Following the scandal in Igbajo Polytechnic, Osun state, the embattled rector of the institution, Akinola Olaolu was arrested and detained at the office of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences commission.
Punch reports that the spokesperson for the ICPC, Rasheedat Okoduwa who confirmed the arrest said Olaolu was arrested on Friday, June 22, by the agency for allegedly forging his certificates.
The University of Lagos, Akoka recently explained that it did not have any record which it could prove that the embattled rector was its former student.

He claimed to have a PhD in Economics from the University of Ibadan but more than eight months after becoming a rector, he was reported to have refused to produce his purported his certificate.
Okoduwa said: “The Rector of Igbajo Polytechnic and former acting deputy vice chancellor, Oduduwa University, Olaolu Akinola Olugbenga, has been arrested by the ICPC for alleged forgery of a doctorate (PhD) certificate.

“Olugbenga, who is currently being detained at the Ibadan, Oyo state office of the commission, is undergoing interrogation after preliminary investigations carried out by operatives acting on a petition, confirmed that the suspect was actually working with a fake PhD certificate purportedly from the University of Ibadan.
“However, during interrogation he insisted in his statement that the certificate was genuine. The suspect’s action violates Section 465 of the Criminal Code and Section 25 of the Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Act 2000 respectively.”
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had reported that the University of Lagos, Akoka said it did not have any record which it could prove that the embattled rector of Igbajo, Akinola Olaolu was its former student.
The principal assistant registrar, communications unit of the university Taiwo Oloyede said the embattled rector did not obtain a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics from the institution.
Also, professor Chibuzo Nwoke, the vice-chancellor of Oduduwa University, Ipetumodu, Ile Ife, Osun state, where the rector worked in 2012, said Olaolu’s credentials were fraudulent.
