Just in: 5 suspects arrested as PDP chieftain is shot dead in Lagos

- Saraki, Dogara, Tambuwal, Kwankwaso, others get 2-week deadline to move to PDP

Five local government chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos state have been reportedly arrested over the death of Borishade Adeniyi, the party's chairman of Apapa local government area.

The arrest was reportedly ordered by the Lagos state commissioner of police, Imohimi Edgal, after reports emerged that Borishade Adeniyi was allegedly shot dead at the venue of a PDP LG chairmen visitation meeting held on Saturday, July 21, at Igbosuku village, Eti-Osa LGA.

Those arrested over the killing include Kehinde Fasasi, PDP chairman, Eti-Osa local government; Rotimi Kujore, PDP chairman, Lagos Island local government; Alhaji Fatai Adele, PDP chairman, Mushin local government; Mr. Ismail Abiola, PDP chairman, Amuwo Odofin local government and Dr. Amos Alabi Fawole, PDP chairman, Surulere local government, The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

The five PDP members have been transferred to SCIID, Panti, for further investigation.

Adeniyi was said to have been killed after violence broke out between contending factions of the party; one faction for the state chairman, Moshood Adegoke Sabadon and the other for the Eti-Osa LG chapter chairman, Engr Kehinde Fasasi.

He was reportedly shot in the leg and died at the First Consultant Hospital Obalende where he was said to have been rushed for treatment.

In another report, Senate president Bukola Saraki and other aggrieved members of the Reformed All Progressives Congress faction of the ruling party have been given a two-week deadline to decide on their defection to the opposition PDP.

The Nation reports on Sunday, July 22 that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has given Saraki, and House of Representatives Speaker Yakubu Dogara among others a two-week deadline to make up their minds.

Also getting the deadline are governors Aminu Waziri Tambuwal (Sokoto); Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara) and Samuel Ortom (Benue). Ex-governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, many senators and members of the House of Representatives.
