- Scores of maidens made their way to Nongoma where they took part in the annual Reed Dance
- Among those in attendance were two grandma maidens, 55-year-old Ngenzile and 66-year-old Ngipheni
- Both have not regretted being virgins and said they pride themselves in their decisions to remain virgins
At 55-year-old, Ngenzile Mngadi, from Durban said she's happy to still be a virgin. The bride-to-be, from Mkhizwana near Pinetown, was just one of the beautiful maidens who made their way to the Enyokeni Royal Palace in Nongoma.
According to a report by Daily Sun, Ngenzile said she always wanted to remain a virgin, until her wedding night. The maiden has, for the last three decades, been part of the reed dance.
Ngenzile said she has not for one day regretted keeping her virginity, in fact, she prides herself in it: "In our culture, it is not good to have intercourse before marriage."

Ngenzile and her fiance, who she met 25 years ago, have been having ukusoma, a practice that ensures she does not lose her virginity.
Why did they wait so long to get married? Well, the maiden was waiting for her fiance to save enough money to pay bride price for her. “I thank him for respecting my choice to keep my virginity.”
Another elderly virgin, 66-year-old Ngipheni, from a village outside Pietermaritzburg, said she's proud of herself for being a grandma and a virgin.
NAIJ.com gathered that she decided she wanted to be a virgin until marriage when she was a teenager already.

Despite her age, and being teased for still being a virgin, Ngipheni said she doesn't regret it at all.
She looked on the bright side and said: “Look at the number of people who get pregnant before marriage and have Aids. Being a virgin is the sweetest way of being sure I’m safe.”
