Manchester United’s Portuguese boss, Jose Mourinho is plotting a switch for £44m-rated Croatia midfielder star, Mateo Kovacic to the Premier League from La Liga, suggest reports.

The Real Madrid midfielder recently hinted his desire for a move away from the Los Blancos, declaring that he was unsatisfied with frequent bench role at the Santiago Bernabeu outfit.

The 24-year-old is presently at the ongoing global football fiesta in Russia with Croatia’s Blazers and was on top of his game in their 3-0 pumping of Argentina.

And according to UK Sun report, citing sources at Spain’s news channel, Cadena Cope via 101 Great Goals, the Red Devils’ boss has penned the former Inter Milan player as a key target during the summer transfer.

However, the Old Trafford side will face stiff competition from the duo of Juventus and Roma, who are equally eyeing the highly-improved Kovacic in the summer.

The report further revealed that the Croatian international, who is a three-time Champions League winner with the Los Blancos, is still under contract with the Santiago Bernabeu side until 2021.

However, a figure in the neighbourhood of £44 million would be good enough for any prospective suitor to sign Kovacic from the Galaticos.

During the last campaign, Kovacic featured in 36 matches in all competitions, but will be looking for a move away this summer transfer.

Recently, in an interview with Spain’s respectable news outlet, Marca, Kovacic said: "I know that it's difficult to be a starter at Real Madrid, especially when I arrived at a really young age.

"I understand the situation, but because of that I believe the best thing for me would be to go to another club where I'd have the opportunity to play regularly as a starter.

"I think I can have this opportunity and it's one I want right now."

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously had reported that Mateo Kovacic has disclosed that he will be seeking a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer.

According to the UK Sun report, citing sources at Spain’s newspaper, Marca, the 24-year used the news channel to reveal his intentions ahead of the summer transfer season.
