Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) popularly known as Shiites have taken over streets in Abuja in protest of continued detention of their leader, Sheik Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, for whom they declared they are ready to die.
TVC reports that the protesters on Tuesday, February 5, took over the streets of the central business district of Abuja.
Legit.ng gathers that El-Zakzaky is facing trial for alleged murder, culpable homicide, unlawful assembly and disruption of public peace, among other charges.
The protesters said: “We are ready to die for Elzakzaky. We will not back down until our leader and his wife are released. We are ready to die for El-zazaky.”
Recall that the IMN leader and his wife were first arraigned on May 15, 2018 following their arrest in Zaria, in December 2015.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Femi Falana told a court in Kaduna that the leader of the Islamic Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, was suffering from glaucoma and had completely lost one of his eyes.
The senior lawyer, who is the lead counsel to the IMN leader, said this when the case against El-Zakzaky came up for hearing at the high court on Tuesday, January 22.
Falana made a case for Zeenat, the wife of El-Zakzaky, saying there were bullets yet to be extracted from her system. He said his legal team was concerned about the state of health of El-Zakzaky and his wife.
However, the counsel to the Kaduna state government, Dari Bayero, noted that two defendants in the case were dropped remaining the sect leader and his wife.
In another report by Legit.ng, the Islamic Movement in Nigeria popularly known as Shiite on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, protested the continued detention of the its leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.
Members of the movement went ahead with their protest in Kaduna state despite the ban placed on their activities and all other forms of protests in the state by the state government.

The protesters began the protest around 1:15pm and marched from Poly road to the Kasuwan Bacci round about with placards, chanting "government free Zakzaky" and 'Allahu Akbar".
The Shiite protesters were said to have ended the protest after reaching Kasuwan Bacci round about.
