The year 2018 is one year sports loving Nigerians will not forget in a while because of the several activities that occurred.
There were four major tournaments Nigeria partook in but only one of the teams came out victorious with first position.
Nevertheless, one can always reflect on the good and bad memories it brought, as well as the patronage every Nigerian showed for their beloved countrymen and women hoisting the green and white flag.

1. The Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, China
For the first time in the history of the bobsled event at the Winter Olympics, Africa had a representative in PyeongChang, China.
Nigeria were represented in the female category of the sport, who are all based in the United States including - Seun Adigun, Akuoma Omeoga and Ngozi Onwumere.
They were joined by Simi Adeagbo who qualified to fly Nigeria’s flag in the game of Skeleton after she got inspired by Seun, Akuoma and Ngozi’s story.
Though the team did not make a podium finish at the event, but the participants put Nigeria and Africa on the World map of the Winter Games.
2. The Russia 2018 World Cup
Before the tournament, the Super Eagles were the team to watch because of the new crop of players coming into the team.
The whole world were looking out for the three-time African champions to fly past Group D that had Lionel Messi's Argentina, Luka Modric's Croatian and first timers Iceland.
The west African side also had a jersey that caught the attention of not only football fans but fashion lovers too.
Unfortunately, the team narrowly missed out in the group stages where Croatia and Argentina made it through to the next round.

3. The FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in France
Nigerians had another opportunity to support the green and white colours as the U-20 team went for glory in France.
The Falconets progressed through to the quarter finals for the fourth time asking after making it past Germany, China and Haiti in the group stage.
The team crashed out of the tournament after losing to Spain by 2-0 in the quarter finals but a new star was born in the person of Rasheedat Ajibade.
3. 2018 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup
The Nigeria female basketball team did the unbelievable at the FIBA Women's World Cup in Spain.
After losing to Australia in the first match, D'Tigress went on to defeat Turkey, Argentina and Greece before losing to Canada in the quarter-finals.
The team finally finished in 8th position, the highest any African team have attained in the history of the World Cup.

4. AWCON 2018 in Ghana
The Super Falcons had the best year in 2018 after emerging winners of the African Women Cup of Nations in Ghana.
The Falcons had a slow start following their 1-0 loss to South Africa in the first match but bounced back against Zambia and Equatorial Guinea, recording comprehensive wins.
Thomas Dennebry's team avenged their first round loss to the Bayana Bayana in the finals winning 4-2 after penalties.
Nigeria have now won nine AWCON titles since the competition began 11 years ago.
