- Jose Mourinho has been under heavy pressure after failing to win a trophy last season

Former Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane wants to manage in the Premier League next season and is keeping tabs on Jose Mourinho’s situation at Manchester United, Metro quoting L'Equipe.

The 46-year-old is currently out of work since resigning as manager of Los Blancos in May just five days after winning his third consecutive Champions League trophy.

The French legend also won La Liga with Madrid in 2017, as well as two Club World Cup trophies during his two-and-a-half years as first-team manager at the Bernabeu.

According to the French media outlet L’Equipe, Zidane is already considering his next role and has his sights set on the Premier League.

The report claims that the former Juventus midfielder is especially keen on managing Manchester United.

Mourinho is under immense pressure win the Premier League this season after failing to win a trophy at Old Trafford last campaign.

Mourinho is adamant that last season’s second-placed finish in the Premier League should be considered as one of his biggest achievements, despite finishing 19 points behind Manchester City.

Mourinho, however, has been at odds with United’s hierarchy this summer over their refusal to sign an experienced central defender before the transfer window got shut last Thursday.

United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward was unable to strike a deal for either player Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld and Bayern Munich’s Jerome Boateng who were both wanted by Mourinho.

The Portuguese manager had warned United’s board that the club face a ‘difficult season’ if the squad was not improved.

And Mourinho also disagreed with Woodward over the future of Anthony Martial, with the United manager happy for the French forward to be sold.

Last month, reports claimed that United have shortlisted Zidane as one of the candidates to replace Mourinho if the 55-year-old leaves at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had earlier reported that Anthony Martial was left on the bench in Manchester United's Premier League opener at Old Trafford, with the Red Devils forced into using other options.

United gaffer Jose Mourinho claims he “needed six changes not three” in his side's season opener, with Anthony Martial seeing no game as other options had to take priority.
