Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has revealed Zinedine Zidane is not the right man to take over from Jose Mourinho.

However, Scholes is of the opinion that the task awaiting the former World Cup winner with the Red Devils is totally different to the one one of Real Madrid.

Scholes said on BT Sport: “Is Zidane the right man, though?

“He went in to Real Madrid, who had a group of ready-made winners already.”

He continued: “This is a totally different job; he would have to rebuild confidence with a squad that isn't quite performing.

“He went to Real Madrid with so many great players, it was still difficult, but this would be a whole rebuilding job.”

The former England international's intervention comes at the time Mourinho is coming under increasing pressure at United.

Man United were held to a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford in midweek by rival Arsenal, taking their winless run in the Premier League to four games.

United have now dropped to eight position, eight points behind the top four spots and 18 behind leaders Manchester City.

Mourinho's men will be up against Fulham at Old Trafford in a must win match to calm nerves about his future at the club.

The British news media outlet added that despite the previous interest in Zidane, Pochettino is next in line for the job which Scholes would approve of.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has taken a slight dig at Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku following United's gutsy 2-2 draw with Arsenal.

United had to fight twice to earn a point at Old Trafford but Mourinho has taken a swipe at his high earning stars who were left on the bench.
