Russia 2018 silver-winning coach Zlatko Dalic has urged Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri to feature Mateo Kovacic regularly to get the best out of the midfielder.

The 24-year-old joined the Blues on a season long loan deal from Real Madrid this summer in a deal that saw Thibaut Courtois move in opposite direction.

He has an option to make his deal permanent depending on his performance in his first year at the Stamford Bridge.

The former Inter Milan and Dinamo Zagreb star made 21 appearances for the Galacticos last term with no goal to his credit in Zinedine Zidane's last season as the Bernabeu.

He joined the Blues hoping to build on his World Cup performance in Russia but Sarri has a wealth of options in midfield after splashing out £57m to bring in Jorginho from Napoli.

N’Golo Kante has been reinvented as a box-to-box midfielder, while Cesc Fabregas, Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are all desperate for first-team opportunities.

Kovacic has started Chelsea’s last two Premier League games, playing a crucial role in wins over Newcastle and Bournemouth.

And his national manager has warned Sarri to continue giving him minutes in order to develop him as a player.

"He has done well to change clubs,” Dalic told Croatian newspaper Sportske Novosti.

"He can only progress by playing constantly. At Real Madrid, he played now and again, and that was not enough for him. He has enormous potential."

NAIJ.com previously reported that Chelsea have signed Mateo Kovacic from Real Madrid on loan as the new Premier League season kicks-off in the next 24 hours.

The Croatian international will be hoping to feature regularly in Maurizio Sarri's squad as he arrived Stamford Bridge to open a new chapter in his career.

The 24-year-old played five games during Croatia’s run to the World Cup final this summer in Russia.
