Ahead of 2019 general election, NULGE has warned governors it would mobilise its members against them if they continue interfering with the process for actualising local government autonomy in the country.
Ibrahim Khaleel, national president of NULGE, who addressed a pre-40th anniversary press conference said the union was worried about the continued delay in the passage of the bill.

"We are accusing the governors of frustrating the process by instigating the delays. We are going to explore all avenues to the get the bill passed into law. We believe we have the capacity, the strength and the grassroot population to change a lot of things in the 2019 elections.
“Our members and well-meaning Nigerians will be mobilised to vote them out in the 2019 elections," he said.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that the local government employees union called for the annulment of the State Independent Electoral Commission and state local government joint account over what the union described as unfettered manipulations of the systems by the state governors.

The national president of NULGE, Ibrahim Khalil, who spoke at the 40 years anniversary of the union, also accused governors of emasculating and rendering the local government system incapacitated.
