APC primary: Ogun police command denies being briefed about gun shooting

The police command in Ogun state has debunked claims of gun shooting at the venue of a meeting on Monday, October 1, between All Progressives Congress (APC) electoral committee panel and governorship aspirants in the state. The committee was led by Muhammad Indabawa.

The Punch reports that the governorship aspirants are: Abdulkabir Adekunle Akinlade of Ogun West, Senator Adegbenga Kaka of Ogun East, Otunba Bimbo Ashiru of Ogun East.

Other contenders are: Prince Dapo Abiodun of Ogun East, Jimi Lawal of Ogun East and Abayomi Hunye of Ogun West.

NAIJ.com gathers that suspected thugs stormed the venue of the meeting held at Ibara Government Residential Area (GRA), chasing journalists and political leaders present at the meeting away.

It also notes that the alleged shooting which started around 10.40pm created a terrible scene of confusion, bringing the meeting to a sudden halt as the members of the committee flew for their lives.

The thugs were said to be working for the two leading contenders in the party.

But in a statement, the state police public relations officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, expressed that the command was not briefed about the incidents .

He said: “We are not aware of any shootout at any political meeting, no one has reported any shooting incident to us.”

The governorship primary election which has been scheduled to hold in the 236 wards of the state has been met with postponement due to logistic issues.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that the governorship primary election of the APC planned for Ogun state ahead of 2019, was on Sunday, September 30, 2018, postponed by the state chapter.

The statement revealing the new development was issued by the state publicity secretary of the party, Chief Wole Elegbede, who earlier told members of his party to disregard the rumour that the primary election would no longer hold.
