- Mourinho has dismissed claims Man United need a miracle to finish in top four

- The Portuguese manager believes United can finish in fourth position by new year

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has denied claims he said United need “almost a miracle” to finish in the Premier League top-four.

The Portuguese boss said he will finish in top six and overtake Everton if they can only stop throwing away points to achieve their minimum target of fourth.

The Reds Devils have remain in seventh position, eight points off the pace to fourth-placed Arsenal, who they will be welcoming in midweek at Old Trafford.

United have taken just two points from a possible nine and Mourinho has acknowledged that the margin for errors is dwindling.

“I don't know if I say or if I didn't [we need almost a miracle] but if I used that word it is not what I feel at all,” the United manager said.

“We are like eight points from fourth, something like that, I don't think we need a miracle at all. We need a good run of results, not waste points we shouldn’t waste.

“Last week before the Crystal Palace game I told my hopes and targets were end of December to be in that position [top four]. The target changed but in the sense let's try to close the distance as best we can and be very close to these positions.

“I think it is far from a miracle, we just need to not be so unlucky with problems that we have, we need some players to perform better than they are, we need to perform better as a team but far from a miracle.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Manchester United committed a huge blunder after posting a message from a fan that was furiously directed at Jose Mourinho on their website.

The explicit tweet which read "Mourinho can f*** off out of my club" was mistakenly displayed on the site while the club were updating their live blog during United's 2-2 draw with Southampton.
