Liverpool, Manchester United plagued with 15 injuries ahead of fiery weekend fixture

Liverpool welcome old rivals Manchester United to Anfield on Sunday, December 13, and of concern to both sides will be the number of injured players.

With the first stanza of the season reaching its climax, players from either team have picked up knocks and dents that will limit selection for both Jurgen Klopp and Jose Mourinho.

the Red Devils have the bulk of injuries with about nine players out of Sunday's game.

"Chris Smalling is injured. Victor Lindelof is injured. Matteo Darmian is injured. Anthony Martial is injured. Diogo Dalot is injured," Mourinho told the club's website after their defeat to Valencia.

Defender Luke Shaw is out of action while Marcos Rojo has a low chance of featuring at Anfield.

Scott Mctominay and Alexis Sanchez are also on Unite's treatment table and will not be available this weekend.

On the other hand, Liverpool have six players on their injury list including Joel Matip, who is out for six weeks with a shoulder problem.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is also doubtful for the fixture against the Red Devils after picking up a foot injury.

In addition, Joe Gomez suffered an ankle injury against Burnley in the Premier League and is expected to be out for awhile.

James Milner also joined the injury list after picking up a knock against Napoli in their Champions League victory.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously had reported Liverpool suffered another injury blow after Joel Matip suffered a broken collarbone and has been ruled out of action for six weeks.

According to UK Daily Mail report, the Cameroon international is to undergo surgery following a collision with Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly in the closing moments of the Reds 1-0 on Tuesday, and will now miss the busy festive period.

The centre back, who joins the likes of Dejan Lovren and Joe Gomez on the sidelines, could miss as many as 10 games before returning to action.
