Messi snubbed as Ronaldo, 2 other players nominated for prestigious award

- Ronaldo, Salah, and Luka Modric have been nominated for the UEFA player of the year award

- The winner of this prestigious award will be announced by UEFA on Thursday, August 30

- Portugal international Cristiano Ronaldo is the current holder of the award

Juventus and Portugal international Cristiano Ronaldo has made the final three man shortlist of players that will fight for the 2017/18 UEFA player of the year award.

The former Real Madrid star will face serious competition for the award from Croatia international Luka Modric and Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah.

Mohamed Salah won the golden boot award last season after scoring 32 Premier League goals for Liverpool and also steered the Reds to the Champions League final in Kiev losing to Real Madrid.

Luka Modric helped his nation reach the final of the 2018 World Cup in Russia where he won the Golden ball award. He also won the Champions League title with Los Blancos.

Ronaldo on the other hand also won the Champions League title last season with Real Madrid which was his fifth time.

Meanwhile, UEFA will name the winner of this award on Thursday, August 30.

Earlier, NAIJ.com had reported how UEFA released names of players nominated for the best attacker, midfielder, defender and goalkeeper for last season's Champions League campaign.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Mohamed Salah were nominated by UEFA as the strikers in the 2017-18 Champions League.
