APC harassing opposition - Melaye's campaign team alleges

- Senator Dino Melaye campaign team says the billboards of members of the opposition are being vandalised by agents of the APC

- Chief Shola Ojo, the director general of the Dino Melaye senatorial campaign organisation, calls for local government authorities to fish out the persons responsible for vandalising bill boards in the state

- The state government denies that Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello ever orders the destruction of bill boards belonging to members of the opposition

The campaign team of Senator Dino Melaye has alleged that members of the opposition in Kogi state were being harassed by All Progressives Congress (APC) and agents of Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello.

Chief Shola Ojo, the director general of the Dino Melaye senatorial campaign organisation, made the allegations during the inaugural meeting of the team recently, The Tribune reports.

The campaign team alleged that Dino Melaye’s campaign billboards were being destroyed on the orders of local government caretaker administrators in several locations of the state.

Ojo called on the local government authorities administrators to launch a full investigation for the purpose of identifying those behind the destruction of billboards.

However, the state government has denied that Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello ever ordered the destruction of Melaye’s billboards.

It is preposterous to lay such allegations against the state government. Governor Yahaya Bello is widely lauded as a governor keen on security and who has done so much to secure Kogi state," the chief press secretary (CPS) to the governor, Petra Onyegbule, said.

“He cannot encourage any act of hooliganism or gangsterism. Cases of vandalism should be reported to the police and not be made into issues for petty politics.

In another report, Senator Dino Melaye on Wednesday, November 28, accused the state government of illegally withdrawing about $500 million.

Meyale made this accusation during a plenary. In his allegation, the senator claimed that the said fund was without the approval of the state House of Assembly.

The Senate, on its part, presided over by its president, Bukola Saraki, resolved to set up an ad-hoc committee to carry out a thorough investigation into Melaye's claims.
