A former governor of Taraba state, Reverend Jolly Nyame, has had his sentence for misappropriating the sum of N1.64bn reduced from 14 to 12 years by the Court of Appeal.

Nyame was also fined the sum of N495m by the court in a judgement delivered on Friday, November 16, Channels TV reports.

The ruling followed a decision earlier in 2018 by the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Gudu, Abuja, which sentenced Jolly Nyame to 14 years imprisonment after being convicted of misappropriating N1.64bn from the Taraba state treasury when he served as governor.

Meanwhile, it was a mild reprieve for jailed former Nigerian governor, Joshua Dariye of Plateau state, as a Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, on Friday, November 16, reduced his 14-year term of imprisonment to 10.

Premium Times reports that the conviction of Dariye by a high court was right but that the former governor should have been jailed for 10 years.

On June 12, the 14-year prison term was slammed on Dariye, a serving senator, by the high court of the Federal Capital Territory, Gudu, Abuja, presided by Justice Adebukola Banjoko.
