Retired Lt Gen Abdulrahman Dambazau, Nigeria’s interior minister, on Friday, July 13, said the federal government was committed to beefing up security in areas affected by security challenges in the country.

Danbazau also vowed that the government would punish the perpetrators.

NAIJ.com reports that gunmen recently attacked Gandi and Tabanni villages in Rabah local government area of Sokoto state, killing 39 people, injuring and displacing many others.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Dambazau gave the assurance in Sokoto when he led a delegation on a condolence visit to Governor Aminu Tambuwal.

The report quoted him as saying that President Muhammadu Buhari was worried over the incident and promised go after the perpetrators.

According to him, Buhari had pledged to live up to the expectation of protecting the lives and property of the people by beefing up security in the affected areas.

“Measures to track the perpetrators have been put in place, and they will surely face the wrath of the law,” Dambazau said.

While thanking Danbazau for the visit, Tambuwal said that the incident displaced about 10, 000 people currently camped in four different places.

The report said Dambazau was accompanied by the comptroller-general of Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Muhammad Babandede, among others.

NAIJ.com earlier reported that some unknown gunmen attacked villages around Gandi in Rabah local government of Sokoto state killing an unspecified number of people and razing down houses and other properties.

The reported quoted the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) as stating that residents, who survived the attacks are currently displaced.
