It is now 24 years since Chelsea suffered a home defeat to Everton in a Premier League showdown at Stamford Bridge.

The encounter on November 26, 1994 which had about 28,115 fans in attendance saw Everton boss Joe Royle claim an important win against the home side in his second game in charge.

The only goal of the game was a header by Paul Rideout from Anders Limpar’s pinpoint cross.

Interestingly, the plot of the goal actually took place in the coach during Everton’s trip to west London, from their base in Merseyside.

Reacting years after Everton have failed to claim another win at Chelsea, Limpar, who got the assist stressed that the Toffees were lucky to have Rideout in their squad.

“I talked to Paul on the way down and we agreed that when he saw me with the ball he would hold his position and I would find him.

“Fortunately that’s how it worked out. I got a bit of praise for the cross but it was quite easy really because Paul did so well," Limpar was quoted as say by ECHO.

Going into the game, Super Eagles forward Amokachi was dropped to the bench as Limpar looked lively on the right, Hinchcliffe was very dangerous with his crosses and corner-kicks while the pair of Rideout and Ferguson were spot on as goal scorers.

Parkinson showed improvement in his game and was unlucky that his header did not count on the day.

Also, Ferguson was unlucky not to score the goals he deserves, but his cross-field ball to Ablett was superb in the course of the game.

At the end of the encounter Everton held on to claim the important win.

Indeed, it was a landmark performance from Everton since the arrival of Royle, who also went on to steer the Toffees away from relegation and were crowned FA Cup champions at Wembley.

However, in recent years Everton have failed to win at Stamford Bridge, with a draw likely to be their best result if they don't lose at the end of the game.
