- The ICPC has ended its investigation into the use of a forged NYSC exemption certificate by former finance minister, Kemi Adeosun

- The commission said it stepped down the investigation so as not to duplicate the efforts of another agency

- The other agency is thought to be the NYSC, which disclosed in July 2018, that it had begun its own investigations into the matter

The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) says it has halted investigations into the use of a forged National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) exemption certificate by Mrs Kemi Adeosun, the former minister of finance.

The disclosure was made by the ICPC’s spokesperson, Mrs Rasheedat Okoduwa, in a text message sent to Punch on Monday, September 17.

NAIJ.com gathers that the text message read: “We stepped down the investigation into the matter so as not to duplicate the efforts of another agency which had taken it up.”

The particular agency being referred to was, however, not stated in the text message.

The NYSC had in July 2018, however, said it “had begun its own investigations to unravel the source of the purported Exemption Certificate” obtained by Adeosun.

The scheme has still not made public the result of its investigation; but it’s director of press and public relations, Mrs Adenike Adeyemi, on Monday, said the report had been submitted to the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development for any further action.

She said: “The report has been submitted to the Ministry of Youths and Sports Development and you can direct all your questions to them.”

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that the leadership of the National Union of Nigerian Students (NUNS) called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to arrest Mrs Kemi Adeosun, over her forged National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) exemption certificate.

NUNS president, Salahudeen A. Lukman, in a statement sent to journalists on Sunday, September 16, also called for the arrest of the director general of the NYSC under whom the forged certificate was issued.
