Connected Development (CODE) has launched a technological mapping tool that provides electoral and response organisations a new channel to monitor electoral incidences ahead of the 2019 general elections.
Legit.ng gathered that it also enable citizens have an easy to use tool to capture and report critical information during the polls.
Named 'Uzabe,' it is a real-time (web-based map) situation technology that would capture election processes happening across the 36 states of Nigeria with about 5,000 observers deployed by CODE nationwide.
The technology was officially launched on Wednesday, February 13 at a press briefing in Abuja.

Speaking at the briefing, the Chief Executive Officer of CODE, Hamzat Lawal, said Uzabe will provide real-time reports on security intelligence that would strengthen mitigation and emergency response during violence and establish early warning systems for vulnerable communities.
He also said CODE will be using Uzabe technology tool to strengthen citizens participation and engagement in the electoral process, while also protecting the Nigerian democracy.
According to him, Uzabe strengthens citizens participation and give situation and iWitness report from all polling units in real-time.
His words: “The result of this launch is that electoral and response organisations have a new channel to monitor electoral incidences; and citizens have an easy to use tool to capture and report critical information during the 2019 general elections.
“Through this platform CODE intends to contribute its quota to peace-building by providing the technology tool to enhance a free, fair, peaceful and credible 2019 general election by increasing transparency and accountability through active citizen participation in the electoral cycle.”
According to Lawal, riding on CODE’s participation in observing electoral processes since 2013 in Kenya, 2015 in Nigeria and 2016 in the USA, the organisation seeks to, again, ensure peaceful electoral process, promote national reconciliation and improve quality of elections in Nigeria using Uzabe technology tools.

Meanwhile, a recent public opinion poll conducted by NOIPolls has revealed that majority of Nigerians are not aware of most registered political parties in the country.
The poll which was released on Tuesday, February 5, also revealed that the two most popular political parties in Nigeria are the All Progressives Congress and Peoples Democratic Party.
The respondents, however, showed some level of awareness on about 26 of the 91 registered political parties with the All Progressive Grand Alliance coming third followed by the Social Democratic Party.
