The National Rescue Movement, one of the political parties participating in the September 22 gubernatorial election in Osun state, has written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the exclusion of its candidate, Jumoke Lawoyin, from the list approved by the commission.
The party gave the commission 24 hours to rectify the situation or it would seek redress in court, Punch reports.

NAIJ.com gathers that the letter, signed by its lawyer, Kayode Ajulo, was entitled: ‘Unlawful exclusion of Mrs Jumoke Lawoyin, governorship candidate of NRM from the approved list of governorship candidates in the Osun State governorship election.’
Ajulo stated: “We are solicitors to NRM, hereinafter referred to as ‘our client’.
“Our client is a recognised and duly registered political party under the relevant laws in Nigeria with a mandate to attain political power through democratic and constitutional means for the purpose of creating socio-economic well-being of the citizens.
“Our client briefed us that by a notice dated July 12, 2018, your office was informed of the conduct of our client’s primaries, sequel to which your representatives, led by Mr Asaolu Adeniyi Ishola, were sent to observe and monitor the said primary, which held at Brymor Hotel, Agunbelewo, Osogbo and in which Mrs Jumoke Lawoyin was confirmed and affirmed as our client’s candidate for the Osun State governorship election scheduled to hold on September 22, 2018.”
The party added: “It is trite law that every duly registered political party and candidate enjoys the constitutional right to vote and be voted for.”

Recall that NAIJ.com previously reported that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) published the names of 48 political parties that are contesting for the Osun governorship election, with the names of their governorship candidates and deputies.
While speaking at the presentation of soft copies of voters’ register to the participating political parties, the state resident electoral commissioner, Segun Agbaje, said that the exercise was in line with the Electoral Act of Nigeria and the law of the commission.
