, fought over former vice president Atiku Abubakar's visit to the state

- Atiku was in the state over his 2019 presidential ambition

- But the former minister of aviation, Kema Chikwe, and others engaged a PDP BoT member, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, in shouting match after his closed-door meeting Atiku

Some chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) including former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Chief Emeka Ihedioha, the former minister of aviation, Kema Chikwe, member of House of Representatives, Jones Onyereri, on Wednesday, August 15, clashed at the glass house office of PDP Board of Trustee (BoT) member, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, over the visit of former vice president Atiku Abubakar.

NAIJ.com gathered that Kema was particularly furious over Iwuanyanwu’s demand, describing it as embarrassing and selfish.

According to her, Atiku was in the state to consult with PDP members and should not be hijacked by anybody.

Shortly after the fracas which lasted for over 30 minutes, Ihedioha, Kema, Onyereri and their supporters stormed out of the meeting. All efforts to placate them by Atiku were abortive.

Meanwhile, Atiku told journalists that the desire to move Nigeria forward has sustained his desire to be the president of Nigeria.

The ex-vice president who came in the company of the director general of his campaign organization and former governor of Ogun state, Gbenga Daniel and other members of his campaign team, said that he had the solution to the litany of challenges confronting the country .

According to him, “patriotism is the key thing; it is the thing propelling my presidential ambition. I want to move Nigeria forward; patriotism is needed to move Nigeria forward.”

He said he was in the state to consult the leadership of PDP in the state ahead of the party’s presidential primary.

Responding, Iwuanyanywu said that he would not retire from politics until Atiku became president.

The elder statesman stated that the country was in dire need of a leader like Atiku to develop the country.

Iwuanyanywu said: “I will not retire from politics until Atiku Abubakar becomes president. Atiku is the kind of president Nigeria needs. There is poverty in the land because of bad governance supporting Atiku is the best thing to do.

“Igbo has been marginalized in this government and sadly some Igbo people are still supporting Buhari.”

Babangida noted that the party could not afford any crises and advise that the primary election be conducted freely and fairly.

Saraki will win 2019 presidential election - Primate Ayodele predicts

- One of Nigerian popular pastors, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has predicted that Senate president Bukola Saraki would win 2019 presidential election

- Saraki had told Bloomberg that he was considering running against President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019

- Ayodele, however, said that the former vice president Atiku Abubakar might not go far in his presidential ambition

The founder of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has said the Senate president Bukola Saraki would win the 2019 presidential election if he grabs the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Punch reports that he, however, warned that the 2019 election would be tougher than that of 2015.

NAIJ.com gathered that the cleric said he saw storms that period but was quick to add that the country would still survive the period.

READ ALSO: Confusion as Imo PDP chieftains fight over Atiku's visit

He warned that the raging National Assembly crisis might lead to the collapse of democracy in Nigeria if not well handled.

Ayodele spoke on Wednesday, August 15, in Ikere-Ekiti at an empowerment programme he organised in memory of his late father, Elder Olalekan Ayodele, who died 15 years ago.

He donated cash and foodstuff to hundreds of widows and orphans at the event which he said was a means of giving them succour and a sense of belonging.

Ayodele also advised the Ekiti state governor-elect, Kayode Fayemi, to listen to the people for him to succeed in his administration.

He advised the All Progressives Congress (APC) to put its house in order in Osun state to achieve victory at the September 22 governorship election.

On the National Assembly crisis, he said: “Whatever they are doing in the Senate or in government, that is their own problem.

“I have said that nobody can remove Saraki, I don’t know Saraki, I have not met Saraki and I don’t know Godswill Akpabio. The issue of Saraki, I am not interested because I am not a politician.

“Who is that politician that is not corrupt and who is that politician that does not steal money? Saraki is one of the anointed persons in this country. I don’t see Atiku going too far.

“I am not defending Saraki but if Saraki is removed, PDP will sink and if PDP wants to move forward and Saraki having the ticket, PDP will win.”

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had earlier reported that Senate president Bukola Saraki, was quoted to have said to be considering running against President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 general elections.

According to Bloomberg, Saraki said in an interview at his residence in Abuja: "I am consulting and actively considering it. I believe I can make the change.

“The PDP has learnt its lesson from the loss in 2015, and I think unfortunately the APC did not learn from their victory.

A prominent restaurant owner in Zimbabwe is currently being investigated, after forcing his way into a female ward at Masvingo Provincial Hospital at 3am, to have sexual relations with his wife who was admitted at the facility.

The man carried out the act in the presence of ten other patients who were also admitted in the ward, Punch reports.

NAIJ.com learnt that prior to forcing his way into the ward, the man had argued with the hospital nurses in the middle of the night; insisting that they allow him see his wife.

The incident was confirmed by the hospital’s medical director, Amedeus Shamu, who further disclosed that investigations had been opened into the matter.

He said: “It was around 3am that patients who were disturbed by the noise coming from the ecstatic couple reported to the nurses that there was sex in the ward. The nurses summoned a security guard who got the man out of the ward.”

Upon investigation, the wife subsequently informed nurses that her husband had an abusive nature, and that he may have beaten her up if she turned down his sexual overtures.

She reportedly told nurses: “I could not refuse to have sex with him because I could have been beaten in the presence of patients, because he is very violent.”

You won't succeed; any attempt to illegally remove Saraki will be strongly resisted - Lawmaker fires at Oshiomhole

$

- Senator Philip Gyunka says any plot to illegally impeach Senate President Bukola Saraki will be resisted

- He said PDP lawmakers were already keeping vigil to stop any such move

- Gyunka cautioned APC national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, that the issue of removing a Senate president had to do with the Constitution, not unionism

A federal lawmaker, Senator Philip Gyunka, on Wednesday, August 15, in Lafia, said that any plot to illegally impeach the president of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, will be strongly resisted.

Gyunka, representing Nasarawa North, said this at a rally to mark his official declaration to run for the Nasarawa state governorship election, NAN reports.

READ ALSO: Man sneaks into hospital ward, makes love to ailing wife

NAIJ.com gathers that Gyunka, who expressed concern over the role played by the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, in the matter, said the position of the Constitution on who should be president of the Senate was clear.

According to him, unlike majority and minority leadership, which are from majority and minority parties, a lawmaker can be president of the Senate, irrespective of party affiliation.

He said: “Besides that, there are conditions for impeachment should lawmakers be dissatisfied with whoever they chose to lead them.

“The law is clear on this. If two third majorities say they do not want him, he will be removed.

“But for Oshiomhole to keep threatening that Saraki must be impeached when he is not a lawmaker, beats my imagination.

“It is obvious from all his threats that there might be plans to do something unlawful, which we will resist vehemently.

“It beats my imagination that Nigeria, a country that should play the big brother when it comes to respect for the rule of law would be disgracing itself before the international community with this kind of development.”

He pointed out that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers were already keeping vigil to stop any of such moves.

“We are keeping watch on their plans. If they want the Senate president removed, which is impossible, they must have two third majorities.

“They have been attempting and failing. I know they will still make attempts; but they will not succeed, because I know Nigerians will not allow them to make mockery of the nation’s democracy.

“If you hear a lawmaker speaking, he is speaking the minds of thousands of people.

“How then should someone, who was appointed and has neither gone to the rural areas to feel the pulse of the people, nor held town hall meetings be insisting that a man that was duly chosen by his colleagues be removed at all cost?

“Oshiomhole should be educated that this is not unionism. This is an issue that has to do with the Constitution, and we will not allow him to violate it,” he said.

On his ambition to run for the governorship election of the state, Gyunka said it was borne out of passion to bring the state out of the woods.

He said it was disheartening that despite huge human and mineral resources among other potentials, the state had not been able to meet the needs of the people.

He called on Nigerians to take advantage of the forthcoming general elections to vote for people that have their interests at heart.

He urged them to go beyond expressing their grievances, to getting their Permanent Voter Cards (PVC's) before the expiration date, to vote for people that would meet their needs and aspirations.

According to him, all the crises we are facing as a nation today is because we keep voting in the wrong persons.

2019: Women group disowns Obasanjo, vows to work for Buhari’s re-election

$
0

Africa Women Arise For Change Network AWACN) on Wednesday, August 15, took a swipe at the former president Olusegun Obasanjo for his recent verbal attacks on the person and office of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Vanguard reports that the women group wondered why Obasanjo is attacking a government that has succeeded in delivering to Nigerians what he failed to deliver in his eight years as the Commander-in-Chief.

NAIJ.com gathered that while addressing a Freedom Rally for One Nigeria in Lagos, Josephine Okpara, executive director of AWACN, observed that had Obasanjo and his party laid the right foundation for Nigeria, the country would by now be past the stage where the present government has to begin building the nation afresh from the ground up.

READ ALSO: I am under pressure to run for president - Tambuwal, says he'll make his ambition known soon

Okpara, who spoke on behalf of the group, said Obasanjo’s failure to build systems and institutions with preference for being the strong man has done untold damage to the psyche of the nation.

She said the group would mobilize other Nigerian women to join forces together so President Buhari would return in 2019 just to finish what he started.

She said: “We understand that the war on corruption has limited access to slush funds for all Nigerians, which has in turn caused people to tighten their belts and reassess their economic choices.

"The chorus of hard times across the land is therefore understandable in the context of people having to re-learn allocating resources based on their genuine incomes. It is, however, reassuring that the decision that gave rise to this feeling of doom will eventually lead to sunny times ahead.

“The Freedom Rally for One Nigeria is further to remind us all that we should not allow those who once tried to destroy the country to succeed.

"Such people have been trying to use the impact of the anti-corruption war to incite Nigerians against the government and against themselves. We have seen them bellyaching and daily creating the impression that we are not making progress as a country while the reverse is the case.

“Progress is being made under the government of President Buhari and the Freedom Rally for One Nigeria aligns totally with this progress. We are for progress and development under President Buhari.

"It is something we want to continue. But unfortunately, those that have truncated the fortunes of the country want to be allowed to keep sabotaging the country. Most tragically but unsurprisingly, a former president, Dr. Olusegun Obasanjo, is the arrowhead of this misguided group.

"He has used the pedestal of the esteemed office he once occupied as a platform to launch attacks on a government that has succeeded in delivering to Nigerians what he failed to deliver in the eight years he led the country and things his party was not able to deliver in the sixteen years it held Nigeria hostage.

"Had Obasanjo and his party laid the right foundation for Nigeria, the country would by now be past the stage where the present government has to begin building the nation afresh from the ground up.

“The ex-president’s failure to build systems and institutions with preference for being the strong man has done untold damage to the psyche of the nation.

"The present administration is constrained to begin rebuilding critical national institutions while reintroducing systems that should have been in place long before it came into office. We do not want to venture into the parlous state of critical national infrastructure that are only now being built.

"Yet, in those eight and sixteen years, the country was bled dry, verging on the point of death while the enemies of the land pretended to be making giant strides.

"This freedom rally for one Nigeria therefore categorically state that it is time for Dr. Obasanjo to keep quiet and let Nigeria work and succeed for Nigerians. If he is bored and is desirous of catching fun as a drama king he should find a past time that do not entail acting the role of the shadow president.

“We appeal to President Buhari to focus on the task of rescuing Nigeria form the stranglehold of the likes of the ex-president while he remains undeterred by the attacks. We further urge Mr. President to acknowledge that the time for niceties are over as the reality on ground demands that the nation gets to the root of its problems without fail.

"For instance, we know that the violence affecting part of the country is not unconnected with the tendency for certain people with influence to maintain killer squads, which get out of control once their sponsors are out of power.

"It is on record that Obasanjo introduced the culture of organizing, training and arming such squads during his ill-fated third term bid.

“Mr President should henceforth allow the relevant security and anti-corruption agencies dispense with the requirement to unnecessarily treat former Presidents as untouchables so that the anti-terror and anti-corruption wars can go on successfully.

"This is especially so when they have been proven to be strategic to the continued unity of the country as the corrupt people are the ones financing terrorists and separatists that are bent on destroying the country.

"Long live Nigeria. We therefore conclude this address by declaring our support for President Muhammadu Buhari and his able Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo. We urge them to ignore the ex-president who the electorate in the south-west do not know because of his unbridled greed.

"The presidency has our assurance that we will take up protests to every single location associated with Obasanjo if he continues to attack the leadership of the country. “

This is coming after actress Beverly Afaglo revealed she has a way of keeping her husband’s mind off kerewa whenever he comes calling.

“Like we won’t have prostitutes, they don’t get intimate. They just go down because they have to and it happens, a lot of women are out there who don’t get intimate with men because they have to do it for whatever reason.

In marriage, it is very funny, we’ve been taught as women not to ever say no to your husband so there are times you are not in the mood but you just have to do it.

Nigerian politicians are clowns - Presidential aspirant blows hot

$

- Kingsley Moghalu, a presidential aspirant, says politicians in the country are clowns

- He questioned how people who didn’t go to school can be ruling people who are educationally sound; and said it is time for something new

- Moghalu also opined that to fix the Nigerian economy, one must understand intellectually, what causes poverty and what builds the wealth of a nation

Professor Kingsley Moghalu, a presidential aspirant on the platform of the Young Progressive Party, has described Nigerian politicians as clowns who do not have the interest of citizens at heart.

He made the comment on Wednesday, August 15, during a book reading event organised by the management of the Ibadan School of Government and Public Policy in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, Vanguard reports.

READ ALSO: Student group backs Buhari, Osinbajo for second term

NAIJ.com gathers that Moghalu stated that politicians are busy crossing from one party to the other because of their own interests, instead of designing manifestos to impact positively on ordinary Nigerians.

He also condemned the recent invasion of the National Assembly by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).

He said: “Most politicians in Nigeria don’t have respect for the rule of law. The impunity of the DSS to invade the National Assembly is unacceptable. If some of the agencies of the government can’t respect the rule of law, how do you expect the president to respect the rule of law?

“It is time for all of us as citizens of this nation to get involved in politics. Politicians keep on entertaining us with carpet crossing.

“Every week, there is one defection or the other; people still spend time to defend politicians. We need to go to the polling booths in 2019 to vote them out.

“Nigeria’s politics is not based on policies or intellectual understanding of the system but on sentiments, ethnicity and religion. We are either APC or PDP.

“How can people who didn’t go to school be ruling people who are educationally sound? The only reason this is happening is because we have continued to let it happen. It is time for something new, different and bold.

“A leader must be ready to take calculated risks because humans like certainty. We like what we are used to. We know that our politicians are up to no good; but we still try to adapt with the situation.

“That way, we will continue to perpetuate a cycle of poverty because we don’t have leaders who can take the society forward.

“The reason for my coming into politics is because I am just one citizen and I am tired of this mess we are in. You cannot build if you are a divider. We must look beyond ethnic division.

“I am a Nigerian running to be a Nigerian president, and I have a vision for which we can fix this country. We lack leaders with vision who can rise to build a great nation.

“To fix the Nigerian economy, you must understand intellectually, what causes poverty and what builds the wealth of a nation.”

Man regains freedom after spending 2 years in prison for rushing neighbour to the hospital

A ‘good Samaritan’ named Chidiebere Onwumere recently shared a story of how he ended up spending 2 years in prison all because he helped rush an unconscious neighbour to the hospital.

Speaking in a recent interview, Onwumere said he was wrongly imprisoned for causing the death of one Uzochi Chinyere, a neighbour whom he rushed to the hospital, following her drug overd*se in Abia State

“I got home that day, around 6pm, only to see my neighbour lying helpless and I decided to assist her to the hospital with the help of other neighbours. A pastor who resides within the neighbourhood, took us with his car to a nearby hospital called Shiloh hospital, where the doctor asked us to deposit N5000 to conduct a test that would determine exactly what was wrong with her.

For rushing neighbour to hospital, man spends 2 years in prison

I and some other neighbours contributed the money. When the result came out, the doctor told us that she was on substance overd*se and was knocked out by the illegal substance. He assured us that she would be well again.

However, the next morning, Mr Promise, the deceased’s elder brother, arrived the hospital and insisted on taking her away to another hospital against the doctor’s advice. After a few days, he came back to our compound and took me to World Bank police station, Aba, where he handed me over to the police, claiming that I beat his sister to death.

Despite pleas that my hands were clean and that there was a doctor’s report stating that their sister died of substance abuse, Promise insisted and filed a murder charge against me.

I was arraigned on suit no. U/520c/2016 and remanded in prison custody since June 2016. It was one Barrister Jerry Uzosike that God used to vindicate and bring me out of prison,” he told Abia Fact News.

This is coming after a taxi driver was charged to court in Lagos after refusing to pay an ashawo N6000 after a bout of kerewa.

- Ambassador James Barka insists he remains a member of the APC

- He admitted that he was visited that Adamawa PDP members

- The former acting governor said he was in support of President Buhari

Ambassador James Barka, former Acting governor of Adamawa has denied the recent reports of his defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Barka, who is also a serving member of the Presidential Committee on the North East Initiative (PCNI), made this clarification while briefing newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja.

Barka said that he did not defect from the APC and he was not contemplating doing so as he blamed some media organisations and social media for the “Fake News’’ and misinformation.

He said that he remained committed to working under the APC-led administration of President Muhammadu Buhari in his change agenda.

“I am staying in APC because I believe in the transformation agenda of President Buhari and for me to contemplate to leave APC, I must be an insane person.

“Some members of the PDP led by the Adamawa State Chairman paid me a courtesy call to seek my return to my former party, the PDP.

“I categorically told them that I was a bonafide member of the APC and I am not contemplating leaving the APC.

“I have gone across to my followers, sent them text messages and on social media that I am still a member of the APC and as such all my followers should remain.

“The President has done excellent and I cannot see why I should defect to a party that showed so much impunity to me and my followers in 2014.

“I am committed to APC and I will remain in APC,” Barka said.

Barka, however, noted that his decision to remain in the APC was not because he was currently serving as a member of the PCNI.

He said that in 2014, he resigned his appointment as an Ambassador because he was leaving the PDP and so, he was not remaining in the APC for fear of dismissal.

Barka reiterated that he was still a member of the APC because he believes in the change agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari, which has built infrastructure and provided the basic amenities for Nigerians.

He said that the present administration has recorded a lot of dividends of democracy and Nigerians would continue to see more dividends of democracy under the present government
