How much will it cost you to study at the University of Calgary?

The fee system at the University of Calgary in Canada is not that easy to understand. There are many fees one has to pay, and it is hard to figure out which ones are relevant to your situation. One thing is clear: international students should be prepared to pay more than twice as much as Canadians or permanent residents.

That said, you should see for yourself. Here are the UCalgary fees.

Undergraduate fees for international students of the University of Calgary

Probably the most convenient way to figure out how much you will have to pay if you want to study at UCalgary at undergraduate level is to use their online cost estimator (click here to check it out). There, you can select things that apply to you and see how much you will be expected to pay for your education. If you prefer to see them all in one place, here are some fees you should know about:

Tuition:

  • Per 3 Units: $611.28;
  • Co-op/Intern/Off-Campus (4 Months): $479.10;
  • Law (3 units): $1,136.94;
  • IFP (3 units): $612.

General fees (per term), full time:

  • Students' Union General: $32.50;
  • Students' Union Ancillary: $23;
  • U-Pass: $145;
  • Campus Recreation: $35.90;
  • Athletics: $49.29;
  • Donation: $10;
  • Student Services Fee: $225.

General fees (per term), part time:

  • Students' Union General: $14.50;
  • Students' Union Ancillary: $17.25;
  • Campus Recreation: $35.90;
  • Athletics: $49.29;
  • Donation: $7;
  • Student Services Fee: $75.

Summer Term (per intersession):

  • Students' Union General: $7.50 (full-time), $7 (part-time);
  • Students' Union Ancillary: $15.25;
  • U-Pass: $145 (full-time);
  • Campus Recreation: $17.95;
  • Donation: $7;
  • Student Services Fee: $75 (full-time), $37.50 (part-time).

General fees per year (full-time):

  • Student Health Plan: $103;
  • Student Dental Plan: $90.

International undergraduate students are also supposed to pay the base international tuition fee for a 3 unit course of $611.28.

Unfortunately, there is no calculator for graduates, so you will have to bear with us as we go through all the fees associated with graduate studies. Just like on the official website of the University of Calgary, we have divided the fees into several categories and provided short explanations for each. Hopefully, you will be able to understand what fees apply to you. If not, consult the link at the end of the article for more information.

Thesis-based students:

  • Tuition fees (except MBA): $12,695.88;
  • Tuition fees (thesis-based MBA): $25,293.24;
  • Continuing fees: $3,693.48.

Those who have thesis-based degrees (doctoral and master’s) pay the annual tuition fee. Those who have thesis-based master’s programmes (apart from MBA) pay the tuition fee for the first year. After that, they pay continuing fees.

Course-based students:

  • Graduate internship 1.5 units fee (quarter course): $811.32;
  • Graduate 3 units fee (half-course): $1,622.64;
  • Graduate 6 units fee (full course): $3,245.28;
  • Audit fee per 3 units: $811.32.

If you have a course-based master’s programme, you are expected to pay fees per course. The aforementioned fees apply to all such programmes, apart from the ones we will talk about in the next section.

As we have mentioned before, certain programmes have specific fees, and we are going to list them below.

  • Post-baccalaureate Certificate in Fundamental Data Science and Analytics (per 3 units): $4,000;
  • Post-baccalaureate Diploma in Data Science and Analytics (per 3 units): $4,000;
  • Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Built and Landscape Heritage (per 3 units): $3,975;
  • Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Designing Smart and Secure Communities (per 3 units): $4,950;
  • Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Urban Design (per 3 units): $4,950;
  • Post-baccalaureate Certificate in Network Security (per 3 units): $4,000;
  • Post-baccalaureate Certificate in Software Security (per 3 units): $4,000.

Master of Pathologists’ Assistant

  • Annual fee: $17,000;
  • Per 3 units: $1,622.64.

Master of Architecture:

  • Foundation Year (winter and fall): $12,225.60;
  • Annual fee: $16,386.96.

Master of Landscape Architecture:

  • Foundation Year (winter and fall): $12,494.40;
  • Annual fee: $16,747.48.

Faculty of Law:

  • Undergraduate (600 level, 3 units): $3,410.82;
  • Graduate (700+ level, 3 units): $1,622.64.

Graduate Certificate in Natural Resources, Energy and Environmental Law:

  • Annual fee: $714,78;
  • 600 level, per 3 units: $3,410.82.

Post-Master’s Nurse Practitioner Diploma:

  • Annual fee: $714.78;
  • Per 3 units: $1,622.64.

Post-baccalaureate Certificate in Clinical Social Work Practice:

  • Per 3 units: $2,000;
  • Program Fee: $2,000.

Haskayne School of Business

Doctor of Business Administration:

  • Per year for Years 1-3: $30,000;
  • Continuing fee (Year 4 at registration anniversary): $10,000;
  • Continuing fee (Year 5 and onwards at registration anniversary): $5,000.

Executive MBA (per 8 months): $34,500;

Executive MBA (Global Energy) Program Fee: $108,383;

Thesis-based MBA:

  • Annual fee (Years 1 and 2): $25,293.24;
  • Continuing fee: $3,693.48.

Course-based MBA (per 3 units): $2,880.78;

Master of Management (per 3 units): $3,800.

Master of Public Policy:

  • Annual Full-Time fee: $30,739.35;
  • Annual Part-Time fee: $15,369.68;

MPP course fee (per 3 unit course for students not in MPP program): $2,424.02.

MSc in Sustainable Energy Development SEDV (per 3 unit course): $2,785.

EdD (Distance Delivery):

  • Annual fee (years 1 - 4): $14,540.55;
  • Continuing fee (from Year 5 onward at registration anniversary): $5,233.81.
  • Education Certificate (Distance Delivery) cont. fee from Year 2 onward: $1,212;
  • Education Diploma (Distance Delivery) cont. fee from Year 3 onward: $1,212;
  • Master of Education (Distance Delivery) cont. fee from Year 4 onward: $1,212.

You thought we were done with the fees at the University of Calgary, but no, there are still some general fees left that all students (international and otherwise) need to pay.

General fees per term:

  • U-Pass: $145 (only for full-time students);
  • Campus Recreation: $35.90;
  • Athletics: $24.65;
  • Student Services Fee: $150 (full-time), $50 (part-time).

Annual general fees:

  • Graduate Students Association: $170.65 (full-time), $141.20 (part-time);
  • Group Insurance: $11 (full-time);
  • Health Insurance: $330.58 (full-time);
  • Dental Insurance: $270.09 (full-time);
  • Graduate Bursary Donation: $10.

International graduate students are also supposed to pay the base international tuition fee for a 3 unit course of $811.32.
