Emerging reports claimed that the residents of some parts of Zamfara state on Monday afternoon, December 24, staged protest the complaining against insecurity in the state.
According to the reports, the protesters, mainly residents of Tsafe local government area of the state, in the early hours of the day barricaded the Gusau-Zaria highway linking the state to Kaduna, Kano, and Abuja.
An eyewitness disclosed that the protesters destroyed political billboards of President Muhammadu Buhari and the state governor, Abdulaziz Yari.
The protests, which was populated by youth and women later degenerated into a full riot. According to the eyewitness, “The protesters began by blocking the highway and burning tyres, but as we speak, the local government secretariat in Tsafe is on fire.”
It was learnt that they were asking authorities to end the criminal activities in the state.The chairman of Tsafe local government, however imposed a curfew after the protest.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that the police command in Zamfara state said it had deployed another police unit to Magami village in Maradun local government area where bandits killed a number of persons on Saturday, December 22, 2018.
The unit comprises Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorist Unit (CTU) and the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS).
A statement signed by the command’s public relations officer, SP Mohammed Shehu in Gusau on Sunday said, the personnel would complement efforts of the police and other security operatives already on ground.
While condoling families of the deceased who were killed by the bandits, Shehu said the additional team had since arrived the area and had joined in the trail of the attackers.
