Akpabio was blackmailed to join APC - Lamido

- Lamido claimed Akpabio was shown some files and blackmailed into leaving PDP

- Lamido also claimed Akpabio's welcome into APC shows that the government isn't serious about fighting corruption

Former governor of Jigawa state and presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sule Lamido, alleged that Senator Godswill Akpabio was blackmailed into joining the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Lamido, who made this statement while addressing propose delegates to the national convention of the party, said APC government showed “Senator Akpabio some files and he became afraid” and dumped PDP for APC.

Lamido said: “It is a disgrace for the APC government to give former governor Akpabio the type of reception he was given.

“It shows that the government is not serious about fighting corruption."

Recall that Akpabio announced his defection to APC and resigned his seat as the minority senate leader in a letter dated August 4.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com earlier reported that Senator Gershom Bassey who is the lawmaker Senator representing the Southern Senatorial District of Cross River State has said that Senator Godswill Akpabio remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party ({PDP).

Bassey spoke on Tuesday, August 14 said the defection of Akpabuio to the All Progressives Congress was not done yet since his letter has not been read on the floor of the house.
