- A media aide to the Nigerian president, Lauretta Onochie, say she will seek redress in court over a story alleging that she diverted campaign funds in Delta state
- Onochie accuses persons she described as cowards of spreading the false story that she misappropriated campaign funds of the Buhari Support Organisation
- The presidential aide says after making a full account on how the funds were spent, she owes no further explanations to them
A media aide to the Nigerian president, Lauretta Onochie, has dismissed allegations that she diverted funds given to her by the Delta state chapter of the Buhari Support Organisation (BSO) for campaign purposes.
Onochie in a statement on her Facebook page on Sunday, April 7, described the news on the alleged diversion as a fake story being spread by persons she tagged as cowards. She stated that she would head to court over the issue.
She noted that after the general elections she made full account of how the funds were spent in keeping with the BSO guidelines.

“May I state that immediately after the election and in keeping with the BSO guidelines, FULL ACCOUNT was rendered to BSO and Women And Youth PCC which ran the campaign, even though no funds were received and same account was rendered to Dr Kachikwu who was impressed with the way and manner his money was spent,” Onochie said.
“Again, testimonies abound from the LGA Coordinators, ethnic, political, women and Buhari groups who worked with us and who said they had never had it so good with BSO in Delta state.
The presidential aide said after making a full account on how the funds were spent, she owes no further explanations to persons she said were verbally attacking her members of her campaign team over the alleged funds diversion.
Onochie disclosed that because of shortage of funds, someone on her team had to sell prized belongings to support the work they did in Delta state.

She insisted that she had not done anything she was not proud of and challenged those making the allegations to call in any graft agency of their choice.
“I will be seeking redress in a court of competent jurisdiction after consulting with my Solicitors. Not that I don't know who they are, but investigations are on to confirm the names of the cowards who sold the fake story," Onochie said.
“It has become a favourite pastime of unqualified appointment seekers, to attempt to tarnish the image of those with better education, experience, expertise and exposure. I believe in hard work. I cannot be tarnished. And I will not be distracted from the good work I am known for."

In another news, Professor Itse Sagay (SAN), the chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), has said President Muhammadu Buhari should consider paying attention to the issue of restructuring in his second term.
In an interview with The Independent, Sagay said President Buhari concentrated on fighting corruption in his first term in office. He, however, said the president should consider restructuring in his second term because majority of Nigerians are agitating for it.
Sagay said implementing restructuring will make the states self-sustaining without necessarily depending on monthly federal allocation.
