Sweden captain Andreas Granqvist gave up the chance to be with his wife Sofie when she gave birth to their second child on Thursday.

The skipper's spouse delivered baby Mika last night, as the 33-year-old stays with his country national team for their Russia 2018 quarterfinal clash against England this weekend.

However, Sofie was said to have ordered her hubby to concentrate on their encounter with the Three Lions.

Just last week she said: "I’m absolutely not letting him come home, I’m completely fine with my friends and family there and what could be more important than the World Cup right now?

After receiving the news of his new born child, Granqvist took to Instagram to show off the new arrival saying: "So happy and proud of my wife.

Although, he was said to have been given the permission to leave by his coach Gareth Southgate before he left the camp.

Granqvist has been instrumental to his country's success so far in Russia with his two crucial penalties playing key part in their progress.

Meanwhile, a fan of the player had to set up a crowdfunding page to pay for flowers to be sent to Sofie in appreciation of the player's commitment to the team.

Over £4,200 was donated so Sofie decided to give the cash to charity "everyone has the right to have a Christmas tree" - a organisation that takes care of homeless people during Christmas.

Meanwhile Sweden were preparing to take on Gareth Southgate's men as they trained at the Samara Arena on Friday morning.

It is the first time in 12 years since England have reached the last eight of the competition.

The winners will be rewarded with a tie against Croatia or hosts Russia.
