Election 2019: March words with actions during polls - Ex-APC chieftain to INEC, police

- A former chieftain of the APC, Comrade Timi Frank, has called on INEC to deliver on credible polls

- Comrade Frank called on the INEC boss and security agencies to match their words with actions

- Comrade Frank said both INEC boss and the acting IGP have so far appeared to be very professional in the preparations leading to presidential election

Former deputy national publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has called on the chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the acting Inspector General of Police to march their words with actions regarding the Presidential and National Assembly elections on Saturday, February 23.

In a statement made available to journalists on Friday, February 22, Comrade Frank said both INEC boss and the acting IGP so far appeared to be very professional in the preparations leading to the election. but urged them to march their words with actions

According to him, harassment and intimidation of various forms of so many opposition members are ongoing across the country.

He cited Rivers, Kwara and Kaduna as states where the alleged actions are going on.

His words: “Impressive talks and assurances during press conferences by the duo of INEC boss and the IGP can not make the election credible unless they march their words with actions.

“We have observed that the leadership of both institutions may not have intentions to compromise the process but their subordinates across the states should also be thoroughly warned not to dance to the music of the ruling All Progressives Congress at their centers.”

He urged the INEC chairman and the IGP to use the opportunity of the ongoing elections to write their names in gold, adding that what the duo are telling the world should be their actions during the exercise.

While commending both the police boss and INEC leadership for their transparency so far, Comrade Frank urged them not to succumb to any form of pressure likely to come from the ruling party.

He also called on Nigerians to come out enmasse and cast their votes in a peaceful and orderly manner, saying it is another opportunity to make a change.

“What we have right now is a nightmare. Nigerians should come out en mass to make another history and be ready to defend their votes,” Frank stated.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for the immediate and unconditional release of Senator Rafiu Ibrahim and other members of the party in Kwara state.

The party said the federal legislator and his supporters were framed-up, arrested and detained by the police in Kwara state unlawfully.

“This resort to police brutality by the APC is a script by a losing team which seeks to introduce violence and use the police to execute their rigging plots,” PDP spokesman, Kola Ologbodiyan said in a statement sent to Legit.ng on Friday, February 22.
