Former Kano state governor, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso has threatened to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) barely a week after losing the presidential ticket of the party.

The reasons for his threat was said to have been based on the primaries for various elective offices in Kano which were allegedly won by his chosen aspirants

Daily Trust reports that he threatened that he would leave the party if the leadership of the party removed any member of the Kwankwasiyya movement from the list of its aspirants.

The former governor was said to have given this warning during a meeting held at Legacy House, Abuja.

According to the news outlet, the meeting which commenced at 3pm and ended around 5pm, has many PDP stakeholders including Bello Hayatu Gwarzo and Ambassador Aminu Wali among others.

Quoting a source, the news outlet reports that the meeting was organised to review the list of aspirants from Kano state.

“Kwankwaso told the gathering that any move to remove any member of Kwankwasiyya from the aspirants list will lead to his defection from PDP.

“However, the Doguwa-led faction also threatened to dump the party if the leadership failed to review the list of aspirants," the source said.

Consequently, it was reported that the meeting ended in a deadlock as "neither Kwankwaso nor Doguwa faction agreed to accept the terms offered by the leadership of the party,” the source said.

It was reported that the leadership of the party resolved that the national and state assemblies slots be shared 50-50 between the Kwankwaso and Doguwa factions of the party.
