Two Nigerian Air Force jets collided a few minutes ago while conducting a routine air display over Abuja.
The crash occurred around the Katampe area in the Nigerian capital as they prepare for Nigeria's 58th independence anniversary celebration.
No lives were lost as the pilots were ejected using the parachutes.

The Nigerian Air Force spokesman, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, in a short statement sent to journalists, confirmed the crash.
“I wish confirm an air incident involving 2 Nigerian Air Force aircraft taking part in the rehearsals for the 58th Independence Day Celebrations. Details will be communicated later,” he said.
UPDATE
One of the pilots involved in the crash has been reported dead by the Nigerian Air Force.
Air Commodore Daramola confirmed the sad news in a short statement which read: “It is with a heavy heart that I regretfully announce that one of the pilots who successfully ejected from one of the F-7Ni aircraft that crashed earlier today has passed on. May his soul RIP. Additional details on the incident will be communicated later.”

NAIJ.com had earlier reported that as part of the 58th Independence Day celebration, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has started aerial display in Abuja.
NAF called on Abuja residents not to panic as jets will be flying low. It said the aerial display will continue till October 2.
NAF clarification came after some news media (not NAIJ.com) had earlier reported that fighter jets caused a scare at the National Assembly forcing staff at the complex to flee.
