Speaking on how he was going to solve the challenge of Boko Haram terrorism, he said: “I happen to know how Boko Haram came into being. They were offshoots of political thuggery.

"Politicians used those boys in Boko Haram to win elections and then abandoned them and then there were no jobs for them. It was the same thing with the Niger Delta. In 1998, I saw it myself and I warned people.

“It’s going to be a multifaceted approach. It will involve negotiations. It will involve military action.

The former vice president also criticised the President Buhari-led government’s anti-corruption strategy, saying that, "You can’t deploy only punitive measures to fight corruption. One way of trying to reduce corruption to the barest minimum is also to introduce e-governance. If you are applying for a permit, if you are applying for a passport, why not apply online? Why can’t we also employ preventive measures to stop corruption?

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, on Thursday, November 15, alleged that President Muhammadu Buhari is delaying unemployment data because of 2019 general elections.

The statement had read: “We notes with dismay the testimony of the statistician general of the federation, Yemi Kale, that the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) is unable to release the annual unemployment report that it is mandated by law to produce, because the Buhari administration has not provided the NBS with the funds it needs to perform this essential service.
