Court sentences man to 6 months imprisonment for stealing N5,000

- A 32-year-old man identified as Ahmed Hassan has been sentenced to six months imprisonment

- Hassan was jailed for stealing breaking into a house and stealing N5,000

- He was, however given an option of N30,000 fine

A Kubwa grade 1 area court on Wednesday, August 29, sentenced a 32-year-old man, Ahmed Hassan, to six months in jail for stealing N5,000.

NAN reports that the judge, Malam Abdulwahab Mohammed, however, gave Hassan an option of N30,000 fine and warned him to desist from committing crime.

NAIJ.com gathers that Mohammed convicted and sentenced Hassan following his guilty pleas to the charges of house breaking, mischief and theft.

‎Earlier, the prosecutor, John Okpa had told the court that one Kasimu Mohammed of Life Camp, Abuja reported the matter at Life Camp police station on August 20.

He explained that Hassan broke into the complainant’s house, damaged the window and stole N5,000 on the said date.

Okpa said that when Hassan was arrested, all efforts made to recover the money proved futile. The prosecutor said that the offences committed contravened sections 356, 327 and 288 of the penal code.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that a Jos chief magistrates’ court sentenced a 24-year-old man to six months imprisonment for stealing one bag of rice, valued at N20,000.

The chief magistrate, Jovita Binjin sentenced the convict, Olataju Habinu, after he pleaded guilty to the crime.
